Can I put a limit or specified amount on my DD's card? She's only 10 but I know she will enjoy being able to "charge" things on her own. However, I want to be able to control the limit. Has anyone ever done this? Thanks!

Unfortunately, that isn't an option. It is all or none.

For our kids we have them take cash and then when they make a "purchase" on the card they go to Guest Services and pay on it. I wish they would let you put a limit on their cards but they won't. We just either were with our kids when they charged or we would go to Guest Services at night and get a printout and add up how much each child owed. Other than that we couldn't figure out another way.

we tried limiting the adults by attaching a credit card that only had a certain amount available ... unfortunately that doesn't work either ;) because when you exceed the c/c limit DCL lets you keep charging, and then they just call you to Guest Services to pay the balance.

I thought that children didn't have charge privileges on their cards. Doesn't it specify 'not valid for charging'?

Mickeyhugger, children automatically have charing privileges on their Key To the World Cards. If you don't want them to be able to charge things, you have to go to guest services and have the privileges removed from their cards.

I thought you could indicate who'd have charging privileges when you checked in (by how you filled out your docs)??

Susan,

I thought the same exact thing when I saw the "payment authorization form" in our cruise documents. You have to list out the names of the people who are authorized to charge to your card, but then if you look at the last few lines, it states that all minors have charging privileges and that you have to stop by guest services to change that. So why exactly are we filling out the names in our party who can charge? That one has me a bit confused.

I'm going to take the suggestion of a previous poster and give each of my children "cash". I'll keep it in an envelope in the safe, but will deduct any spending that they do on the ship. My two oldest are 18 and 14 though, so they should be able to keep track of what they spent. My 14 year old has already asked me for a breakdown of what's included and what he needs to pay for. I told him that I would purchase the soda package and internet access for him, but any smoothies that he purchases in the teen room and video game cards are his responsibility. We're going to Disney for 2 days after the cruise, so that will be a little incentive for them to not spend all their money. I know they want to buy souveniers at the parks too. It will be interesting to see how they budget themselves.

Most confusing and irritating of things to have to do - is go to Guest Services to "invalidate" charging on a minor's KTTW card.

How many of us would allow our child to have unlimited spending????? As opposed to those who need to have limits set or no charging privileges?

Disney needs to both change and clarify this policy since we were one of those who did not know we had to take special action to keep our son's KTTW Card inactive for charges!

My kids have Disney Dollars saved and that is their spending money on the cruise, then they can charge and go to Guest Services and pay it down and once the $$ is gone......

Maybe you all can give me some suggestions on this...my DH are debating what the kids should pay for and what we should pay for. My DH thinks we should pay for everything but I think the kids should be responsible for some of their spending...What do you think? My kids are 11 and 7(soon to be 8)

Well here is my kids will buy on their own. Our kids are 10, 9 and 5 and have worked their tails off at home for the last 2 months earning money to spend. I will pay for anything food related like snacks outside the theatre and I will also buy the soda package for them. We are giving them each 1 arcade game as a present when we get on board but after that they will have to spend their money if they want to play games. Also anything they want in one of the stores on board or in Disneyworld we told them we would go 1/2 with them on it so if they want an 8 dollar Mickey it will cost them 4 and us 4 and then when their money is completely gone (since they will in essence double it) we are done with souveniers. For our kids it at least teaches them a little money responsibility and we feel a little to blame since we didn't tell them about the cruise early enough for them to earn double the cash.

Hydster - Can I be one of your kids next time when you cruise. I promise to behave. And I can even mix gin and tonics. - Mike
