For the first time we will be traveling with an handicap individual (3 of us total). Is there a separate line for the handicap? Someone told me that there is but people were taking advantage of it because it was shorter wait times and therefore if there is someone who is genuinely handicap you will need to somehow register first? Does anyone know of this or heard of this? Maybe the person had their facts wrong? Any help will be appreciated

Please read the first post in this thread http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3178976. This is for WDW. DL has a slightly different procedure and that information can also be found at the top of this forum in a similar fashion.

It outlines the disability procedures. Obtaining a DAS card for a disability will depend on the persons need.

There are no separate or shorter lines for the disabled. Most lines are wheelchair/ECV accessible. The DAS card will allow for waiting outside the line and entrance into the FP after an amount of time based off of the standby line.

You'll need to visit a Guest Relations at one of the theme parks, explain the needs of the disabled individual, and they will advise you on what accommodations are available based on the guest's need.

As the previous poster wrote, almost all the lines are accessible and people with disabilities wait in the same lines as other guests.

The few attractions that have a separate entrance for guests with wheelchairs and other mobility issues have the separate entrance because the regular line is not accessible. They sometimes have a longer wait because of that.
