Lightsabers, Mouse Kisses and a Man in a Lucky Shirt! A January 2010 TR

We are going to Disneyland this time from Oct 17-23 so pretty close to halloween :stir: I am hoping for somegood weather...the last 2 trips to Flordia have been closer there than igt was here :confused3 So hopefully California will give us some good weather :lovestruc

WOW!!! I would LOVE to go to Disneyland someday! A little bit farther for us! Someday perhaps..... :)

I need to make rope drop at AK...I didn't know if they did a "show" there or not, but apparently they do!

I love FOTLK too, it's such an amazing show!

Great pictures with Pocahontas and Thumper and Miss Bunny...I've never met any of them! Too bad you didn't get the bunnies autographs. Next time!

Animal Kingdom is so often overlooked, I'm glad to read about your day there. Too bad you chickened out for EE though! (Not that I've ever ridden it...it opened like 2 weeks later in 2006 and I was pregnant in 2008!)

I live on the other end of the country from you :rotfl: so Disneyland is so much closer and SOOOO much cheaper for us to fly too! I went to Disneyland almost every year as a kid (we would drive) but I haven't been since I met my DH :sad2: It has always been a dream of my parents to take the Grandkids to Disneyland so we are all going together! It should be fun :goodvibes

I KNOW!!! What's up with that??? I totally just can't wrap my head around that backwards part! I think it would totally mess me up for the rest of the day! Not sure if it is worth the risk?! :confused3

I understand... my DH is the same way... he doesn't want to ruin the day with any queasiness! Can't say as I blame you!

Kathy

It is definitely different than RNRC. I could ride RNRC all day. But when DS10 made me ride EE 2 times in a row I was done! :upsidedow Must be the backwards thing!

Yes, Animal Kingdom is definitely a take your time and smell the roses kind of park! I like it because it forces me to let go of my commando-ness and just enjoy the scenery and things around me!

Hope you guys have a GREAT trip!!! :goodvibes I would LOVE to hear all about it - I really do want to go there some day! :) Our neighbours down our street are Disneyland lovers and had their first trip to WDW this year and they were NOT very impressed with WDW as a whole! Still much prefer the Original! :confused3 I'd be interested to hear your comparison! :goodvibes

I understand... my DH is the same way... he doesn't want to ruin the day with any queasiness! Can't say as I blame you!

Kathy

Maybe I will try it next time just so I can know for sure and be able to say that I have done it! My sister and her family are at WDW RIGHT NOW and my 6 yr old nephew went on it and LOVED it!!! I CANNOT be bested by a 6 yr old!

It is definitely different than RNRC. I could ride RNRC all day. But when DS10 made me ride EE 2 times in a row I was done! :upsidedow Must be the backwards thing!

How was the first ride?? Did you do okay the first time?? :)

Hey Friends! :goodvibes

I will do me very best to get to the rest of our Animal Kingdom day very soon! I would like to give Ken a chance to comment on the last bit before I continue!

Thanks for being so patient! :thumbsup2

Your AK days sounds perfect so far! Love Thumper and Miss Bunny!
I love Primeval Whirl too, I wished it spinned more - :rotfl:

I really like it too! :) The only part that freaks me out a teensy bit is when you go around that one corner and it feels like you are going to go off the edge! :scared1: I totally had to close my eyes at that part! :ssst:

I have been on it several times before. But only once at a time. And that is fine. But this was the first time I went 2X in a row. :upsidedow Not a good idea! :rotfl:

Good to know! :) :thumbsup2 I will keep that under advisement! Perhaps next time I will take off my chicken suit and actually ride it!

Chapter 6: Gettin' a little Wild!!!

After such a late night we decided that we would NOT be setting the alarm for the morning. We decided that we would attemp to sleep in a bit and get to Animal Kingdom when ever we happened to get there!

It didn't work. All of us were awake by 7:30!
Yes. This I blame on the other 3 getting up and turning on lights and saying inane sentences like “Get up sleepyhead.”

I have come to the sad conclusion that my family just can not sleep in on vacation! Well since we were up we decided to try to make Rope Drop! It worked! We arrived at Animal Kingdom at exactly 8:30! We leisurely strolled
Approximately 2.24 m/s or 5 mph

from the bus over to the entrance gates and on the way we were treated to a neat experience! There was a CM standing around with an Ostrich egg! Fun!

”Honey, take the picture so we can get to the rope. Did you take the picture yet?”
DSC04158.jpg

DSC04159.jpg

Not sure if Emily was going to ask me to make an omelette of it. The little girl in the background has the best expression though….

The girls were thrilled to see it and touch it and learn about Ostriches and their eggs! When they were done there we went over to the turnstiles. We were definitely NOT first in line today
but the crowds didn't seem to be that bad.

