Likelihood of an upgrade at check-in

I've been second guessing myself about our standard room reservation(mainly for proximity to the beverage station), and now just before our trip someone in our group has injured their foot. I'm really thinking a room closer to the food court and shop would be better. As long as there are rooms available, would it be possible to upgrade to a preferred room at check-in with the understanding that I would pay the difference? I know in the grand scheme of things it is a bit silly to worry about such a small walk when we're going to be walking a lot in the parks, but if the issue with her foot persists we'd probably rent a wheelchair in the parks. Not sure if that is an option for the resorts. Thanks for any input you can offer :)

If there is a room available for your length of stay, I can't imagine why they wouldn't let you pay to upgrade! :)

I would look now, and if a preferred room is available I would book that so you know you have it. You can rent a wheelchair from offsite which will be cheaper for you and can be delivered to your resort, this way you can use it at the parks and around the resort, if you visit the Disabilities forum here there is lots of information about vendors that rent wheelchairs.

Op, I would also suggest renting a wheelchair from a company that can deliver to your resort. FYI: I had to push my mom in a park wheelchair unexpectedly once and it was much more difficult than pushing my sister in her personal one.

I would upgrade now and also suggest renting an electric wheelchair or scooter from an offsite company. Pushing a wheelchair in Aug/Sept extreme heat and humidity will be very hard. There are more inclines than you think.

I would not wait. If you know this is the room level you want, why wait until checkin and chance that there is no availability?
