I was just remembing doing a cross country vacation with my cousin back in 1997, and one stop was Disneyland. That was my one and only visit to Disneyland (so far). I still remember watching Light Magic and thinking it was one of the best Night Parades I had seen. There was so much more interaction with the crowd than Spectro or Night Time Electrical. I just thought it had so many neat qualities to it. How it had the screens on the floats that showed clips from Disney movies, tons of characters on and off the floats, and the confetti ending pixiedust: .
It was too bad it didn't seem to catch on; I heard there were several problems with it or something like that.
Anyways just wondering if anyone remembers it as being pretty good, or if it was just that I got caught up in the whole traveling excitement thing :teeth: .
If they could work everything out it would be nice to see again (not likely but one can hope).

I remember it, and personally loved it. But the general consensus disagreed with me. I wish I had pictures of it... gonna check my mom's photo albums and see if she has any.

Oh WOW!!!! I've never even heard of this parade before. I'm seriosuly cursing our first Disney trip wasn't to the DLR because had it been, we would have seen this magical :wizard: parade!!

Why on earth didn't people like it? It's looks fantastic!!

The music is too catchy!! ;)

Thanks SO much for sharing rer1972!! :thumbsup2 I'm gonna be searching endlessly for a full video of it now. ;)

It was a nice and beautiful parade. But, a horrible concept. It only did the "light magic" in certain area. I was there the year it came out.

You lucky thing you!! Did it not have other things going on in between where the whole Light Magic thing happened like other parades do?

No, it didn't. So, if you weren't in the right spot then you didn't get to see the light magic. I think I may still have a map from when we went and it tells you the prime stops ro be seated to see the magic.

Ahhh, that sucks!! I guess the areas where it happened were packed then? NOT good. Well, it looked like an amazing parade, if you had prime seating.

spazzyjazzy is right the parade would stop to do a showing, the move on to another area. It was a really neat show though. Someone out there has the whole parade recorded, but I couldn't find the full version. If anyone can find it let me know.

Those of us unlucky enough to not be near the stopping points were treated to a show of the tightly closed floats zipping by at 10 mph to the next location. I was, shall we say, put out. What a stupid idea for a "parade."

I remember that they were billing it as "Light Magic - the Street-tacular" and it quickly became "Light Tragic - the Suck-tacular". The AP premiere was just awful . . . they had complaint lines into City Hall that lasted until 5:30AM (no joke or exaggeration there - my sister's roommate worked City Hall that night).

From what I remember, the main physical issue was that the floats were too heavy and were sinking into Main Street. We tried watching it 3 times, and it just seemed like a bunch of freakish elf-like critters prancing around to an odd take on Riverdance. The elves scared more kids than they anticipated, I think. I remember several children screaming and bursting into tears at each performance we sat thru. Not one of the better moments in DL history.

Now I gotta look at the links provided above and see this thing again!!

ETA: Found the whole thing on visionsfantastic.com - it's quite big file to download.

DITTO!!.....I think most of us eventually settled on Fright Tragic-the Suck-tacular!! ....LOL!!!

I tried uploading the movie to several sites and it wont let me as the file is way too big. So if you want it... Message me and I will be mroe then happy to send it to you.

Thanks mystic_path :thumbsup2 .
Got to watch it and I still thought it was good. I can see how you wouldn't really enjoy it if you were not in front of an actual float. This probably would have made a better show than parade. I think this would fit in WDW's Fantasyland; kind of like Fantasmic but tinkerbell-centric.

I know what you mean. I was kind of in shock when I watched it cause its really celtic. Very different from regular disney stuff. I wonder how well that went over.
