Las Vegas Dumps her and her Show due to her praising Michael Moore!

I heard she was boo'd(sp?) off the stage after telling the audience that they should see his film. Is that true? Did she actually leave the stage?

I read this yesterday and was shocked. I can't believe the hotel would not even let her back in her suite. I think some people go too far in this country. Everyone has a right to their opinions. The Aladdin Hotel was WRONG to kick her out.

That is so ridiculous and childish. Freedom fries, crushing Dixie chicks cd's..now this. LOL.

When I go to places like Las Vegas with my wife, we go to "get away from it all." I wish to be entertained by people such as Rondstadt, not given a polictal commentary.

The Alladin was paying Linda to entertain their guests. The audience was angry and walked out. If the guests aren't happy, the hotel management isn't happy either. Here's one report on the incident. It sounds like she was removed from the hotel for her own safety.

Ronstadt Incident

Rueters makes it sound like she knew this would happen, it also reports she was only hired for one night:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Singer Linda Ronstadt was thrown out of the Aladdin casino in Las Vegas on the weekend after dedicating a song to liberal film maker Michael Moore and his movie "Fahrenheit 9/11," a casino spokeswoman said on Monday.
Ronstadt, who had been hired for a one-show engagement Saturday night at the Las Vegas Strip casino, dedicated a performance of "Desperado" to Moore and his controversial documentary, which criticizes President Bush and the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

That dedication angered some Aladdin guests who spilled drinks, tore down posters and demanded their money back, said casino spokeswoman Sara Gorgon.

"We had quite a scene at the box office," she said.

About a quarter of the 4,500 people in the audience got up and left before the performance had finished, Gorgon said.

Before her concert, Ronstadt had laughingly told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she hoped that the casino performance would be her last.

"I keep hoping that if I'm annoying enough to them, they won't hire me back," she was quoted as telling the newspaper.

A statement issued by the Aladdin said Ronstadt had been "escorted out of the hotel" just after her performance and said the performer would "not be welcomed back."

"Ms. Ronstadt was hired to entertain the guests of the Aladdin, not to espouse political views," the casino said.

Ronstadt was not immediately available for comment.

Apparnatly "bedlam Broke lose with the audience" and the President of Alladin Hotel was the one who told her to leave!::yes:: Sounds to me like the Audience didn't like what she had to say, and Alladin hotel took action!

I love Vegas! In fact, I'm leaving for there tomorrow:Pinkbounc :bounce: When I am there seeing a show, the last thing I want to hear is someone else's political views, especially, when I paid money to see the show. The attendees did not pay to hear her political views. Of course she has a right to her opinion. However, this was not the proper place to voice that opinion. I'm glad the Aladdin took the stand it did. They listened to their guests, the people that paid to see a concert.

A few months ago, she had a concert in Washington, DC and made the same remarks. She was boo'd by half the audience and cheered on by the other half. Nothing big came of it and was reported by The Washington Post the next day. I would say that she's obviously been saying this at all of her shows, but apparently had the wrong crowd in Las Vegas.

I imagine Elton will complain about censorship again. What he (and Joe Black) don't get is that she was working at the time she pulled this. I'm off to run a meeting right now, and if I decided to make political commentary part of the meeting, I'd be disciplined too. And rightfully so.

Vegas is a place for lonely and bored people to pour their
money down a big hole. I sent thousands there as a travel
agent, it always amazed me. Gambling and has been entertainers
are not my cup of tea. It sounds like Rondstadt knew just what
she was doing. She such a stellar and versatile entertainer, the
owners of the Alladin are not worthy of her. Before you argue about what Vegas is and why people go there...don't bother,
I won't be back. I'm going to go put on my Rondstadt CDs!
:sunny:

Why do entertainers feel the need to constantly use their media exposure as a public forum to debate their policital views. If you are a singer - sing. If you are an actor - act. Just because someone is a celebrity, doesn't mean I care about their policital views. If I paid to go to a concert, I would want just that - a concert.

Agreed. It was not the time and place. Boos or cheers would have been enough. To have to escort her out of the hotel (for her own safety), banned from coming back and making it a headline piece of news is way to much.

I am sure she would not have been asked to leave if she had said good things about the IRaq war or President Bush, would she?

Sounds to me like she knew how to push the buttons of the hotel management and wanted to make a scene. She got exactly what she wanted. No biggie.

We don't know that and to assume that is wrong IMHO. The article says approximately one quarter of the auidence was upset, it's possible if she said something about supporting Bush it could have been different quarter of the audience or even more who got upset and walked out or demanded their money back.

I completely agree. If I want to hear a political speech, I'll go to a political rally. If I want to hear someone SING, I'll go to a concert. How hard is that for Hollywood to understand????

Yeah. It would have been a different quarter, but asking her to leave would have resulted in the hotel being called unpatriotic, a "towelhead" Hotel (Aladdin) or some ridiculous grade school thing like that. Of course we don't know that, but IMHO I can assume it because I have not seen any Bush supporting group being chastised the way the French, the Dixie Chicks, Michael Moore, Sean Penn or Tim Robbins have, now, have you?
