After much debate over how to handle my families various mobility needs (3yo, 10yo with something at least similar to hypotonia in her ankles and me with plantar faciitis) I think I'm going to go with renting a Liberty Special Needs Stroller. A couple of things I was wondering...

1. I've found them at Kingdom Strollers, but was wondering if anyone else rented them as well.

2. DD10 is determined not to be a burden (my analysis anyway) and says she should be okay. Since two really active days is almost too much recently I don't think she will be fully okay with 8 trip days. I was considering trying to call mid-week if we needed it, but after talking to Kingdom I'm concerned they may not have one available. Is that a safe assumption? (mid-March trip)

3. Is there a better rental option? I'll have to have the 10yo and 3yo switch out as each needs the stroller so the Liberty seems best with a slight recline and the shade.

4. If we have a car and I'm the only adult getting us on and off of the buses am I right in assuming we'll be best off driving to the parks from PO-R even for MK?

5. Any other advice for us?

Thanks all!!

Mk is easier by bus it drops you off by the front so you dint have to get to ttc and then take monorail or ferry. sorry not trying make you take the bus But trying to give you the easier option for that park.

If you think they will have trouble boarding the bus and it dose not have tie down points you can board through the back door then have them transfer to a seat and fold it and keep it in front. when you exit you can do the reverse. Or the driver can kneel the bus and you can board with the stroller folded but then their no guarantee that their be a seat if the bus is was guest on it. If it fully and you don't want to board talk to the driver and they will contact dispatch to have them send another bus so you don't have to wait longer. Also try to be at the first stop so you have a better Chance and when the new bus comes most of the time they will start at the first stop instead of going to the stop the other driver called for.

Again everything is up to you at the end of the day it your trip if you want to drive to mk then take monorail or ferry then do that.

Please have a great trip and hope all works out for you.

The Liberty Special Needs Stroller will not have tie-downs, so it will have to be folded on the bus. Travel by car is probably easier, as it's somewhat heavy and cumbersome when folded -- kind of like a large jogging stroller. It probably is a good option to share between the 2 kids, though, as the 10-yr-old won't fit in a traditional stroller. I would agree that in mid-March, they could have low supply if not reserved in advance, since that's prime Spring Break time.

We use a Maclaren Major. After researching to rent, we ended up buying a used one. It paid for itself, and we really only use it on vacation. It's like an oversized umbrella stroller. Folds simply, just slightly larger than a traditional umbrella stroller, and is lightweight. It was very easy to fold and carry on the buses. There used to be at least a couple of "medical" rental places in the Orlando area that carried it (rather than the regular "baby" stroller rental companies), but it's been a few years since I researched. That also would work for both children, though it doesn't recline and a sunshade is an extra piece.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for the info about it not folding it but I still think for mk only it might be easier then parking at mk and then taking the monorail or ferry.

Thanks for the advice so far! MK is the hard one I think. The TTC/boat/monorail addition plus walking from the car vs lugging on the bus. I figure the morning shouldn't be too bad it's just the night when I may have a sleeper. Most nights we could probably meet up with the teens with us for help getting back if we needed so that could help for MK especially. I've done bus loading/unloading by myself with similar ages and a smaller stroller in the past, just wasn't sure about the size of this one. Thanks for the double jogger comparison. That helps!

For the final few days of our last trip, it was just my two girls (then 12 and 9) and I at the parks because my husband had to fly home early. We use a McLaren major for our younger daughter when any significant amount of walking is involved because of various medical needs. Mananging the stroller and backpack on my own on the busses was challenging. If my eldest hadn't helped there is no way we could have done it. Will your 10 year old be able to help by carrying a backpack and getting the younger sibling on the bus while you wrangle the stroller? If she can't I'm not sure if you will be able to handle a bulky stroller, 2 kids and a backpack on the bus on your own. I know I wouldn't have been able to.

I have a 10 almost 11 year old and she has outgrown the McClaren Major but she is tall for her age. We are looking to buy, or rent, the 16" Convaid Metro. They have two versions, one that is simply a stroller(weight up to 170 pounds) and the other that has tie downs for transport.
