Have any Lightroom users tried the LR4 beta yet?

From the preview videos I like the new Maps module and the simplified Basic developed sliders are peaking my interest.

Still not sure if I want to try the beta until I hear some of the bugs.

Downloaded it this morning but didn't get the chance to do any experimenting with it yet.

WOW! I've been waiting FOREVER for Lightroom 4 to come out! Can't wait to try out the new beta version.

I just watched some of the "what's new" videos on the Photoshop User link above (thanks, ssanders79!). I'm really excited about the enhancements to the Develop module, extra sliders on the Adjustment Brush, loading DNG files slightly faster, the option to make photo books right inside Lightroom, and most of all (at least for me) GEOTAGGING!!!

I haven't gone through the entire list of new things in Lightroom 4, but at least these are the major things that I'm really excited about for the next version.

btw, here's the link to the Adobe website, if you want to download the beta version of Lightroom 4 to see for yourself: link to Adobe

I was up at midnight and participated in a Google+ hangout where Matt Kloskowski was showing the new features (look on http://vidcastnetwork.com for the recording).

I'm an Aperture 3 user and I like it. I also like many features in Lightroom, but it's just not worth the effort for me to port thousands of photos and metadata from one Digital Asset Manager (DAM) to another, unless there is a really killer feature set.

While I found some cool tools in LR4 Beta, I don't see that killer feature here. In fact, many of the features are just catching up to Aperture 3 (books, maps, email from within LR, etc.). I don't mean that as an insult to LR, as the Aperture 3 upgrade had to catch up with plenty of LR features. These two products go back and forth, so I expect to see more in the next release of Aperture.

If you're already a Lightroom user, this looks like a good upgrade. If you're an Aperture user, the new features won't be enough to sway you because you already have many of them.

I'm really worried about performance. My laptop is old in terms of computer life (5yrs) and some of the newer plugins will just not run on my system (mostly because of the video card). LR3 runs just fine, but I do not want to paint myself into a corner by upgrading to LR4.

Any idea if you can have both LR3 & LR4b installed at the same time?

Yes, you can run both at the same time. They use different catalogs. Since this is a beta, you'd do best to hang on to your existing LR3 setup and just play with the new one. Some of the improvements in LR4 are not backward compatible to LR3 - such as the changes from Recovery to Highlights/Shadows.

Thanks. I remember something like this with the LR3 beta, but I was not worried about my laptop performance back then.

I hope your old lap top is running Windows Vista or Windows 7 because Lightroom 4 does not run on Windows XP.

I played with the beta a little today while I watched Kelby's live webcast.

The book feature is a great addition that has been missing for long time! But that feature was a little buggy for me today.
