Limit to how far in advance you can borrow future UY points?

They have a February UY, and are booking for April 2014. They've already used up their 2013 and 2014 points, and need to borrow from 2015 to complete their planned vacation (they only need one more day).

They were told that they have to wait until Feb 1st before they can borrow their 2015 points into 2014.

I didn't think that mattered - as long as the booking is in the previous UY, you should be able to borrow from the following UY.

Which is correct? Can you borrow from 2015 points to book in your 2014 UY, while still within your 2013 UY?

What they were told is incorrect. You can borrow points any time you can make a reservation, and you have points available in the next use year (next relative to when you are traveling, not when you are booking).

If they have a Feb UY, and they are booking for April '14, they can use points from their '13 UY (banked), '14 UY (current) or '15 UY (borrowed). HTH

Members may borrow when making a reservation. Borrowing is allowed from the Use Year following the Use Year of the dates of the reservation they wish to make.

With a February Use Year and a reservation during their 2014 UY - they may currently borrow points from their 2015 UY for reservations at their Home Resort for 10/1/14 or earlier and for stays at other DVC resorts for 6/1/14 or earlier. They could not borrow for a stay prior to 2/1/14.

Whoa, did they get that answer from MS on the phone? That seems like a really rookie mistake, and indicates a serious training issue.

I just did this. I have a March UY so I am in UY 2013, I booked for UY 2014 using UY 2015 points. No issues at all.

Have them use the online system. It shows you your point status prior to letting you book the reservation. If you need to borrow points, it lets you.

Unfortunately we had to cancel today's planning session for them, but she understands now she can do it. She went to do it online, and unfortunately VWL was booked. So they are debating waitlist, cash, etc.


She did say she was told on the phone she couldn't, but I don't know how much misunderstanding was on which side yet.
