Not sure if this is the right place to post but wanted to let you Lillian Vernon shoppers out there know that Lillian Vernon has opened a call center in India to take order and customer service calls. This means many hundreds of jobs are taken from U.S. citizens and given to India. Spread the word and let Lillian Vernon know how you feel about this 800-545-5426.

There was an article in the paper here about this. I tried to place an order several weeks ago and must have talked to India. Couldn't understand anything she said. Hung up and called back later and asked to speak to a supervisor to complain. Last time I'll order from them.

Wow, I had no idea. I've only ordered from them 2x. Thanks for posting and Welcome to the DIS! :D

My husband use to work for the computer company that runs BP and lost there contract and BP outsourced through India. Suppose to be really cheap to do it there. There was an article in the paper a year ago about this.

I urge everyone to not buy from them or anyone else who does this kind of CRAP! Please post if you know of anyone else!!!

Does anyone know if this applies to Harry and David as well, I thought they were a sister company of Lilian.

I read recently that Dell pulled its service call center out of India because they got too many complaints that the Indians could not be understood. Hopefully this will follow the same path.

One way to get around not having to speak to a foreign call center is to place your order online!

I placed an order through them about a month ago and everything went smoothly!

Our local Capital One customer call center recently closed down and moved most of their operation to...you guessed it...INDIA!

Some of the employees were given the opportunity to transfer to the Richmond area, but most of them didn't want to commute and had to look elsewhere. Some are still unemployed.

Capital One really did a sneaky thing to their employees. They were never told what was about to happen, but it was very obvious when they were having to train people from India how to do their jobs.

American companies are doing this... it's happening more than people know, it's truly frightening. It's happening in other industries as well, like tech companies. Everyone is setting up shop in India. I really worry what effect this will have on our economy a few years down the road...:(

The best thing to do is to write your state representatives/government officials and express your concerns to them. ::yes::

I am a software engineer for a manufacturing company. We have set up manufacturing operations in China, and are hiring "engineers" in India. We are told that in order to compete in the world market we have to look at lowering our costs and be where the demand is! They tell us if we want things to come back to the US to buy American - have you ever tried to do this? It is next to impossible! The turn around rate of employees in both China and India is very high, so we don't understand how we're going to save money if we have to keep training new people. For now I have a job - just have to keep trusting that it won't be taken away!
