Lightsabers, Mouse Kisses and a Man in a Lucky Shirt! A January 2010 TR

Hey, just wanted to tell you I've enjoyed reading your report so much. My trip is coming up soon, and I the way you wrote your report has me very excited about our upcoming trip.

That is so nice that you kids were so well behaved, that the waiter noticed it. I hope they enjoyed their prizes. What a great reward!

We enjoyed our (one) meal at Boatwright's, too! :thumbsup2 And kudos to you for instilling such good manners in your girls.

That pool and serpent slide were a favorite of our kids, too. Like you said, it was VERY difficult to get them to leave it once they were in the water!

So glad you were able to meet up with friends for a little down time at the resort. Its good to unwind after a long day of fun!

I know you're busy, but I hope its not as long until the next update!

Kathy

Hey Kathy! :goodvibes

I hope it doesn't take as long either - I am starting to forget some of the little details! :scared1: I have already uploaded the next chapters pictures so it is just a matter of writing the chapter! :)

Great update Kim! We thought POR was beautiful too!

I can attest to the fact that the girls are very well behaved! And such nice kids - you should be so proud!!!

Thanks Sheree!

Thank you very much! I am very glad you are enjoying reading along! :) I bet you are very excited for your upcoming trip! When are you going and where are you staying?? :goodvibes

I say pee-can too and I am corrected by my relatives in Virginia that is pe-cahn! And pie is pronounced more like paiiiii with a little a in it and then a really long i. :confused3 Either way- glad it was delicious!

I love how accommodating Disney is for people with allergies and special needs. One of my friends is heading down for their families first trip and her son has CP and a few other health issues including food allergies. She had never thought of a trip to Disney out of fear but is really excited now that she has heard how magical Disney makes it for people with special needs.

And be sure to give yourselves a pat pat pat on the back back back for a job well done! (That's what we do around here after we clean up the playroom:laughing:) When you are good parents it shows in your children! I think more parents need to instill some values and manners in their little ones these days.

Hey Kimmy!! :goodvibes

Isn't it funny how words can be said so differently in some parts of Canada and the U.S.?? I mean, we are all speaking the same language - too funny!!!

Disney really is great about allergies! So helpful and accommodating! The chefs are all just super (at least the ones we had speaks with were!). Disney is the best vacay destination for people with food allergies! :)

HA! We did that at one of the daycares that I worked at too! We did it a sing songy kind of way and added a jump or a twirl on the end!! FUN!!! :)

What a lovely evening!!! We usually have to drag Maddie out of the pool too. She's such a little fish! Your dinner pictures are making me quite hungry. Everything looked very good. Now, we live up North, but we say pe-cahn. I don't know about everyone else in Buffalo, but that's how my family says it. I guess it all depends on how your specific family says things.

We are going to Orlando 6/12-20. We are staying at the Polynesian for 4 days, then we are moving to Royal Pacific at Universal for 4 days. I've been excited for a while now:cloud9:

I had to laugh about the pronuniciation of pecan. I didn't know you could pronounce it any other way except the "southern way":rotfl: You learn something new every day.

Great update! Your meal really does look good! That was so nice of the waiter to acknowledge your girls' behavior. :goodvibes

Unless of course you are Paula Deen who is as southern as southern can be and she pronounces it PEE-can...so if Paula Deen can do it, you can do it Kim!!!!

Loved this update! I'm so tempted to make a reservation at Boatwrights based on your dinner alone, those medallions and sweet potatoes (I'm a sucker for sweet potatoes) looked amazing!

I'm glad the girls had such a great time in the pool!! The themed pool at POFQ is very very nice!

I think our next trip will be all about relaxing! Swim as long as they want to, eat whenever we want to, play some mini putt, do some sight seeing at some of the other resorts and just hang out!! The parks will be our secondary thing - I think ;) :lmao:

It WAS so scrumptious!! popcorn:: Good behaviour (especially when tired AND hungry) deserves to be noticed!! ;)

HEY JENNY!!!!! So nice of you to drop by!! :goodvibes We LOVED POFQ!!! Next time we stay there it will be nice to spend some time and actually REST and relax!! I felt like we were hardly even there!

CHAPTER 11 – Breakfast in Paradise!

The morning dawned a bit cloudy this day and we were fully expecting it to rain at some point. We slowly got up on this morning as we were not expected at out breakfast ADR until after 10am!

As usual none of us really slept in. I think we were all up and going by 7:30! I sent Ken to Sassagoula for coffee and beignets while the girls and I got dressed and prettied up! Our receipts from that transaction tell me he was at the food court at 8:15!

Having read so much about them and hearing so many differing opinions about them, I was quite anxious to discover for myself the mystery of the beignet!

DSC04493.jpg

I will not spoil the mystery for you but let me just say this – Beignets are best consumed when hot!

I am pretty sure we left our room around 9am and caught the bus to MK. We then walked over the Monorail platform and caught the resort Monorail to The Poly. Yes, we were going to have breakfast at 'Ohana!!

The pictures I have from the monorail ride are time stamped at 945am. I believe our ADR was for around 10;25am.

We arrived at the Poly and I immediately went over the podium to check us in for our breakfast. The waiting area was packed so I knew that we would probably be waiting for a little bit!

We found some seats and proceeded to wait for our pagers to alert us that our table was ready! While we were waiting I seem to remember that Ken and the girls did a bit of a walk around to some of the shops. Ken was hoping to find a new Hawaiian shirt! His motto for this type of shirt is “the more garish it is: the more I like it!”.

