Link Reservations from two memberships

I have two memberships and want to use points from both to stay at CCV cabins. Two nights with one membership and 3 nights from the other. I can’t transfer points because I will be using banked points. Anyone have problems linking the two reservations so you don’t have to change rooms? I’ve done it for a cash and point stay (not really linked but they didn’t make us move) but not from two different memberships.

It'll be the same as a cash and points stay. Not REALLY linked but indicated as a "continuing reservation". You'll still have to go to the front desk to "check out" and "check in," and there's often some glitches with your room key that day, but they won't make you move. It's not guaranteed, but especially now when they're so short staffed on housekeeping, you should be safe.

No need to go to front desk. It’s automatic now. Just did it earlier this month. and 4 times in last year. I got the folio that morning and a welcome email for the second part, but didn’t require me to do a thing and no issues with room keys.

Just make sure it’s noted and confirm when you get there you have been put in the same cabin because that’s the time they can fix if you have not.

I have done several times this year and no issues of having to move.

Oh good that's wonderful news. I've had very bad luck with this in the past. Never had to change units, but I always end up locked out of the room on the check-out/check-in day.

We did this over the summer. We were able to stay in the same room. We also had a split stay at another resort. I had room key and charging issues with every “new” stay. The first day we checked in, the day our 2nd reservation started and the day we switched hotels our magic bands did not work to open the room. The charging issues were never resolved during the 2nd part of our same hotel stay even though we spent an hour in the lobby and were told they should be fixed. But at least we didn’t have to check in/out to switch rooms.

Call, chat or email MS and ask the CM to put a note on each reservation to cross reference the other reservation & indicate a continuing reservation.

I would first check with MS to see if they will allow you to transfer the banked points. I know that the rule for transferring points is that banked and borrowed can't be transferred however just about a week ago I called to transfer some points within my memberships. I was very clear about transferring the points before banking, which they did, but the CM stated that they could transfer banked points if it was the same owner moving them between memberships. She said that they just couldn't move borrowed points. I double checked because I hadn't heard that before and she was certain that they could. Now I know CM's are not always correct so YMMV but worth a shot.

They can leave a note in chat. This won't be a problem, they don't want to pay to clean this room.

I was not allowed to transfer banked points. So it is not a policy change. So if it happens it’s an adjustment made by a CM.

Wow this would help a lot. We have separate contracts with the same use year, but our adult daughter is on the second one and not on the other one. So not the exact names.

Thanks Sandisw! So I just want to clarify something. I am considering buying a 2nd contract at a VGF, and there is a high likelihood that contract will have a different UY than my original BC contract. The VGF contract would also be less points than my original BCV contract. In that situation, I am guessing I would need to book 4 nights at VGF at 11 months and then book the following three nights (same room type at VGF) at the 7 month window using points from my original BCV contract. And you are saying I wouldn't need to do anything to have that 11 month reservation link right into the 7 month reservation, correct? Other than just reaching out to MS via chat and asking them to cross reference them? That sounds crazy easy. I have read many comments about how having multiple use years at different resorts is a major hassle when trying to combine points for a reservation. Pete said something similar on his podcast a few months ago. But if it is as easy as you are saying, then that isn't bad at all!

Thanks for your help! You are a great resource on here :)

Maybe. This works fine when there are a lot of the same room types, like at Poly or AKL. No problem. It might not work at VGF, where the room types are much more limited and they have to move you around because of the lockoffs. The studio situation at VGF1 is more complicated.

It should work, because they don't want to pay to clean the rooms, but maybe they don't really have a choice sometimes in situations where the rooms are limited, like special views or just small inventory. Especially those VGF1 rooms. There are so few of them, and they are all lockoffs.

Don't know why they couldn't do this seamlessly at VGC this past October. We had the requests for continuing stay on both reservations well in advance, but when we checked in, the front desk told us that, even though we could stay in the same room, our room key would not work after the 1st reservation ended and that we would need to come to the front desk to get new room keys. Fortunately, there wasn't a long line when we went back for the new keys.

Ok, thank you. My goal would be to book the same exact room type for both reservations, so hopefully they could just keep us in the same room. I have heard nightmares about trying to combine different resort/UY points for reservations, and it seems like the best solution is to just book two separate reservations like is being described in this thread. I am new to this because I have only had one contract, so I am just trying to do my homework before deciding on possibly getting a second contract. If reservations are a major hassle then we may just keep our one contract. Thanks!

Thats it! They will tell you it’s not guaranteed because there is always the chance..but I have never had to switch rooms. Was just that way in January at RIV.

I do always mention when I get there the first day to make sure just in case because that would be the time to try and fix it.

But now that we don’t even need to go to the front desk it makes it even easier!
ETA..I have done at VGF before for both studios and 1 bedrooms.

Last September, I had 2 reservations at AKV-Kidani. One with my Feb UY booked at 11 months and then a short on the beginning of the reservation for 2 nights with my Dec UY booked at 7 months. MS put notes in both reservations linking the 2 as continuing reservations (with the other reservation number listed) and that we requested to keep the same room. It was all the same villa type and view. When we arrived, I stopped by the desk to reiterate my request and they looked it up and said it looks like we have you in the same villa the whole time. And then day of, they called me again and let me know it was all taken care of and no need to move.

Question for you, Sandisw. What do you find yourself valuing more when getting a new resale contract, price/pt or UY? From everything I have read it seems managing two contracts with different UYs is harder than if those contracts have the same UY. Totally understandable. But if you found a contract you liked, yet the UY was different than your one other contract, would you hesitate to get it? I guess what I am trying to gauge is just how difficult it is to manage different UYs. Is it so difficult to keep you from pulling the trigger on a contract you liked?

It really depends on the size of the contract. If you can manage the new UY by treating each one on its own and not worry about transferring, or okay booking some nights of a trip on each one , the different UY can make it nice. That is how we ended up with Aug UY points because I just couldn't pass up the 300 point SSR contract at $73/point in 2017.

Now, other than a very rare time when I did the transfer...was selling so I needed to..I use each one on its own as though that is all I have. Currently, my Dec UY has SSR and RIV resale and my Aug UY has SSR and RIV direct. I will add VGF to the Dec UY.

Because of the way I have things, I don't worry about borrowing SSR points in one UY, even when I may have some in the other because it keeps it clean. IMO, if you treat things like this, it really is doable.

If I was going to go with a second UY, I would try to make it so that you hedge your bets to cover all the month...for example, I wouldn't get a Feb UY if I had March....but might get a Feb UY if I had Sept since it puts them far enough apart.

One UY is going to be easier in the sense that you can just book your trips without ever having to think about which contract to use or where the points might come from at 7 months if different resorts or 11 months if they are the same.

But, ultimately, price and size of contract would always win for me. I don't find it that hard because I don't combine. My Aug UY points cover my fall through March trips and my Dec UY points cover Dec through July trips. As I have shared, some trips during the winter months use points from both and that is when I have linked the reservations!

ETA: I more often than not do split stay so that has made it even easier for me because then it doesn't matter.

Thank you! That really helps. We really like the split stay we just did, so we see ourselves doing those more in the future. In that case, a different UY wouldn't really matter. Thanks again!!
