Lime Wire

Haha, every thread becomes controversy...

Love it...kinda...

Heya, I just thought I would share my opinion on this debate-I download music from the Internet, so I really should just go out and buy the album but then if I brought the actual CD for EVERY song I liked, I would be skint by now. And half of singers and bands are rich, live in LA and spend loads of money on whatever they want so they don't really need the extra money!! Singers and bands still make lots of money by appearing on TV, touring and doing concerts-and a lot of singers say they prefer touring to making records.
Sorry I just had to get my opinion out :)

Problem is it is illegal and violation of US copyright laws. I do not like piracy at all. You wouldn't try to get a CD from a record store for free, would you?
Piracy is stealing.

Thats it.
There is no arguement against it. Its stealing. And if you steal you are a theif. And theives go to jail.

I am an artist and I make my art for people. I give it away, but when I give it to you, it is understood that you do not sell my work. It is stealing. That is the same thing. Except I'm not losing money by giving you what I made.

When an artists song goes up for free, one person has paid for it. Then another hundred people can download it. Thats a hundred people that aren't paying that artist for their song. now multiply that over and over every day after every day. think of that money. You're stealing by taking that song, and youre enabling theft by putting that song up.

I use napster, and I pay to stream my songs. I also pay .99 to download them onto something. But streaming is 10 dollars a month. Streaming is free because I am not giving this music to anyone.

There are legal and right ways to listen to music.

But this is not one of them. Piracy is morally and legally wrong.

As an artist I have no respect for someone who calls themselves a pirate. Just like I have no respect for the petty theif.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, a lot of bands are not as rich as you think they are.

I would use limewire. But I heard its highly illegal and gives your computer viruses.

Itunes and Ipods aren't compatable with other things. Now I figured out a mildly illegal way of getting a song from itunes to play on other things, but the apple people really don't like people like me. If you have an Ipod, you have to use Itunes.

Now france has passed a bill that has everyone waiting to see what happens. Its saying that songs bought from Itunes must be compatable with other mp3 players. Which is great, if you don't know my trick.

I'm wondering what Apple will do about it.

In a perfect world they would make Ipods compatable with all file types.

But I don't live in a perfect world and Ipods only play AAC files. (I believe thats the file name)

So Ipod owners really can only use Itunes.

But the rest of us can stick with napster.

Actually iPods play more than just AAC files, here's a list from Apples Website:

AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF

I was under the impression that you couldn't play anything on an ipod that didn't come from Itunes :confused3

either way, I'm still waiting to see what happens with the french law.

My predictions is if the French actually are able to make Apple allow any iTunes downloads to work with any mp3 player, then most likely Apple will just pull out of the French market.
