Well, not really any lions or tigers - but LOTS of sharks!!
Our family joined us last week here at HH. We had two 2BR villas in Building 18 and had a great time as usual! We had a group of 10 including our 5 grandkids ranging in age from 5 to almost 10.
We spent a lot of time at the beach and pool. The kids enjoyed "Kid's Night Out" where the movie was Mr. Popper's Penguins. They also enjoyed watching Tangled under the Live Oak tree near on the shuffleboard court near the pool. Other evenings had Finding Nemo and The Princess and the Frog.
My son-in-law and I have gone on a fishing charter each of the last 5 years and this year decided to take the 3 oldest grandchildren. We went on the Gullah Gal, docked right across from the resort in Shelter Cove, with Captain Steve and first mate Mike. Two very nice guys with lots of experience fishing in the area. We left at 7:30am for a 4 hour trip. The Gullah Gal has a head (bathroom) and lot of covered area for shade, which was a big plus with the temps in the mid-90s with lots of sun. The morning started out hazy with a lot of smoke in the air blowing in from the fires in GA and FL.
While we were fishing, DW and our 2 DDs took the two youngest grandkids on a crabbing trip on the Crabber J and they also had a great time.
On the Gullah Gal, first-mate Mike caught about 250 pogies (menhaden shad) with a net for bait. Poagies are about 4" long and make good baitfish. Mike described a time-honored fishing tradition to the 3 kids and bit the head off of a pogie. He explained to them how good the brain was and commented that it tastes like chocolate - then asking if they'd like to try it. The two girls (10 and 8) quickly declined but my 9yo grandson decided to take the challenge and promptly grabbed one from the live well and bit off the head. When he started to try to chew it, Mike suggested that he just spit it out! After a quick rinse with some water he commented that it did taste like chocolate (but still couldn't get his cousins to join in the taste-fest!)

Once out at the South Beach point beyond Harbourtown we fished on a shelf about 200 yards offshore just as the tide was starting to come back in. We had 4 lines in the water at all times and we very busy catching a variety of sharks. Everyone participated and enjoyed the experience. SiL caught a 44" Bonnet Head shark and I caught a 50" Dusky. We also caught Black Tips and Hammer Heads - about 20-25 total catches!

On the way back to the dock we were visited by several Dolphin including a mother and calf who came right up to our boat.

B'Lou and Shadow were around a lot and the recreation staff was busy with an active schedule.
We had a wonderful week and look forward to the next opportunity to share HH with family!
