I have a few questions, My MOM is a Smoker and coming with us on our Dec trip.
We leave MHT at 7.25 ( checking by 6am ) and arrving TPA at 1.09 , We have a
stop in Atlanta for 1hr 15 mins. Will she have time for a smoke and will she be able to
have Cigarettes and lighter/matches in her carry-on ? If not i figure she will be 8 hours
without one.. Any help would be great.. Thanks Michelle

9/19 -- just got an E-mail response from Delta ..
1.Kids under 18 will not have to show ID
2.You CAN have matches/lighters in your carry-on
3.You can have gamesboys and tape/cd player
Hope this helps.. Michelle

Lighters, matches and certain aerosol cans xxxcorrection made herexxx have been forbidden from baggage at least since the time all flights became non-smoking, and it would be a good idea for security to ferret out these things more conscienciously and confiscate them. They are more dangerous than knives.

If there is a smoking area within walking distance, it is OK to have a smoke while waiting to change planes, hopefully it will be in a bar or somwhere someone would be able to give you a light.

It is not a good idea to go beyond the security check for that group of gates because it may take some time to get back in.

Guess she'd better go see a our DR before we go to get the Patches LOL...

I was on the Delta Website this am and they didn't say anything about this
so if anyone who is a Smoker who has flown since the disaster has a comment
please let me know.. Thanks

I know a smoker who flew this morning. He does not carry lighters because they have been taken away from him in the past. He does carry matches and he called in and reported that nothing was taken. His carryon was searched.

Actually, that is not true. Here are some quotes from the South West Airlines website.

"Matches and lighters may be carried on your person. However, "strike anywhere" matches, lighters with flammable liquid reservoirs, and lighter fluid are forbidden."

"Personal care items containing hazardous materials (e.g., flammables, aerosols) totaling no more than 70 ounces may be carried onboard. Contents of each container may not exceed 16 fluid ounces."

This information is still on their website as of this morning. Maybe the rules have changed and they haven't edited their website yet, but matches and lighters and hairspray, etc. WERE all allowed, at least as of last week.

My DH ALWAYS carried lighters with him when he traveled. He normally flies Delta or Continental. Maybe they've just been lax in the past? He never placed these items in his bags but had them in his pocket.

We are using Delta sorry don't think i posted which airline we were on.. I am hoping she won't have a problem as i don't want to witness a "nicotine fit" LOL .. I have been telling her for months she need to quit now maybe she will.. Thanks everyone
