Libby’s Trip – Day 10 MGM and DTD

Cast – Me 43 in love with Mickey Mouse
DH (of 20 years) 43
DS 14 cynical teenager
DD 11 a stroppy little madam

Location – 14 day holiday at Windsor Palms with 1 night trip to Royal Pacific Resort

Date – August 11th to 25th 2005

Saturday August 20th

While the rest of the family have a lie in I make a list of attractions I’d still like to do. Unfortunately they are scattered throughout the 4 parks.

I jump a little when a man lets himself into the villa – it turned out he was from the management company and seeing no car on the drive assumed we were out. Our villa had an electronic garage door so we can open it without getting out of the car so we’ve been using the garage every day.

He fits a new battery and leaves. The family are now awake and grab a quick breakfast then we head over to MGM. We park in Film 26 and need to use the tram today. We’ve just completed the bag check when DH remembers the video camera is still in the car so he heads back to get it while we go into the park to try and find some sunglasses for DS. It takes some time to find some sunglasses poked away in the corner of a store. We've just bought the glasses when DH returns.

I have a list of shows I want to see today. It’s now 12:20 so we head off with the intention of getting a fast pass for lights, motors, action. When we get there the passes are for the 4pm show but they are still letting in stand by guests for the 1pm show so we join that line. We had much better luck that on our previous attempt at this show and were seated very quickly. \i'm very good and make the family walk to the end of the seating only for the crowds to start coming up a different ailse and a CM yells at everyone to move to the centre of the benches. I did have trouble understanding the commentary due to the accent and the speed of talking (in fact I understood the commentators French more easily than her English – and I failed my O-level French! I felt a little insulted that she assumed the audience wouldn't understand her.)

The show was superb. I’m not a lover of car chase movies but the skill involved in this show was “awesome”.

From here we went to lunch (via a restroom to sort out the sun cream in my eyes – it’s not PMT making me cry today.) We went to have lunch at the Backlot Express where on our last trip we’d had some wonderful tuna subs – but they’d changed the menu! There was now nothing on the menu that I fancied so I just had some chips and a drink while the family had hot dogs.

We looked at the daily schedule and discovered there was a performance of the Indiana Jones show in 5 minutes so we thought we’d try our luck and managed to get seated and only missed a little of the volunteers being out through their paces. The show was as good as we remembered.

After this we had 10 minutes to get to Beauty and the Beast so we thought we’d try our luck again. Once again we managed to get seated. Sadly we’d missed most of the preshow with 4 for a Dollar. Beauty and the Beast was also very good and seemed more coherent than I remember but I might just know the story better now.

After this we had ice creams. Having had very little lunch I feel justified in choosing the 520 calorie Toll House Cookie sandwich.

Now we went to One Man’s Dream. As always I loved looking at all the memorabilia and the kids enjoyed controlling President Lincoln's skeleton. The film was introduced by a short, older while woman, after the show she was gone and had been replaced by a tall, young, black woman (the effect was weird – but I suppose you had to be there!) The film was very good.

We walked over to the Little Mermaid Show, but our luck had run out and the wait was too long for our flagging kids so we head back to the villa for a rest. It’s now 5:30pm.

After snoozing and snacking we head out to DTD. It was very difficult to find a parking space - I suppose I should have expected that on a Saturday evening. We wanted to have a look around the pleasure island shops. This area had been closed on previous visits – I'm sure the shops were open all day and it was just the clubs that didn’t open until late on our previous holidays. We then had some tea at McDonald’s at the Market Place and then having missed out on my craft shop visit I went to buy some WDW scrap booking stuff - I spent more than I had intended. We also had a look in Once upon a Toy and World of Disney before heading back to the villa.

Enjoyed your report again, Libby. Sounds like you had a fun (if tiring) day doing the shows at MGM. It is such a fun park.
