Lice - need help!

Thank you for all of the suggestions! Last night I i went through her hair and did not find any live lice. Whohoo! Just a few nits. Hopefully this is the end. I'll have her flat iron her hair and see if that helps. How concerned should I be about the niits? Doesn't there have to be a live one??

Yes! Nits are the hard part, because they are hard to find, hard to remove, and hatch. Our school has a no nit policy (thank goodness - ever since, there is so much less lice), and one time it took the nurse 20 minutes of searching dd's head before she found a nit (under a giant lighted magnifying glass).

I see a lot of people mentioning tea tree oil. I always place a few drops of tea tree oil in our shampoo bottles. All three of my girls have been lice free for 4 years which is amazing considering someone usually got it from school at least twice a year.

Try Quit Nits. I ordered it on Amazon. It is nontoxic. You apply it to dry hair and leave it in for a minimum of 4 hours. Cover with a shower cap. It dehydrates the lice. To prevent any reoccurrences we use Lice Shield shampoo. You can find it at Walmart. If your child gets a bug this product makes it want to leave immediately. We've been using this for four years. DD hasn't had anymore issues!

My daughters each had it a few times.

My oldest has thick long hair.

I treated her hair with the lice shampoo and then it was my job to take care of the rest.

I went thru her hair twice a day-once in the am and then again when she came home from school and actually again right before bed. Yes crazy and each took at least an hour so it seemed and a very patient child who was 5 at the first time.

I armed myself with a head lamp, well lit room although the daylight from the window was much better and tape. I also tied her hair up and worked in sections.

I went thru every strand and didn't pluck her hair but I pulled the nits out with my finger/nail and put them on the tape.

The tape was a big help when I saw a live one. I just taped the scalp and 99% of the tim I got that bugger!

It is very tedious. The first time I think it took 6 weeks to finally get rid of it. I wasn't finding as many nits but they were still there and I was surprised because I did find the crawlers. The thing that ended it was I found the big momma! As I was going thru my dds hair, her long hair/the ends flicked on my arm and I was thankful that I looked at my arm because that momma was crawling up my arm! Eeeek!

The other times it took about 2 weeks because I caught it early.

I also don't allow friends to come over or my kids to go to their friends until I don't find anything for 2 weeks.

I had luck with the Lady bugs brand elimination kit. Bought it at Great Clips, natural treatment. After we got rid of the problem, both kids shampoo with Tea Tree shampoo a couple of times a week. Hairdresser recommended it as the tea tree helps keep the live away. It does dry the scalp, so not an everyday shampoo.
