Letting ME know if you aren't taking it?

We made a ressie with ME since we weren't sure if we were going to go ahead with the rental car unless the prices came down. Well when the final payment was made and then the paper work came in (booked thru AAA) the price for the rental dropped dramatically so we decided to go ahead with the rental car.

Now when the papers came in our TA INSISTED our DD doesn't not need to be listed on the ME since she doesn't need park tickets etc (she will be 15 months) and there is no way that disney will add her under any circumstances and added that NO ONE adds children under 3 it is ME's policy. Anyway we are staying overnight at the Hyatt so DH told her if we did ME it would only be for going to the resort. Well our TA is calling DH and telling him we have to cancel the ME reservation or they will be looking for us - so if we are getting a rental car then she insists we can't keep our ME reservation (DH wants to keep it just in case something goes wrong with our car rental).

I told DH not to cancel it and tell her we will take it (we did the rental car ourselves not thru TA) b.c they don't look for you - you have to go to a counter and check in. Is this correct?

I've signed up for ME and then gotten a ride from the airport. I did not cancel ME, and I used it for the return trip. I don't see why you'd have to cancel it.

They don't look for you!

I have not taken it several times. I just get my luggage and head out. DME never seems to care!

Perhaps you should tell your AAA TA to join the DIS??? I swear thier agents have got to be amoung the most clueless LOL!

DME really doesn't care. As CarolA said, they aren't running around looking for you. Just make sure you don't use the luggage tags.

I know the only reason I used them was that they got me the best deal this year - the other trips I have always booked myself. I hate when I have to tell my TA all the info and then argue with her that something needs to be done.

As far as DD and ME - I didn't think they needed to be - but then I was told if I wanted luggage tags (they only sent us 2 tags we would have had at least 3 (one for each person since DD has a seat on the plane) for her that I should have her added to ME even though she doesn't appear on our reservation.

They'll hunt you down and make you take the bus! :lmao:

They don't care if you cancel or not!

They won't hunt you down but it is common courtesy to call and cancel if you are sure you won't be needing it.

For DME, just tell your travel agency (if applicable) casually once when you want to cancel but for other kinds of things there may be penalties for not cancelling.

Prior to your trip, any issues with DME back to the airport should be mentioned no more than once casually. It is easier and less confusing to CM's and your travel agent when you take care of these issues after you get there.

All persons including those under 3 should be registered when you go home on DME. DME agents not wanting to include that information are asking for trouble in the form of overbooked buses.

The OP wants to keep their DME reservations as backup. I'll disagree with the previous poster, there isn't any reason to cancel their DME reservation. If the TA gives you any trouble just tell them your changed your mind about the rental car and you're going to be taking DME. In this case a small lie makes more sense then taking the time to educate the TA about how DME works.

My answer would be different if you had a very late, 11p, flight. DME doesn't wait for any specific passengers, the buses are dispatched when they are full or after they've been sitting for a specific number of minutes. BUT I'm not sure if they wait for a late flight if they have a passenger with a reservation.

The DME system is open into the night as long as passengers with reservations are expected.

Sometimes, by the time the last passengers on late planes (happily) arrive at Disney, there are people already at the resort bus stop (sadly) waiting for that DME bus to start them on their journey home.

That was my point. A passenger arriving late, after 11p, should cancel if they know they won't be using DME. It's possible DME is remaining open, or at least holding a bus, for them. DME has a closing time, which is automatically extended to accommodate passengers with a reservations on late arriving flights.

You do not have to notify DME if you are not taking it. But, as lewisc said, if you are arriving late at night (after 10ish) I would let them know you won't be there. Because the buses run much less frequently late at night, they (DME) may hold the buses a bit longer because they know those late arriving flights are coming in...so rather than let a bus go, 1/4 full at 10:30pm, and then another 1/4 full bus go at 11:00pm, they will hold that 10:30 bus a bit longer to accomodate the late arrivals.
That would be the only time I let DME know that I wasn't using them, after reserving them.

we are arriving at 10 AM - we do plan to let them know if we aren't taking it - but for now we are using it as backup if something goes wrong with our rental.

In that case, I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are going to be plenty of people using DME at that time of day. They won't be held up if you don't appear.