I believe we were paged at about 10:30 because the next bunch of pictures are time stamped at around 10:40. We were brought to our table by our “cousin” Mickey – not be confused by the Mouse! He was so nice and kind and helpful. He brought us out our coffee and juice and very soon the characters began to show up!

DSC04508.jpg

We LOVE “Ohana!!! We ate supper there last year and now breakfast this year! I think that 'Ohana has become a must do for us from now on! We really enjoyed both meals! I really enjoyed and appreciated the Family-Style method of serving the food they have there! So much better than having to get up every time you want more! It is also so much easier when dealing with characters!

The girls were very excited about the characters at this breakfast! They had their autograph book open and ready as soon as they sat down! First came Lilo, then Stitch, My favourite Mouse came next closely followed by his best pal, Pluto!

We enjoyed our food very much and didn't feel rushed at all as I have heard others express! We were so hungry that morning we pretty much forgot to take any pictures of the food! First brought out was the bread basket and fruit. The breads were AWESOME and the fruit was very fresh and very juicy! As others have said before me, the juice is absolutely amazing! I asked about it and Mickey (server; not Mouse) said it was a blend of Passionfruit, Orange and Guava! So GOOD!!!

Next came the hot food. A huge bowl of eggs – THE BEST EGGS EVER!!! I don't even want to think about how much salt and butter were in those!! There was also a plate of meat, potatoes, bissuits and waffles! So much food! It was ALL so yummy!! My favouirtes were the eggs and potatoes!

DSC04540.jpg

When we were close to being finished, the restaurant was beginning to clear out and the characters were coming for a second round! We were lucky enought ot have more hugs and snuggles with ALL the characters and we even had our picture taken with My Main Mouse!!

DSC04541.jpg

Soon after that the parade started and both girls joined in! The pictures are a little fuzzy sorry!

DSC04545.jpg

We gathered all our things together, hit the washrooms and then decided to take a strool around the atrium and browse the shops! Ken did not find a shirt that was gaudy enough to take home so we just poked around and enjoyed the scenery. After we finished our window shopping we decided to go down to the main entrance area and take some “nice pictures” by the waterfall!

The girls were getting pretty squirmy by that point so we were not able to get a “really nice picture”! HA!!

It was getting close to noon by that point so we decided to head outside for a bit of a stroll around the grounds on our way to the TTC!! We were going to try to be at EPCOT for around 1pm!

As soon as we walked out the doors near Captain Cooks to head to the pool area all of us said, at almost the same time - “We should stay here sometime!” How BEAUTIFUL!!!

What an amazing location, beautiful scenery, wonderful food, tremendous transportaion options! As Mary Poppins says – practically perfect in every way!! I do believe that our family will be staying there someday!

We were slightly delayed in our attempt to depart the Poly. Without names and ALL the gory details I will explain why. There was a little girl who waited too long to use the washroom. This resulted in a trip back to the Main building to make a purchase of new undergarments! Nuff said!

We finally found our way to the TTC and the EPCOT Monorail at about 12:30pm. We were ready to Test some Tracks, Soar over California and wind our way around the world!! Epcot, here we come!

Great update Kim!!!

You are absolutely right, the Poly is simply gorgeous! Both times I have gone there I have LOVED it and I have dreams of us staying there someday too. Maybe for a 10 yr. vow renewal!!!:rolleyes1

Breakfast at Ohana's sounds like a lot of fun! I have done dinner but not breakfast but I think I will have to rectify that in the future!! Great pictures!!!

We also love the Ohana breakfast! It's so much easier to do family style at the character meals.
I still want to stay at the Poly someday too. DH says after BC that might change. Partly because I love WS at Epcot and being so close might spoil me!
Those beignets look yummy. I've heard they're best hot as well. Have yet to try them.

Your update got me SO excited for our Sept trip! I just have to try those beignets!!! I love things that are covered in powdered sugar! We've never eaten at 'Ohana and we're having breakfast there on our last morning. I also like the family style meals because you don't have to rush to get your food and then rush back to the table! I also can't wait to explore the Poly a bit too. It's just so beautiful!

That sounds like a GREAT idea to me!!! Now you just gotta convince the preacher! ;) Are you guys still looking at DVC??

I think that if we ever stayed BC or another Epcot area resort within walking distance I would totally haunt EPCOT every day!!! :lmao: You should definitely try Beignets sometime - they are an experience! :thumbsup2

Just started reading your TR this morning and read the entire thing in one sitting. It is completely amazing. Sounds like ya'll had a great trip. I especially enjoy Ken's added commentary, it gives a little extra insight into what my DH is thinking. And your review of the 'Ohana breakfast was great. I've heard about it but haven't seen any recent reviews.

Can't wait to read more.:goodvibes

Well, Thank you, SO MUCH!!! :goodvibes I just love hearing that people enjoy reading this TR!!! I am so glad you found us! My poor hubby has been so busy as of late that he hasn't had too many chances to post on here lately! :upsidedow He says he will try to catch up soon! :) I am determined to finish this TR before my kiddos are out of school for the summer!! That gives me exactly 1 more month!!

I was slow catching up this time!

I love the gators at the POFQ pool! Dinner looks delicious, and we say Pee-can in Buffalo as well. Oh well.

We ate at Ohana last time and I loved it so much. Next time we get a sit-down meal, it will probably be there.

And you have more self-restraint than we do, we can't make it out of the poly without emptying their gift shops.

Waiting too long to get to the potty is never good! At least now you own some very overpriced (I'm sure) disney underwear!

I love the picture with the monorail sign. Those looks say, "Can we just get going already? Why do you need ANOTHER picture?"

Great updates!

I love your pictures, especially the one with the whole family and Mickey (mouse, not server, lol).
