Linking States to Dis Characters

Ds is really interested in the different US States, so we have decided to try and collect autographs from CM's from every State on our next visit to WDW.

I've started to design an 'autograph book' with a page for every State. On each page I've included information such as the State Motto, flower, flag etc but I also want to add in a little bit of Disney - and this is where I got stuck.

Please forgive my ignorance as a cousin from across the water, but I'm struggling to come up with relevant Dis characters for a lot of the States.
I started alphabetically, and my ideas so far are
'Uncle Sam' Mickey for Alabama,
Snow buddies for Alaska (dog sled racing)
Cars characters for Arizona (Route 66)
Dopey with diamonds for Arkansas
- but thats where I've got stuck, because as I started to consider California, Colorado and Connecticut I realised that my knowledge of your Country is seriously limited as I couldn't think of a link to Disney for these, or many of the other States.
Would anyone care to offer up any ideas to help me out please

A few to consider.

New York: Ichabod Crane/Headless Horseman - Sleepy Hollow is in NY
Oliver & Co. Characters - Story Takes place in NYC

Maine: Bambi or Pete's Dragon - Both stories take place in Maine

Virginia: Pocahontas - Story Takes place there

Idaho: Mr. and/or Mrs. Potatohead - Potatoes are a main crop grown there.

Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana - Song of the South characters.

Texas: Woody or other cowboy characters.

Kentucky: Horace Horsecollar - Kentucky Derby

New Mexico: Panchito - He's from Mexico

Mississippi: Steamboat Willie - Steamboats on the Miss. River

Hawaii: Lilo & Stitch

Maryland: Sebastian - Blue crabs are harvested from Chesapeake Bay

The new Frog Prince Cartoon is all about New Orleans so one of those characters would be great for Louisiana.

I've seen lots of pictures of all the Disney characters in cowboy hats which would work for any of our western states.

New Jersey is the Garden State and I know there are some clip arts of some characters gardening!

you could use the Queen of Hearts for either Nevada (Las Vegas) or New Jersey (Atlantic City) or even more recent gambling mecca of Connecticut!

Washington: Johnny Appleseed or the Old Hag. Apples are a mjor crop there.

Utah: Scuttle (Little Mermaid) - Seagull is the State Bird

Alaska: Rutt or Tuke (Brother Bear) - Moose is the state mammal

California: One of the fab 5 surfing.
Stinky Pete (Toy Story) - Gold mining

Connecticut: Monstro - Sperm Whale is the state mammal

Florida: Mickey Mouse - Disney World
Buzz Lightyear - Space Program

Georgia: James (Jame & the Giant Peach) - State crop

Massachusetts: Francis (A Bug's Life) - Lady bug is the state insect.

Minnesota: Gopher (Winnie the Pooh) - Nicknamed the Gopher State.

Mississsippi: Tod (The Fox & The Hound) - Fox is the state land mammal

Montana: Koda or Kenai - State animal is the grizzly bear.

Nevada: Toby Tortiose (The Tortoise & the Hare) - State reptile

Oklahoma: Meeko - State animal

Pennsylvania: Einstien (Oliver & Co.) - Great dane is state dog.

South Carolina: Crush and/or Squirt - Sea turtle state reptile

Wisconsin: Angus MacBadger (Mr. Toad) - State Animal
