Life vests on Castaway Cay?

I know there are life vests specifically for use at Pelican Plunge. I think kids under a certain height are required to wear them, because you have to actually swim out to the water slide, and the water out there seems pretty deep. I really don't remember seeing life vests anywhere else, but I wasn't specifically looking so I might have missed them.

I believe we were given them for free. We brought our own gear but they wouldn't let us in the water without the vests. Pretty sure we just walked up and asked for some.

They won't let you in the SNORKEL area without them, but you and your kids can get into the water anywhere else on the family beach without them.

I think the only life vests available are the ones specifically for snorkeling, and these would NOT be appropriate for a 1 year old.

To the OP.....best to bring one from home that you know will fit your child, and that you know meets safety standards.

I have read on the boards that they do have swim vests at the equipment rental and pelican plunge, no charge. [I can't find the thread, but I have it in my note for our upcoming trip.]

I can't recall about any sizes being listed, so you might want to bring your own since he is only 1.

Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know if I can use a floatie seat for DS in the water? I'm thinking this may work better than a life vest. It's an inflatable seat with an awning.

I was wondering as well. I will have a 2.5 yo and thought about bringing the puddle jumper.

From the DCL website:

Question
What items are not permitted on board?
Answer
In order to maintain a safe and secure environment for our Guests and crew, the following are examples of items that Guests are not allowed to bring on board. These and other similar items will be confiscated upon being found.
•Kites, balloons, surfboards, wave boards, inflatable floats/pools (including pool noodles), and wagons

The following items are permitted but with the following restrictions:
•Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices (PFDs) and flotation sewn into the bathing suit for safety. However, recreational floating devices such as floats, rafts and fun noodles cannot be brought on board and are not permitted in the pools or on Castaway Cay.

Yes life vests are available at the spot where you rent the snorkel gear and free. Got one for our 2 and 7 yo but not sure I they have infant ones. The one out 2 yo had was really a tad big for her. I think it was. 30-50 lb one.

That's a bummer about the puddle jumper. I can see that they wouldn't allow them in the pools onboard since they're already overcrowded, but why not on Castaway Cay?

DS is 7 months and weighs 23 pounds, so maybe the 30-50 pound vest will work but just be a bit big in 5 months.

Liability issues. CC is still part of DCL.

Are you talking about this?

If so, check the safety info on it. I think they're Coast Guard approved.

Puddle jumper life vests are allowed in the pools and at Castaway Cay. They are Coast Guard approved.

Sorry, I confused my terminology! I made the assumption that when the pp said puddle jumper she meant the inflatable seat with awning. That is what I am talking about.

Yes that's a puddle jumper. They do say coast guard approved. Glad we will be able to use in on CC.
