limiting to counter service?

Well, we did it! We booked another trip this year to WDW. We just couldn't wait until next year - so we're going back in Feb/March! We decided to limit ourselves to counter service restaurants on this trip, though. We aren't big eaters so my heart is never set on lots of huge sit down meals. This is an all new thing for me to plan! Any suggestions on the not to be missed CS restaurants in the parks? We generally end up eating something for breakfast, a snack in our room during our 'break' and then dinner. We are staying at SOG - but might be interested in checking out another resort or two while we are there.

In Epcot I would suggest both Yakitori House in Japan and Tangerine Cafe in Morroco. They do not serve hamburgers or hot dogs. Also try the Sunshine Seasons Food Court in The Land for a wide selection of foods.

In MK try the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station which is between the Plaza Inn and Tomorrowland.

In AK both the Flame Tree Barbeque as well as Tusker House are good selections.

For the studios I don't really have any suggestions for food there other than standard "American" fare.

Note - all the underlines are links to recent menus.

I thought Tangerine Cafe in morroco was great. Also the portions were very large-this might be a good choice for a dinner. :wizard:

You must try Columbia Harbor House in MK - counter service that is a step above...
we stayed at SOG - you will LOVE it and the breakfast buffet is very reasonably priced
MGM is sadly lacking in good counter service though

We ate at Backlot Express at MGM and the food there was very good. The service however was SLOW, only waited in line 5 minutes to order but waited 15 minutes at the counter for our food to be brought out. The turkey and cheese sandwich with peppers was very tasty and you hardly noticed the peppers on it, fresh and moist turkey. The kid's chilled chicken was also tasty and mildly spiced and the fresh veggies were good with the ranch dipping sauce. The chicken strips were your standand ones but good. The fries were the big steak fries and also good.

Studio Catering Co at MGM is good. i also like the turkey sandwich from Backlot express

Here are our favorites:

MK: Columbia Harbor House

AK: Pizzafari (like the sandwiches, pizza is so-so)

Epcot: Yakatori House, San Angel Cantina

MGM: We usually end up eating hot dogs while we wait for Fantasmic. We have eaten at the outdoor place near TOT and RNRN (can't remember the name). They have decent burgers and real ice tea. We usually go to Sci Fi for lunch. It is pretty cheap and the portions are big enough to share. We generally find its not that much more than cs and we love those corny movie clips.

We have enjoyed all the food courts at the resorts we have stayed at. If I am sticking to cs meals that is usually my first pick.

::yes::
MGM for breakfast try the ABC commissary, reasonable priced @ breakfast--I don't have any lunch experiences there-
for Epcot we also recommend Harry Ramsden's for tasty, inexpensive fish & chips(the only food they serve)--last week they had the herb garden in the UK furnished w/tables & chairs--also La Patisserie in France. they have a dynamite ham & cheese croisant & quiche as well as wonderful pastries & all priced right. Honestly, we have paid more in sit downs for desserts of smaller portions not as well made--

Have a super trip! :flower:

Thes are great suggestions, You have included what I would call the best counter options in WDW.I would add the Earl of Sandwich to the list.

I've done counter service almost exclusively (with just a couple of exceptions) the last couple of trips, and I never felt like I was eating the same thing over and over or that my choices were too limited, even though I'm a vegetarian, which automatically limits choices a bit.

A few of my favorite CS restaurants: Columbia Harbour House in MK, Tangerine Cafe in Epcot, Sunshine Seasons in Epcot, Earl of Sandwich in DTD, and Tusker House in Animal Kingdom.

MGM had always been a problem for CS, but this trip I tried Toy Story Pizza Planet for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised. The pizza was actually pretty good, and you can get a small side salad with it.

I agree with these, except for the Flame Tree suggestion, we've given it a try three separate times and it's always been terrible. Tusker House was just ok. For AK, we tend to eat before/after we go and just have a snack there.

MGM, I've heard good things about the redone Studio Catering Co, so we'll be checking that out either this weekend or the next.

If you are staying at SOG try Evergreens - while it is waiter service, very casual and their prices are about the same as Disney counterservice with a lot more choices.

We actually did try Evergreens at SOG. We weren't really impressed with it - BUT mostly it had to do with the service - not the food. I know how hit and miss good service can be.

I really appreciate all your great suggestions. We have been to WDW 4 times with our girls, and several times alone. Our first trips were all counter service. We got away from that on our last two trips (well, not counting F&W fest!). I actually am feeling excited about planning for counter service this time. Isn't that crazy? It is like a new mission - finding the best cs places for our family. :earboy2:

Here's our fav CS:

MK Columbia Harbor House

AK Tusker House (Wonderful salmon!!!) :goodvibes
Flametree BBQ

Epcot Sunshine Seasons!!! (Everything we've tried is very good and the desserts are MMMMMMM!!!)

MGM We only eat at Backlot, good cheeseburgers and grilled turkey sandwiches, we think. If pressed by DS Pizza Planet pizza is OK.

I like Beaches and Cream (or for true counter service you coud get a meal at Hurricane Hannas.

Also if you are out at SSR for a tour of DVC...their food court is very good, just limited selections. You also can't go wrong with fish and chips or Sommerfest(if you like German food).

There's a counter service bakery at MGM (can't remember the name right now) that has good sandwiches AND the Cobb Salad from the Brown Derby.

:cool1:

Don't forget about the Egg Roll Wagon at the MK and the occasional spur-of-the-moment hotdog carts that come out of the woodwork at MK and MGM.

Definately Earl of Sanwich in Downtown. $5.00 sandwiches are huge and their breaad is really tasty.

Our favorite CS:
MK Columbia Harbouar House Fresh Sandwiches, good soup
We also liked the burgers and fixin bar at Peco Bill's
AK Tusker House. Good chicken dinners, delicious chicken sandwich
MGM Not the best CS in my opinion, Ate at Backlot Express in October and we were pleasantly surprised. Burgers were good (not as good as Peco Bill's) and chicken fingers were too.
EC Cantina de San Angel for Mexican
Harry Ramsden for Fish and Chips
Yakitori House skewers and rice.

We ate at Tusker House, Sunshine Seasons, and Sommerfest in Germany. All were really good.

On our next trip, we would like to try Columbia Harbor House.