Seriously, I wonder if this is one of DIS boarder’s favourite rides, the rope drop, with the best seat being in front…

We were let through at about 8:45 and managed to get a fairly good spot about 5 people deep from the rope and we actually got to see the opening show this time! VERY CUTE!!! It is always a great start to the day when I get to see my favourite mouse!

DSC04163.jpg

I wish Mickey had an Aussie accesnt for that costume. “A wounded mosquito is a dangerous animal…”

When the rope dropped the girls and I linked arms and headed to Dinoland USA while Ken went in search of Fast Passes for EE!! The girls and I rode Triceratops Spin about 4 times in a row without having to get off! Natalie was in heaven! Emily was only a bit chagrinned as she had to wait for Dad to get back so she could ride Primevil Whirl!

I was walking at 2.68 m/s but it apparently wasn’t fast enough…

Since Ken had the camera and I did not, Here are some of the lovely pictures he took while on his journey to Asia! He is quite the photographer! He did some research on to proper settings and lighting techniques before our trip and it really did pay off! He took some amazing photos!
I am much in gratitude for the compliments of my wife and others on this. I read some articles from one of the Disney magazines which provided the assistance needed to understand the camera settings. Just like everyone is an above average driver, I like to imagine I’m an above average photographer. I’m glad the camera doesn’t keep track of how many pictures I deleted to get these right…

The joy of an empty area of the park. It was really this serene and vacant.

After he rejoined us in Dinoland, He and Emily rode PW 2x
(Ow, my hips)
and then we decided to go see the 10am Lion King Show! On the way to the theatre we came upon Pocahontas standing around with NO LINE!!! The girls had not had a chance to meet her yet so they were very excited!
Pocohontas is an intriguing character to meet at Disney for us. We live in a blended demographic where the First Nations/Aboriginal/Native/Indian population is prominent. I’ve been in a pow-wow and seen the ceremonial dress, and our local major attraction prides itself on the authenticity of period (19th century) native culture. It’s easier to disconnect and say she’s a character rather than a representative of that culture.

Nat looks like she just snuck a candy. Or else someone is sneaking up to scare me from behind…
DSC04182.jpg

DSC04185.jpg

It’s so nice when Emily relaxes and just smiles. She’s at that self-conscious age where she holds her grins back.

When we arrived at the theatre, it was not even half full yet so we asked the CM at the door where would be a GREAT place to sit! She pointed us in the direction of the LION section! We managed to get some SWEET seats! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

We discussed when we wanted to see the show. I said morning because I remember how busy it was last year. I wanted GOOD seats. Good idea.

continued in next post.....

:woohoo:

This is a show that will continue to be a must do for our family! It is probably my favourite of all the shows at WDW!!! Simple EXCELLENT!!! The girls were both invited to join in with the parade but Em didn't want to so Nat went by herself! She LOVES doing stuff like this!

I liked the show better the first time because I was trying to listen to the story more. This time I was attending to the dancing, costuming, sets and performance and it wasn’t as enjoyable. It went by too quick and blended together.

When the show was over we headed out of the theatre and immediately saw Thumper and Miss Bunny! More new characters for us!!! Sweet! I had to make a mad dash for the washroom so I didn't have a chance to remind the girls about their autograph book. So it turned out that we have some very nice photos of the characters but no autographs!

How do you tell a girl bunny from a boy? The eyelashes. That’s it folks.
DSC04221.jpg

DSC04222.jpg

Because we spotted them first there was a growing line behind me as I snapped the pictures.

Emily was just about dying to ride Primeveil Whirl again so she and I went back to Dinoland to do that while Ken and Natalie went to procure some Fast Passes for Kali River Rapids! I LOVE Primevil Whirl!! It is so much fun!!! A bit herky Jerky but oh so much fun! After we were done there we went in search of Ken and Natalie!
As I drove Natalie forward to get to the fastpasses in time and get back I became aware of the raised monkey exhibit along the way. Then I recalled what monkeys throw. I now wonder if that has ever happened to someone…

You see, Emily and I were supposed to have ridden EE with some of the Fast passes but at the last minute we both chickened out! She has ridden it before but I have not! I thought I could do it but that backwards part has me freaked out! I am not afraid, per se, I am just not convinced that the ride itself is worth feeling naucious for the better part of a day! I don't get bad motion sickness, I just can't handle backwards stuff!

