We have 6:40pm dinner reservations for Liberty Tree Tavern for group of 8. Unofficial Guide says that the walkway between Liberty Tree Tavern and Diamond Horseshoe saloon is a good vantage point. However, when looking at the map, it looks like it is behind the castle so we won't see the show on the castle?? Will we be able to see the show or just the fireworks? Or, is it not too far of a walk to get towards front of castle from Liberty Tree Tavern? Ideas... advice? Want to be able to have a good place to meet up with the other family and then see fireworks/show and exit to parking lot.

1. Nope. Not true.
2, No, not behind the castle at all. It is completely "away" from the castle area, entirely.
And, it IS defiantly BLOCKED from seeing the front of the castle and the projections of the show.
3. Fireworks only.
4. Not far at all. But, expect a very large and compacted crowd to be in front of the castle
and one that will get very large as the start-time gets closer.
5. That will take some careful planning as to where the rest of the family chooses to stand,
and certainly how late you plan on arriving to meet them in front of the castle.

You did not say at what time the fireworks show begins that night.

Oh my gosh, your response was amazing! And to include the maps, thank you!! Ok, so looking further (reading the details more LOL) it sounds like the book was saying it was a good spot for the parade/fireworks, not necessarily the show. We are going MLK week in January and our MK day is Tuesday, 1/21. We have reservations for Liberty Tree Tavern at 6:40pm for 8 (both families) so that we can have an "easy" meeting spot and rest and catch up from days activities. Then, it sounds like we will just walk over to the front area of castle and do the best we can finding a spot to watch the show. The show starts at 8pm. Tried to get dining at Tony's but all booked up. I'll keep checking back though...

Just a fair warning, they say to build in 1.5 hours for sit-downs. There could be several different things that delay your seating or service. You might not make it to the front in time and they may stop people from going to the front at a certain time either because of the crowds there or for safety reasons as they're getting ready to start the show. My dad and I got stuck behind the castle on our first visit Had great view of the fireworks but missed out on the projections.

You will be much safer (MUCH safer) if you can move your Lib. Tree reservation up to 5:40pm or earlier.
Yes, figure 90 min. for dining and a "pad" to compensate for late seating. (And, arrive at the restaurant check-in at least 30 min. early.)
There will be a lot of fireworks guests arriving at the castle Hub around 7PM, and a ton there by 7:30PM.

Ok, good to know and thanks for the heads up. I just tried finding an earlier time and nothing other than 3:30pm and 7:30pm. So, I'll keep checking in but we may have to stick with what we have and keep our fingers crossed. I'm hoping with a buffet that we can just get food right away, eat relatively quickly and then split. I'm fine with not being in the front of the castle, just don't want to be stuck behind it. Looks like Tomorrowland would be a good spot to eat in too as the walkway to the Hub area (looking at the earlier photo) but I'm not finding any table seating in tomorrowland....

Liberty Tree is not a "buffet" in the usual sense.
(There is not "serve-yourself" food line.)
The waitstaff brings the food on individual plates (some items served in larger "family-style bowls.")
Then, they bring more refills, if and when requested.
It is not a fast meal.

Oh, ok. Shoot... well, I'll just keep my eyes open for an earlier reservation to open up and keep my fingers crossed. Not sure what else to do. Would be nice to be able to sit down and get a good meal and catch up with family before the show. We could try to meet up at a counter service place in Tomorrowland I suppose somewhere... ugh. They joys.... Thank you so much for all your help!

I have done Liberty Tree several times with a group of 8. It is not fast. AT ALL. Good food though, we go every trip. You are not going to get a spot anywhere near the castle arriving 10-20 minutes ahead. You need like 30-40 minutes, especially with a larger group. Not including walking time to the area. I would be thinking that a 5pm ADR would be better. Not need to rush.

You can tell the waiter or waitress you are trying to get to the show at 8 and they will pace the meal quickly. We eat at LTT all the time and it's not an issue for the wait staff. It doesn't hurt to show up 10 minutes or so early to your ADR.

Yea, I have had zero problem getting a fantastic spot 15-20 minutes before showtime every time I've watched, but that's typically with a group size of 1-3, making it quite a bit easier. Not sure I would cut it that close with a group that big.

I will keep looking for earlier reservations but so far, no luck. We don't need to have up front access to the castle, at least I don't think so. Last time we went, literally we just walked around, found a spot to stand and watched and I think we were by a curb or something. It still was magical and amazing! I personally don't see the 4 kids just hanging around standing for up to 40 minutes prior with nothing to do. It's one think in line for a ride with cool immersive stuff but just hanging out waiting for the show, at that point in the night after a long day, not sure they (at least the younger ones) will be able to do it without making it miserable for us adults! LOL So, if nothing else, we will get a good meal, to sit down and connect, and then hoof it for the show and do the best we can.

There's a few sites (Mouse Dining and Touring Plans are just two options) where you can set alerts to when a dining reservation might open up but you have to be on top of it as other people do the same thing.
