Hi!

My nephew thinks anything that plays music is an IPOD. He is asking for one for his birthday -he is only turning 7, but has big brothers and sisters with all kinds of ipod's and zunes. Any suggestions for something more inexpensive that would play music and maybe show video? It would be helpful if by any chance it could hook to itunes????? ( :

Thanks!!

Do the Ipod nano's show video? You can get those refurb on the Apple site pretty cheap. My daughter got her first Ipod at about 8 years old and she was fine with it.

You may find an old Touch somewhere as well.

Only actual, Apple-made iPods can be synced to iTunes. You can use iTunes for your music without having an iPod, but you can't use iTunes to put music on a zune or some generic mp3 player.

You could check the refurbished iPod or iPod Touch on Apple's website. Go to the Apple Store and scroll down, I think the link for refurbished products is on the left hand side near the bottom. We've bought a few refurbished ones and no problems.

Sansa has some nice mp3 players that also support video. The sound quality is good and the price tag must easier on the wallet. I have a Fuze and really like it.

I have a Sansa Clip..love it! very reasonable price. Supports MP3, but of course not Itunes. My version doesn't have video, but I'm sure there are some that do...by SanDisk

We love our Sansa Clips. We both have MP3 players that hold all of our music and for videos (Zune and Zen), but for a 7 yo kid who may or may not take good care of it, I would get a clip.

There is also a Clip+ which has expandable memory. The sound on these little guys is great and very sturdy.

not sure what the price tag is but wanted to let you know this week (ending today) target has an 8g ipod touch for 225 with a free $25 target giftcard so $200 I thought that was pretty good for itouch.

Toys r us has all clearanced out electronics (ending in an 8) at an extra 50% off yesterday and today. There was a sansa 8 g and it was 39.99 and there was some kind of device that was mp3 and said touch screen and played videos, marked at 109 so it would be 60 after the extra % off. They even had the disney mix max and mp3 players at 9 to 19 dollars before 50% off.

It is not as easy to deal with non apple mp3 players in my opinion

You can use an iPhone as an iPod touch. If you can find someone who got a new one and has an old one you could maybe buy it for cheap. I'm giving my phone to my DD7 as soon as my new phone comes and she will have iPhone that works as an iPod.

You haven't said what your budget is. Is an ipod touch absolutely out of the question? I think he would likely be disappointed in something different than what he is asking for and what his older sibs have.

I know last year some stores were giving away ipod touches with laptop purchases, so there were a lot of brand new ipods for sale on craigslist. You could do a search...type new ipod touch and then check the button title only to search. I saw two new ones for on our craigslist for $170 & $175. Otherwise as PP suggested, refurb models at the applestore - come in a brandnew box with warranty.

Craig makes a knock off that looks like an ipod touch BUT it doesn't work with itunes.

The nano will play movies as well as music plus there are 5 or 6 games that you can get for it.