Please no throwing. Please.
DSC04224.jpg

DSC04225.jpg

I waited there about 15 minutes with a tired but bored child waiting for them to return. After seeing people enter and subsequently exit the ride I became a little suspicious. Yes, they went and rode Primeveil Whirl one more time while we sat watching people say “That was awesome, I’m going again!” Not even a single sick person to provide entertainment. All the while I became quite concerned about our next appointment. I didn’t have a watch so I took pictures to check the time stamp. I’m certain I’m now on a Disney watch list as a result.
So we found Ken and Nat waiting for us near the exit to EE and then we all hot footed
2.68 m/s it over to Flame Tree Barbeque! It was time for some food and a VERY SPECIAL DIS MEET!!! I wonder who it will be?????
Hopefully someone with a respirator after all that speedwalking…

:)

Now, where was I.... Oh yes, I was just about to tell who our DIS meet was with!!! Have you guessed who it was???

It was.......

MONNY2AE!!!

DSC04232.jpg

Yes, I got to meet the sweet and wonderful Kimmy G! She and I had gone through about 3 different scenarios in an attempt to meet up with one another and finally decided that our Animal Kingdom day would work out the best! The origianl plan was to meet at Flame Tree at about 11:30 and have lunch together! It didn't quite work out that way!

We arrived a few minutes early and decided to go ahead and get into line for our food! When we had our food, there was still no sign of Kim and her family so we decided to go and find a table and then I would come back out to front to wait for them! Well, we got about half way down the oath to the seating area and I suddenly heard somebody calling my name!

It turns out that their family had slept in and had a late breakfast and were not quite ready to eat lunch yet! She was also not feeling vey well. Poor girl had a major sinus infection and a bad headache! We chatted for a few minutes anyway. I think it is quite possible that we could have stood there and talked for hours! We attempted to say good bye about 5 times! It was only when little Miss Em announced that she had to go potty that we were able to finally say goodbye! What a wonderful lady!

I rejoined my family and sat down to eat my now somewhat cold lunch! I had really been looking forward to trying this food. It always looked so good in other peoples pictures and the reviews for the food were very favourable. I am very disappointed to say that I did not enjoy it! The chicken was VERY greasy. Odd for baked chicken. The beans were okay and the coleslaw was too runny for my liking. You have to know that I am NOT a picky eater. The key lime stuff was good but not as amazing as I been told it was! I may give this place another try but I will eat something different next time!

DSC04236.jpg

When we were finished Ken went to get some FP's for Kilimanjaro Safari and to have a ride on EE and I took the girls to the Boneyard to blow off some steam! I gave the girls the mantra of “Stay together, Stay Together, Stay Together” and sent them on their way to have some fun while I parked myself on a crate to try to watch them! Ken rejoined us after about 25 minutes and at about 1 pm we decided that it was warm enough to warrant a spin on Kali!

Well, for him and Emily at least! I DO NOT ENJOY GETTING WET WHILE wearing clothes! Not fun for me! Nat wasn't too sure about it either so she and I went into Africa to do some window shopping while Ken and Em enjoyed getting wet!

Well wet they did get and they had so much fun doing it that they decided to do it twice! There was absolutely no wait whatsoever! They hopped off and hopped right back on again!

They finally found us near the entrance to KS and they were drenched! TOTALLY!!! They also wore great big smiles athat told me that they loved every minute of it! Good for them!

It was now just about 1:30 and our Fastpasses for Kilimanjaro Safaris were good so we used those even though there was only a 5 minute standby wait! Seriously, there were NO CROWDS at AK that day! With the exception of EE, pretty much everything was a walk on!

Kilimanjaro Safari was fun and Ken was able to take quite a few great shots of some of the animals! Natalie was absolutely thrilled to pieces to see her beloved Giraffes! Our safari vehicle got stuck behind some slow moving Ostriches and our driver had to radio ahead that we were going “POLI POLI” coming up to the bridge! We actually got to experience the collapsing bridge this time! When we rode it last year it didn't do the collapsing part! Kinda fun!

After we finished the Safari we decided to take the train over to Conservation Station! What an awesome experience! The train ride over is only about 5 minutes and the driver talks about stuff the whole way and you actually get to see some of the barns that house the animals at night! Too Cool! We took our time and enjoyed all there was to see and do at this part of the park. The girls were invited to do a scavenger hunt in a little backyard setting. They enjoyed it very much. We walked the trail to the main building and took the time to read the signs along the way about conservation and environmental impact. Very informational.

DSC04272.jpg

DSC04273.jpg

We went into the main building and got to meet some more characters. Pocahontas, Rafiki and Jiminy Cricket were there.! Since we had already met Pocahontas we just did the others. Rafiki was soo funny! He played hid and seek with the girls around some of the signs and made motions for for them to put a penny into the wishing pond!

