We booked our cruise through a travel agent and I know that we cannot modify the reservation without going through the travel agent. There are about 12 families from my daughters dance studio that are cruising together. One of them is my daughters best friends...the girls want to eat our meals together. I was told to linked out reservations together online, but is that enough to guarantee us being seated together for meals? It was a pain in the butt fixing my son's age that was wrong, so Id rather not have to deal with the Travel agent again...

Just a few weeks pre cruise, contact DCL direct, thry answer then even if booked by a TA.

I book by a TA, and the custom is everything goes by them, but in the last few weeks, in particular post paid in full, I have communicated direct on dinning and they answere.

Your actions so far should work.

If it's one or two families linked online there is no issue and you do it online, but fir your number it's worth calling them.

MDR assignment is undertaken around three days pre cruise, when the files are closed and then downloaded to the ship.

Sounds like a wonderful cruise. To be clear, you're only wanting to link with one of the families - the one with your daughter's best friend? Or did you want all 12 families linked? If it's onerous for you to go through your TA, could the other family link you to their reservation instead? Not sure if that will work, but it might allow you to avoid your TA.

the TA booked all the families. We just want to be seated with one other family.( 4 of us with 4 of them, 8 total) .. we were told if we linked the reservations they would put us together

As others have said call DCL and have them link the reservations or your travel agent can do it for you. We are doing the same thing with some friends we met on the cruise ship in 2014. Our travel agent has advised us to wait until all excursions and activities are booked. Last year we messed up and didn't link the reservations properly but when we got on the ship we went to the head waiter (they were in Royal Court with the Palo and Remy reservations on the Fantasy) They moved our tables to be with our friends and all was worked out. Best of luck.

Since the same travel agent booked everyone, he/she should have already linked everyone's reservations without being asked. While there's too many to be seated at one table, they should be in the same general area of the restaurants. If that's the case and your DD isn't assigned at the same table as her friend, maybe others in the dance group can trade.

We were linked with our friends and we were seated at the same dining table, we never asked to be seated together, it was automatically done. I believe if you are linked, they will sit you together. It becomes very convenient. We had one adult book Palo, one adult get meet n greet tickets and one adult book our mixology class for all 3 rooms while the others took the kids to Beach Blanket. It worked great.

If you linked them online under My Reservations, you are linked and will be seated together for dinner. (You will know this if you see both reservations listed under "My Reservations".) When your booking window opens for activities, you will also see that room listed. This was one of the good things that changed when they updated the website -- so much easier now to link reservations.
