I read that this airport is only 18 miles from Disney. Has anyone used this airport? I don't know anything about it.

Haven't used it yet personally, but DH has for business many times.

It's small, clean, nice and convenient. It's almost as close as SNA (Orange County, aka John Wayne airport); yet it's often WAY cheaper to fly into than SNA and sometimes even LAX.

I understand it's small enough that there isn't a jetway; you get off the plane using those rollaway stairs. Make you feel like a rock star getting off onto the tarmac. :thumbsup2

I have heard a lot of good things about it here on the DIS boards. I was going to fly into there in October, but Alaska airlines screwed up my flight times, and they offered to fly me into SNA instead for the same price. So I took that.

Hope that helps!

My daughter lives in California and I've used the Burbank airport many times. I love it because it's so small and managable. You get off onto the tarmac there too.

I can't believe how expensive the flights are becoming. I want to go to DL for our 25th wedding anniversary in January....so I'm starting the planning NOW!

I love LGB ~ we've flown there twice and will fly there this Dec. I get great deals from SLC through JetBlue. I hate LAX, haven't tried anything else, but don't need to, can't beat the prices I pay.

I think the Long Beach Airport is farther away than that, I flew in there last month and considered a hop to Disney while I was there, but I think it was like an hour or so...

I like it. Like others have said, it's small and easy to find your way around.

SO if you had the choice.. would you fly to SNA or Long Beach Airport?

I have never flown into either airports.. I usually fly into LAX and don't mind the hustle&bustle.. just wanted to know from fellow DISers' !

Either SNA or Long Beach are great airports to fly into. I would just choose whichever one is cheaper. The shuttle prices are fairly close, since the airports since Long Beach is only a little farther away than SNA.

No, it's not an hour away. I flew into LGB and rented a car. I was at Disneyland 25-30 minutes later so 18 miles sounds about right.

LGB is a great, small airport. It is very convenient to fly in/out of and we choose it whenever possible.

It's actually about 14 miles via the most direct route, which is Wardlow Road exiting the airport. Wardlow becomes Ball Road when you cross the L.A. County - Orange County line. Turn right at Disneyland Drive or Harbor Blvd and you're there. Maybe this Mapquest link will work.

Thank you for that. I had decided that LGB would be the best choice for us since it is the cheapest and wasn't too much farther away but after hearing that it was over an hour, I was getting nervous.

LOL.....after reading this thread, I too went to mapquest to check on the exact mileage. I was so excited when I found that it was just 14 miles by taking back roads. I'm thinking that is the way we will go since we aren't in a hurry to get there and I like taking more local, backstreet ways to things. It's fun to see more of cities than just the freeways.

The funnyist thing to me is Ball meets Beach, near knotts water park, beach ball, too cute!!!

I heard just this week that JetBlue will be starting service to LGB from Portland -- I believe it's in November.

The closest airport is Orange County, then Long Beach, and the LAX & Ontario airports are about the same distance from DLR, though in different directions. Burbank is farther away.

I think I've got all the airports named in the following map:

SNA is generally much more expensive; no idea why. It was going to cost us something like $360 to fly into SNA, but we got $200 to fly into LBG. Two miles farther? Heck yeah!

The best part is that when I booked, I got pretty good flight times into LGB. Then the gas prices went up and Alaska cut their flights from Seattle to LGB down to maybe 3. So they arbitrarily changed my reservation to get in 3 hours later. I called and complained, and they offered to fly me into SNA for the same price. Woo Hoo! :woohoo:

Definitely fly into Long Beach Rosie that's where we live :thumbsup2

It's also the airport we try to fly out of most often. It's very small so it's hard to find direct flights everywhere, but it's so worth it to be able to show up a little before your flight and not have to rush around. If you're renting a car Disneyland is only 20 minutes away.

Yes!
I am just beginning the planning. Thinking of January 10th-14th. Our 25th year anniversary is the 13th. I think it would be amazing to spend it at Disney!...and if you could meet you and dear hunny I'd be even better.
