Is there a good deal on liquor in mexico or cayman .I know in St martin there were great deals on rum and vodka.

bump - would love to get some experiences from past cruisers.

thx

I haven't really found the liquor prices to be that great a bargin on any of the islands in the caribbean or Mexico. I will say that I usually buy a bottle to Tequlia in Mexico and some rum in the caribbean but to me it is way to much of a hassel to buy a bottle of Crown Royal for 16.00 that I could by in Nebraska for 20.00. For 4.00 it's not worth it to me to worry about packing it, carrying it, etc. I don't buy much liquor so there may be better prices on some things but I wouldn't expect half price or anything close.

We found a good deal in Cozumel on Kaluah coffee liquer. It was about 5 dollars cheaper than the ship and about $15 cheaper than NY prices.

We found a good deal in Cozumel on Kaluah coffee liquor. It was about 5 dollars cheaper than the ship and about $15 cheaper than NY prices. We also bought Tequilla on the ship. Each day they had a liquor on special and the price was comparable to Cozumel. We didn't shop for liquor on Grand Cayman. Everything seemed to be more expensive there.

The specials on the ship were pretty good, with a different liquor each night. We bought a variety of tequila in Cozumel and mostly got good deals. Tortuga rum is only produced in the Caymans so we bought several bottles there. Tortuga Gold is a really good, aged rum isf you are into sipping rums rather than just mixers.

This sounds like I'm a lush, but some were gifts, and some were planned to stock our bar for a long time.

My FIL drinks fine scotch and since I don't we did not buy it ofr him when in St. Maarten last year, aparently it was a fantastic deal. So I figured this year we would get him some for christmas while on the western. I know they had some in the ship's store for a fairly good price ( I find out the price was good after we got home)it was not as low at St. M but still better than here. Should I look in Mexico or just buy it on the ship for him?

Got a good price on some Kahlua in Cozumel. Was about 1/2 of what I'd pay at home. Got it at a little store in the Mall right where the ship docks.

We didn't even look at liquor stores in Grand Cayman. I did take the price list from the ship with us in Mexico to compare. However, we found that what we buy (Dramui) was cheaper on the ship than in Mexico.

When talking to the girl behind the counter in UPBEAT (liquor store onboard) she said that on the western itinerary, you are only allowed 1 liter per person (not children) because according to her, you cannot purchase liquor in Grand Cayman, because the stores in Grand Cayman will only "deliver" to ships, and Disney won't accept deliveries. Hence the one liter rule.

Now according to an earlier post, it seems that someone did purchase liquor there.

I do have a price list from the cruise ship if anyone wants to ask a question on price before they leave.

We did however buy 4 bottle of Drambui as it was still cheaper if we had to pay the 10% duty. (which we didn't) Just carried it off in our carryon bag.

Are you aloud to take the liquor back on the ship or do they hold it till the end of the cruise.I know if you buy it on the ship i think they bring it to your room the night before you deport

The prices in Grand Cayman were outragous, I also heard taht they would not let you tak eanything back to the ship from here (A Grand Cayman issue), whereas all other ports we had no problem taking back liqour.
In fact on the Western we saved a bunch of money in that in Key west we stopped and bought beer, so that we could have our own supply and a cheaper rate than the ships.

MCazer- what was the ship's price for Drambui and scotch? thanks Ann
