Lightsabers in the Parks

I just returned yesterday from Disneyland, it was great, except for the numerous times I was accidentally whacked by a small child wielding a lightsaber. I swear, every child under the age of 12 had one, which is fine, I understand the excitement around Star Wars, but I am not a fan of being hit while standing in a line, while waiting for a parade, or when just walking from one place to another. Should Disneyland do something about this?

They try. When you purchase the ones not in the package, they tape up the ends and tell you not to remove the tape until you're out of the park. Not sure what more they can do. Until some kid is swinging them around on a ride. Then they'll get banned like selfie sticks.

Better safe than sorry. Disney Parks are quickly becoming a no chill zone.

There's audio and video surveillance not to mention security walking the parks.

Also CM's are on alert to notify when things don't look quite right.
Give them a reason to dismiss you from the park and they'll likely do it.

DH got one for himself and each of our DD's. He and oldest DD got the double one. I swear it's as tall as they are! I wish they were on a smaller scale. IDK if DL will enforce not swinging them around, though. That's free advertising for the next kid to want one, too.

Funny, I'm highly irritable and would totally notice it, but not once did I get hit by a light saber.

I had read too about they are taped when you buy them and you are not allowed to open them in the parks - security should simply take care of this when kids return to the park with their light saber - honestly the average parent does not watch their kids - I am an annoying parent as I always tell my kids to smarten up so as not to bug other people - now they are old enough to know better - but whether it's in line, or at a pool, you often see oblivious parents with obnoxious kids.

That was my thought, security should not be letting people back in with them. if bubble guns were banned then long sticks should be as well!

Unfortunately I have to agree with this statement. And unfortunately one is subjected to it in force at places like Disneyland. I guess it's just to teach us all patience and the rest of us more diligent parents to keep up the good work in teaching our children awareness.

When we were there a couple of weeks ago, my DS got a Kylo Ren lightsaber. When we went to pay for it, the CM asked us if we wanted it taken out of the packaging (a service they were providing). So...it seems like they are encouraging kids to play with the toys while still in the park, right?

I checked out lightsaber when we got to DCA, as I couldn't figure out what we were going to do with it on Screamin'. Seems just as bad as a selfie stick to me. No?

Definitely depends on parents. My son has built a new lightsaber at Star Traders on each of our last 3 trips. I don't let him extend it until we are out of the park.
