Link as to why you can't swim in WDW lakes?

To each his own.

We swim in the Mississippi river all the time and most folks wont put there toes in it. It's all a matter of what you are used to.

Disney does try and relocate any aligators to back areas of the property when they get over a certain size.We learned this from the golf courses where you see the sunny quite a bit. But the starter let us know about the relocation part.

I don't swim in any water that is brown or murky. Don't want to, don't need to. I shutter when I look at old pictures of myself at River Country, gross. Ewwww.

I can't see why anyone would want to swim in nasty lakes when you have lovely cement ponds to swim in.

I have no idea why anyone would even want to....ever smell those lakes??? As a former Floridian, most Florida bodies of water do not smell very good!

And to think there have been posts from those who don't want to swim in the resort pools because they have seen the ducks in the pools in the morning!!!! Nope, I stay far away from those lakes in WDW. Too many yucky things in them.

Last month at the Polynesian I always the ducks late at night in the Volcano pool and in the mornings they would be gone. So not sure how the Cast Members did it, but they seem to get them out of there. Now if they could keep them out at night that would also be good.

I could be wrong but the water in Disney's man made lakes seems kinda gross considering the boats that are in it non stop and the alligators/snakes. I feel like man made lakes aren't a real ecosystem that stays clean

You nailed it - the difference between these two 'lakes' and the Mississippi River or any other body of fresh water is that these the water 'course' at Disney is a closed system. The water isn't fed and replenished by freshwater streams or rivers nor does it flow out to anywhere at a reasonable pace.

The water is stagnant. The only thing oozing in or out is the nearby swamp water. Ewww...

As such, it's brown, frequently has oil or gas floating on the surface in some locations and filled with bacteria, amoeba and who-knows-what of all kinds.

Florida has the freshwater swimming rule as the law for a reason.
