Liquid diet??

If you go on a liquid diet (which doesn't necessarily imply liquids but rather soft foods such as soups, jello, mashed potatos, applesauce, etc) is that a way to lose a little bit of weight quickly? I don't mean a ton of weight obviously but slimming by dropping just a few pounds. I heard that if you only eat soft foods like that then you'll drop a few pounds quickly. Does anyone know of it's true? I don't want to bother doing that if it isn't going to be successful. Thanks.

I'm not one to judgw a diet...whatever works for you is great. But, I would think a high carb diet wouldn't work very well.

I had colon cancer as a teenager.
It runs in my family on both sides and several family members died from it.
Both factors make screening for polyps a frequent thing even though i am just in my twenties.
Since i have been an adult, generally they have always found at least one polyp every time I have a colonoscopy, but generally they have been benign and the two that were not, had not spread yet so removing the polyp removed the problem (for the time being).
Not my favorite subject to talk about but...I've been lucky as an adult.

Just popping in to say that any short-term diet where you restrict your caloric intake more than usual will result in you gaining weight when you go back to your normal eating habits.

So the end result tends to be you end up just as 'fat' or 'fatter' than when you started. Which is why 'dieting' doesn't work.

So, uh, good luck with that. :)

I just realized who you are. After seeing your past posts, I really hope you get help with your body image issues. Truly.

If it's final results you're concerned about, I have some thoughts to share;
Wouldn't you rather have a long-term sustainable result than a short-term once? A healthy diet may take longer, but the results will last longer and your body will actually be better off. As a cancer survivor, isn't that an appealing outcome?

Plenty of lean protein, good fats (olive oil, coconut oil) veggies as much as you can eat, eggs, fruit, and all the water you can drink will go a long way. Breads, white potatoes, sugars, and alcohol may be delicious, but ultimately detrimental to overall health.

I have done Herbal life with success. It kept me full and I lost weight. If you mix the shake into a slushie, it is much better. I also added jello flavors (orange jello with vanilla shake).

Ok popping in to add this since people are finding mashed potatos so funny, I didn't mean I was going to just eat mashed potatoes. Lol what I heard was that if you only have liquids and soft foods like jello, mashed potato, even pudding that it made you lose weight. I know it sounds weird because those aren't necessarily good for you, but the idea was that you would lose weight because you weren't ingesting solid food. And as I said, I did not know whether or not this was true, which is why I asked if it was true.

OP, I understand the need/want to diet but I am wondering how much you are hoping to lose and if you are planning on exercise and dieting to keep the weight off. Sometimes, we have unrealistic ideas of what our bodies look like or what they SHOULD look like. Not saying this is your case but throwing it out there. In my 20's I was very much concerned with being thin and not so concerned about being healthy. As I age, have had 7 children, and now experiencing perimenopause I really really wish I had been more consumed with being healthy as opposed to thin.

I have not tried a liquid diet, but I did find once I hit that wonderful age of 35 that I needed to walk, limit by sugar intake and eat more protein to maintain what I felt was an acceptable weight. Binge dieting is not a good idea, you won't see the harmful affects for a few years since you are 20 but you will later. It really is best to maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat correctly to maintain a healthy weight.

I don't eat a lot to begin with and what I do eat is always healthy, but I just always feel there is room for improvement and just losing maybe one or two more inches around the waist now that we are soon to be getting into the warmer months when swimsuit season will be coming. I thought it was possible for a liquid diet or maybe doing slimfast could just sort of be a way to polish up. Dr said I do not need to lose any weight, BUT he is not the one walking around in my body either. And he didn't say I shouldnt lose weight, he just said I didn't need to. There's a difference.
I think I'm being healthy because I don't do anything stupid like not eat at all or purge or anything. I just work out at the gym and jog and limit my food intake and make sure I eat healthy foods. And those are good things.

If you want to lose inches then you need exercise NOT diet.

Eactly. OP, I would go to the gym and see if there is a trainer there, explain to him where you want to lose the inches and get a target training plan.

That will help you much more than dieting. And again, if you end up doing that, you will need a higher protein diet.

Honestly, that's you reading into what your doctor said. And you're right, he's not walking around in your body. From what little you have posted here, you seem to be *very* obsessed with what is on the outside - to the point that your stepson is/was modelling mostly to impress *you*.

I'd bet that if your doctor knew how much you think about your physical appearance he *would* tell you its an unhealthy obsession. My guess is that you want to look a certain way that is not physically possible for you due to the way you are made. Not everyone can (or should!) have completely flat stomaches, a beautiful waistline, and a butt you can bounce a quarter off of. Or whatever your ideal is.

What you are doing wouldn't be unhealthy if you weren't coming to message board to ask about a liquid diet (and other fad diets) to lose a couple of inches for bikini season.

You're using your doctor's choice of words to validate your desire to lose weight.

And I'll say it again, unless you're a cliche trophy wife, your husband will love you just the way you are. Take up a hobby like knitting, crocheting, or photography - find something you enjoy and are good at. It'll help you stop measuring your self-worth by your dress size or how good you look in a bikini.

OP, also try hula- hooping and or belly dancing, it will firm the middle up and you will lose inches :beach:

Well...I would like to try photography. I enjoy scrapbooking our vacations and scrapbooking my stepsons track meets and other activities. It would be nice to learn how to take better pictures and be really good at it...I could make better scrapbooks if I did that.

Btw stepson is temporarily not modeling, I called his agent and booked him out for eight weeks (when you book out it means they cannot submit him for any castings within that time- although he may not have had any castings in that time anyway, who knows- we don't live in a major market so while he did get plenty of work, he was not constantly busy with it, there just isn't THAT much work here) anyway I booked him out so he'd have a break from it, to help him decide if he'd like to just stop or if he would miss it. I would like him to keep at it, but not if he'd rather be doing something else. I realized I was being a tad pushy and I do want him to be happy so whatever he wants to do will have to be okay with me. As much as I was happy about what he was doing, it isn't worth ruining my relationship with him or his happiness or his self worth. Although I would love it if he says after this break "I really miss it, I want to keep doing it"..but if thats not why he says, I'm ready to hear that answer and accept it, and be proud of him.
And that was hard because I got so excited about it all...but it was actually people on this board that had me thinking...I thought do I love him because he is modeling or do I love him because he is my stepson? Obviously, the latter. So I had to let the other stuff go.

I was on a liquid diet once, right after having jaw surgery. I lost 15 lbs in 5 weeks, ended up very cranky from the lack of proper nutrition (even though I was drinking boost and that type of stuff), and gained all 15 lbs back in one week when I got to start eating real food. (no, I wasn't pigging out, my body just went into starvation mode)

I do not recommend doing it at all! You say you don't eat that much to begin with....maybe that's the problem. You need to eat 6 times a day for your metabolism to keep working at a peak level. And, truly if you are just looking to lose a few inches here or there, the only way to accomplish that is target training to firm up your muscles. Look into P90x. My husband did that and he had great results. I plan on trying it after I have my baby in May.

You can lose some water weight in the short term by cutting back on your salt.

But, my physician had the best answer when I asked him about losing weight through various different foods: "It's simple physics. You have to take in less energy (calories), and burn more. If you do that, you lose weight."