DSC04277.jpg

DSC04278.jpg

DSC04291.jpg

We also went into one of the little listening stations and heard a little presentation about the Rain forests! Neat! When we were done in there we went out back to the Petting station! This was so much fun! The girls absolutely loved it and asked why we hadn't come here last year! I think they would have been very happy to hang out there for a very long time to pet and brush the sheep, goats and other animals! We will definitely make that place a priority on a future trip! Before we left I made sure to use the washroom so I could see the “Scoop on Poop” signs on the back of the stall doors! So fun!

DSC04289.jpg

We took the train back to Africa and decided to get a snack! It was just 3:20 at this time and we were ready for some ice cream! As we headed over the bridge to Discovery Island we were stopped by a CM. He asked if we were planning on staying in the park for the parade! We said that Yes we were. He then asked if we would like to be IN the parade! TOTALLY!!! He took down our names and told us where to meet him at 4:15pm!

We walked away in a bit of a daze! We finally found a snack stand that sold more than ice cream (remember Nat can't eat it) spent some credits on 2 ice cream bars and 2 fruit juice bars and then found a place to hang out for a few minutes. Before we knew it, it was time to go and meet James (the CM) at the meeting spot to prepare for our Debut in the Animal Kingdom parade!

continued in next post.....

Chapter 6: Part 4: Still MORE Animal Kingdom.....

We found our way to the parade staging area entrance and were soon joined by a few other families and a group of NEW Cast Members who were just starting their time at Disney! We have no photos of the next little while as we were asked not to take phots as Disney DOES NOT want guests to see the “Back Stage Area”! I will just tell you though that it is so cool! Nuff said!

Once everybody was present anmd accounted for we were taken into the backstage parade “staging” area. We were assigned lockers in which to store our personal belongings, given earplugs to wear on the floats and given our safari gear! We got to wear these really cute vests and hats!

We were then taken to the float on which we would be riding! Ours was a bird of some kind! We were directly in front of Minne's float with Chip and Dale betwen us! We were introduced to our “Dancers” and told that Minnie would be on her float very soon! This excited Natalie to no end as Miss Minnie Mouse is her Absolute Favourite character!!! She kept turning around to check and see if Minnie had arrived yet!

All too soon it was time for the parade to start! We put our earplugs in as the music started and made sure our seatbelts were securely fastened! Our driver started to pedal and WE. WERE. OFF. At just as fast of a pace as our bicycle rider driver bird guy could go!

DSC04294.jpg

DSC04295.jpg

I really have a new found respect for parade performers! To do the EXACT same thing day after day after day after day would get REALLY boring for me! Even At Disney!!! These people have to be “ON” ALL DAY LONG!!! They give 110% of themselves at EVERY single performance! I was bored of waving, laughing and smiling after about 10 minutes! I don't think I have done THAT much smiling since our wedding day! My face HURT after about 45 minutes of continuous smiling! But WHAT a great experience!!!

Image0576.jpg

Image0590.jpg

Image0591.jpg

Image0594.jpg

We were given a disposable camera to take some of our own pics and we did but they didn't turn out so great. We were also given a VERY SPECIAL photopass card! All along the route there were photopass photographers taking pictures OF US AND FOR US!!! Even though we didn't get to “SEE” the parade, we have GREAT pictures of nearly EVERY float! ALL taken by Disney Photopass Photographers!!!

We arrived back at the staging area at about 5:20 or so and were led off our float and back to the lockers where we exchanged our vests and hats for our personal belongings and then we were allowed to stand in a secure area to watch the rest of the parade finish!

It was really neat to watch as all the characters, dancers, performers and floats came in! We waved and danced along to the music and enjoyed a little bit of the parade that we had not been able to watch!!

When the last float was in the big doors were closed and we were shown our way out! It was past park closing time and all the shops were closed and there were no photopass photographers to be found. ANYWHERE!!! So, alas, we have only 2 photos of our family at the park that day! Oh well! Just another reason of many for yet another trip someday!

We made our way out of the park and actually had a lady offer to take a family picture for us!! Thanks Lady!! We found our way to our bus and had a mostly quiet ride back to POFQ!!!

Great comments by Ken and SUPER CUTE photopass pictures!!!! :thumbsup2
You guys look like you are havin SO MUCH FUN!!!! What a great family vacation! Your TR always makes me smile and laugh. Thank you!

HI SHEREE!!! :goodvibes

I am so glad that my family and I can be a source of levity to your day!!! Hope that you are having a GREAT one!!!

Great photopass pics!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the new borders and such for 2010!!!

Hey Meghan!!! :)

As far as I could tell, there really were not all that many NEW ones!! There were a lot for birthdays and celebrations - ones that didn't apply to our trip! I will be sure to include one of the ones from MK that has the 2010 banner on it!

I'm having so much fun catching up with your TR! Fantastic pics! :thumbsup2 I loved the Photopass ones - you really got some great shots of the family in those.
