Line jumpers / cutters >:-(

All these stories of being sworn at and people cutting in line are kinda bringing me down. :sad1: Please tell me this isn't the norm at Disneyland, we really want to have a good time but Im worried about having an exerience like one of the previous posters, those stories are all really horrific  given that you were at a family oriented park (Not to mention its Disneyland for crying out loud!!).

Just so you know, my little encounter with the lady trying to butt was the first and only time I've ever actually seen someone try to butt in line. It is most deffinately not the norm. We go every year and have never had a problem before.

It's not the norm for us either. There was only one instance of line-cutting I've ever witnessed at DL in all the years that we've been. Just last year, this young guy and his friends tried to cut into the fast-pass line for Splash Mtn. However, these line-cutters were booed by everyone in the line and a CM caught on to the fracas in the line-up. Once the CM was informed on what was happening, he kicked those guys out of the line-up. That was most satisfying. And those guys left, no swearing. They realized they couldn't get away with it so they just moved on.

DL is overall very well managed and orderly. You needn't worry.

This thread also reminds me of when we went on POC the first official day it reopened after the Johnny depp remodel. There was a point in the line where CMs were saying people couldn't join their party and the woman in front of us had to take her daughter to the bathroom. Her husband was pretty mad at her for doing this but you can't expect a 5 year old to wait for the potty, she told him if she didn't make it back in time it wasn't a big deal. She came back after the point of no line joiners and yelled to her husband she was just going to go to the POC store and wait for him there. He then went crazy and started yelling at her to get in line and that she was ruining the trip. He stayed in line with their two boys and grumbled the rest of the way to the ride.

Same here, the worst we have seen is the meltdowns some kids experience around naptime.:rotfl:

I definately think it's worse during grad nights. I have seen it many times over the years, but not every trip. We saw teens doing this and a man behind us blocked their way and when they tried another way, others blocked them, too. Everyone started clapping in appreciation. Lol

After being at the Shanghai Expo, DL is great in terms of line etiquette. It was nuts there. Don't let the occasional jumper ruin your day. I usually just call the out, then forget it.

Hi. Sorry to bring you down. This is very much not the norm at DL. That's why I was so shocked when it happened. I've been to the park about 10 times and it's the first time I've ever soon anything even close to it. Go to the park. You'll have a good time. Don't worry about a thing :-).

I like this idea..everyone who sees cutting just BOO..it will embarass the cutter and draw the attention of a CM

Yesterday we'd been in line for POTC for about five minutes when someone cut in behind us...
was told that my last option was to raise a complaint at City Hall, which I later did.
Did you really let ONE person get you this upset? Yes, cutting is wrong, but two people cut in front of you and you let it take up this much of your day? Why give them so much power? I understand the principle of it, but it added maybe 1 minute to your wait and you let them have so much power over your mood and your day. Why?

didn't want to get in an argument with the lout (he and his gf looked pretty seedy).
I'm sorry, I understand the guy made you mad, but are we really judging people by how they look when spending a day at Disneyland?

Why did this bother you SOOOO much? It's wrong. It stinks. It's bothersome. It doesn't physically harm you or take money out of your pocket so I guess I just don't get the extreme level of which you were bothered or that you went to in effort to "catch" them. Was there something else going on? You spent 3 days in the Park and are so upset by 2 people getting in front of you on one line. It just seems out of proportion in the scope of an entire trip, to me anyway.

Don't sweat the little stuff. Karma will find its way to those who have it coming to them,
Dreams

P.S. The thought that is swimming in my head at the moment is that other DIS members have posted on here about how THEY cut lines to get things done and they knew it was wrong, but they were in a hurry (or whatever justification they came up with) and they don't do it often, and and and.... I wonder what they are thinking as they read this thread? (Or if perhaps they were even the one that someone's story above is referencing. Wouldn't that be ironic?)

Why is this so bothersome sometimes? Because depending on each incident it can be extremely rude and offensive. My dh who never lodges any complaints did so last summer after we waited in the blazing sun in a LONG line for Mulholland Madness. At the very end of the line a group of six "caught up" with their one friend while giving those of us who had waited dirty looks. A few other people in line joined him as he complained loudly to a CM. Did they eject the offending line-cutters? No....but I'd like to think that they'll think twice before doing it again. I wish someone had complained the time before they chose to cut in our line, maybe it would have stopped them.

The less you worry about these things the happier the trip will be for everyone. The trip is too important to not enjoy it....

There are degrees of what someone finds offensive enough to act on. Certainly there can be instances of line cutting that are only mildly annoying so you let it go. Just like all the instances of people getting hit by strollers. I'm sure the majority of those instances (like line cutting) warrant looking the other way and just going on with your day but again, there are degrees. Recently Jack (blackjackdelta) posted about his daughter getting rammed by a stroller so hard that she needed stitches and if I recall correctly, security ejected the offending family.

I don't think it's necessary or fair to minimize someone's experience with a broad stroke by saying anything to the tune of "Just enjoy your vacation, why are you letting this get to you so much?". The line jumpers (and no, it's not super uncommon) can be seriously offensive sometimes. In our case, it would have been wrong for us NOT to complain while the party of six shamelessly pushed through everyone in line and shot them mean, dirty looks...including our two children. You'd better believe it was more than appropriate to speak up :sad2:

When skiing I work the liftlines pretty well. If you are unfamiliar with skiing, there is not a maze, because that is hard to navigate on skis. Like DL the wait to ride a skilift can be like waiting for Splash Mountain or the Jungle Cruise. Anywhere between ski on and a 2 hours wait. The lines integrate with many merging Ys, to get a huge group of people into a single line to load.

When skiing I let everyone in on thier turn. But if they look like they might cut I can reach out with a ski or pole to cut them off. If they cut in front of me I will step on thier skis. Imagine trying to walk while stepping on your untied shoe lace. They might stumbled a little or at least wonder why thier smooth sliding ski is stuck.

If people cut in front of me in a regular line. Toes or heals can be stepped on too. My best tool for dealing with cutters is my son. We can have a loud discussion about line etiquette. "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" will come into play.

I was at Magic Mountain this past weekend and we had a similar problem. Granted, Magic Mountain is no Disney- We still found cutters EVERYWHERE.

After we had ridden X2 (which is probably the most popular coaster there- we waited about 90 minutes..) a gentleman (if you can call him that) hopped over the exit bar and got in line again. And I'm not talking the end of the line- I am talking he got right on the next train to ride.. The line operater was busy directing people where to go so he missed it. The line jumper and myself made eye contact and I gave him the dirtiest look imaginable- and then gave him a creepy grin. I walked over to the line operater and just said keep your eye out for shaved head guy with the neon green hurley shirt. I didn't tell on him saying he line jumped but the line operater stared at him and I'm pretty sure scared the line jumper into thinking he was going to get kicked out. The look on the line cutters face was enough vidication for me. I don't think he will be line jumping again.

The cutter didn't ruin my day- But at least I ruined his 2nd ride on X2. Hehe!

The City of Santa Clara (in the SF Bay Area) owned the Great America amusement park, during the 1980s. Line cutting was so out of control the city council made cutting in line a misdemeanor, with fines up to $1000 and six months in jail.

Haha seriously? Well.. No wonder he was so scared! I would be too! :)

After waiting in the line of SM for a good 2 hours we had a group of maybe 6 teenagers join 3 who were a few ahead of us. So frustrating :headache:

HA... I remember that....

After that it was a great night though :)
