lightsaber pencil ideas

My son has to decorate standard pencils and sell them as part of a 3rd grade economics project. He is hoping to make his pencils look like lightsabers. Does anyone have any creative ideas or experiences with making pencils look like lightsabers?

My immediate thoughts:

Tin foil for the base...

Reflective tape, glow paint, glow sticks (the necklace/bracelet kind they sell in the dollar store), or some sort of metallic paper for the rest of it?

maybe you can get pencils in solid colors (red, blue, green, purple).
Cover the end (close to the eraser not whre you sharpen) with duct tape so it is "silver." Add sticker buttons-you may be able to find glitter shapes (like circles, diamonds) for the light saber control buttons. You may also be able to find thinner duct tape to wrap with stripes both horizntally and vertically.

How about these? I saw them at dollar tree. Theyre kind of shiny and holographic. Maybe you could wrap foil or something around one end for the handle?

Solid colored pencils is a good idea. Maybe for the handle you could use a metallic sharpie, and a black sharpie for details? Add foam circles for a button that pops out.
