Light up lanyard?

Not sure where to post this question.. I never know where to post my questions... I'm smart like that... but....

I'm collecting pins for my niece for our trip waaaaaaaaaaay in the future and I"d like to get her a lanyard. I love the light up one that's out for the 50th celebration.. but how does that work as far as pins being stuck through it? Wouldn't they hit a cord and make it not work? Anybody have this lanyard? Opinions? Like I said.. I'm not the sharpest tool in the castle
