Limit the days for DDP?

We are going in December for 8 days. We don't plan on going to WDW all day, every day - we plan a day for Sea World and Kennedy Space Center. However, we are going to purchase the 8 day ticket - since the price difference is minimal - just in case we want to go to the park even for an hour or so on one of those days. So - my question is - can I get DDP for 5 days instead of the entire length of my stay/tickets??

No. Period. Explanation in a minute.

The Disney Dining Plan is tied to the number of nights of your package, NOT to the number of days of your ticket.

The ONLY way to get the Dining Plan for five nights (again, not days) is to split your reservation into one five-night package and one three (or two?) night room-only reservation.

Now you run into the problem that your dining credits expire at midnight of the day you check out from your package reservation.
