Letter of Consent

Actually once they asked my son, who has Aspergers, where his daddy was. He answered with, I call my dad Papa. He's boring, he's at work, so we're going shopping.

Then he just carried on talking... LOL like and tonight, when I get home, I'm not going home I'm going to Nana and grandpa's and we're having a sleep over, which is when his sister interjected with I'm not sleeping over, I don't have hockey, Mama won't be able to use Nana's car and Papa's at work again so grandpa has to take Jakcson. Mama and I are going to walk to the garage sales. I have 5$ if I don't spend it today.

Jackson piped in with, If dere's gawage sales at nana's house I getta go to dem too!

Kenna but not the ones at our house!

Jackson ya but ---

Agent tries to interrupt

Kenna JACKSON BE QUIET! We are at the border!

Agent -- have a nice day ma'am.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: OMG i love it!

:rotfl: OMG that's freakin hilarious. That was my laugh for the day. Thanks for that. :)

Normally, they know to sit quietly and answer the questions asked of them, but that day, I was just rolling my eyes, it was so funny!

My best friend and I crossed the border twice this year together with our 4 year olds. The first time without either husband and the second without hers. I was asked for a letter coming home on the first trip and she was asked entering the US on the second. She had a letter but it was not notaeized. The agent asked her daughter some questions and then waved them on.
It's random, like so many things like this. So, if you don't have a letter you are rolling the dice. Maybe you will be fine, maybe you won't. I am anxious all the way up to the agent, if I dont have a letter. I can't take that kind of anxiety.

We used to take my nieces and nephews across the border frequently and they asked for letters about a third of the time. One time, we were driving, and crossing back into Canada, and my (then 16 year old) nephew was in the back seat. The agent asked if anyone else was in the car, we said our nephew. She asked for a letter, and it was the one time I didnt have one. We told her so and she asked us to roll down the window (tinted) and I guess she had assumed he was younger because she took one look at him and told us to 'have a nice day'.
Really, you are probably ok. But myself, I'm a better safe than sorry gal. Why take the risk?

We just returned from taking DD's BFF to WDW last week.

Her parents downloaded the form from the internet and duly signed everything, as did I. They said they were going to get the form notarized, but did not. I did not question them on this.

At the airport, the U.S. border official took issue with the fact that it had not been notarized. He rightly pointed out that since he didn't know any of the people who appeared on the form, it really didn't mean anything.

He asked DD's BFF if she wanted to travel with us, and she said yes.

I was also asked for the form on the way back into the country, which I did not expect. I had almost packed it in my luggage!

Bottom line: get the letter notarized.

Separately, I so totally love that description of the family crossing the border. That really made my day!
