I'm still struggling with the whole Light Room versus PhotoShop CS3 debate. I really like PhotoShop and just don't know if Light Room would offer me anything that I don't get with PhotoShop.
What are the noticeable changes in the upgrade to Light Room?
i pretty much bite at lightroom, that's how bad i am. i tried it because someone had mentioned it as a quick fix for exposure problems which i've occasionally had problems with. in the past, i tried to manually fix it (in paintshop pro) via brightness and contrast, but it's not the same and i've never had any luck with it.
it definitely helps
original:
exposure correction via lightroom
the only problem i've encountered is just changing the exposure correction isn't enough as it distorts the colors some. for example, another photo (i don't have the original uploaded)

so it just seems a little over saturated(?) which i could easily fix with lightroom, it just takes some practice.
i think i'll stick to trying to get the photos right to begin with.. but my camera does tend to overexpose sometimes (especially when i forget to switch modes )
It is a great book, I have it too. But it may be worthwhile to wait and see when a v1.1 will be published. I heard that a pdf add-on will be available soon, but I like having everything in print bound under the same cover.
Photoshop and Lightroom are kind of apples and oranges.
You can get the first few chapters of the lynda.com tutorial here, it's not bad though the instructor does tend to get sidetracked talking about his kids or other things occasionally.
You will probably need some kind of training or book to get the most out of Lightroom.
