Well, I have tried numerous times to write (and complete) pre-trip reports and trip reports, with ZERO success. This time, I am DETERMINED to complete BOTH!:goodvibes

In the last many years we have tried to squeeze in at least two WDW trips a year, it has worked out most years, but the last couple of years have not been great financially, so our last trip to WDW was in May of 2009. Needless to say, our Disney itch was becoming unbearable and we decided to book at least one trip this year.

We quibbled back and forth with exactly what kind of trip we wanted this one to be. Do we want to go minimalistic and go value (which we haven’t done in many years), go moderate, or just go all out and go deluxe. Believe it or not, these options were discussed in great detail over the course of several weeks, with me and DD being the most involved. DH typically doesn’t care, as long we don’t have to mortgage the house or sell an organ to pay for the trip! Although, he did want to throw in his two cents a few times when discussing the values, as he isn’t much of a fan of those (to be truthful, none of us are)! Let me tell you why. ;)

***SIDE STORY*** DH and I took our first trip about a year after we were married and he was hooked. I had been hooked having traveled there several times a year since the age of 10. We began our vacations going value all the way; we stayed at all of them, except All Star Sports. When DD came along, we continued the tradition of staying at the values, except for a few side trips to Fort Wilderness with my grandparents. However, when DD was about 4, we took one of our “long weekend” trips, staying at All Star Music. When we arrived we were met with one of the rudest CM’s I or my DH had EVER dealt with. First, she claimed to not find our reservation, then she chided us for using “the wrong discount”, and then stomped off when I asked to speak to a supervisor; she was in general just a mean individual. We looked past it after a managerial type CM apologized and “fixed” the error with the reservation and we were off to our room. As soon as we opened the door, a horrific odor overtook ALL of us. DD claimed it smelled like the place was burning, DH claimed it smelled like “burnt tea leaves” :scared1: (some of you may know what might produce such a smell), and I just claimed I was NOT staying in that room. DH was brave enough to walk inside and call the desk and explain the problem. We trudged back up to the front desk, by this time our luggage was in tow, and the CM had new cards waiting on us. We marched all the way to the back of the resort to our new room and opened the door. I smelled a tiny bit of odor in the room, but, I had my can of Lysol and I figured I could defeat the minor smell. I proceeded to pull the bedspreads off (I will NOT lay on or under those spreads!), pulled back the sheets, did a quick inspection and DD lay down on one of the beds. She jumped up rather quickly and proclaimed it “smelled like puke”. I was sure she was exaggerating as little girls sometimes do, but I knelt down by the bed and sure enough, the smell was AWFUL. I pulled back the sheets and there was a ginormous “stain” in the middle of the mattress. At this point, not only were we tired, but I was extremely irritated. I called back up to the desk, asked to speak to whoever was in charge and explained our stressful night to them. We were asked to report back to the front, where, we were told we had been “upgraded” for all of our troubles. I wasn’t asking for an upgrade, I wasn’t asking for anything for free, I just wanted to get settled in a CLEAN room and start enjoying our little vacation. Anyhow, to make a long story even longer, we were sent to AKL for the duration of our stay and that was IT for us. We never looked back, we were hooked on deluxe and with the exception of the May 2009 trip and a few trips with the grandparents to Fort Wilderness, we have NEVER graced the doors of the values again! :woohoo: We have stayed at AKL numerous times, WL a few times, Saratoga Springs a few times and one special treat trip to the Contemporary. ***END SIDE STORY***

After much debating, we (mainly DD and me) decided since we haven’t had a trip in nearly two years, to WDW or otherwise, we deserved a deluxe vacation, it was Disney math at its finest, trust me! :teacher: We did some serious research on Deluxe resorts that we haven’t visited. We looked at the Poly and its proximity to MK and the TTC, but the atmosphere of the Poly, while very nice and laid back, really isn’t our style. We knew without even looking that Grand Floridian was out, because, again, it is definitely NOT our style and we would feel completely out of place. We priced out the stay at the Contemporary, but we ruled it out, because we ultimately decided the theming wasn’t “fun” enough for us! We knew we didn’t want Wilderness, we were fairly certain that although AKL is our favorite resort, we wanted something different. At this point we had it narrowed down to the Epcot resort area, leaving us debating Boardwalk, Beach Club or Yacht Club. Since we do spend a ton of time at Epcot, any of these resorts made sense really. We ultimately decided on the Boardwalk, although our decision making process was a bit silly. We live on the beach, so we decided the Beach Club wasn’t for us, we aren’t interested in yachts or yacht clubs, so that was out, but we do love the theming and atmosphere of a boardwalk area, so the Boardwalk won out. :thumbsup2

The next step was deciding when to go. Our decision making process had taken us in to early April, and we had the 180 day dining window to think about, so we were already pushing in to September/October time frame. Although I don’t make it habit to take DD out of school for ANY vacation, she is a straight A student, and doesn’t miss any school during the year under normal circumstances, I decided that 5 days out of school really wasn’t going to affect her educational career! So, not having to worry about school breaks, we started thinking of the time of year that would work for us. We started out thinking that we would like to go during the time the Christmas decorations are out and since the weather is typically moderate during that time period, that was weighing heavily on our decision, as we DO NOT like the steaming Florida heat (we are Florida residents though, so that makes NO sense!). However, DD and I both agreed that MNSSHP might be fun to attend as well, and we had already been to MVMCP once before and we loved it, so we started thinking sometime in October might work well for us. We discussed the two options with DH and he was pretty set on October because, first, it was sooner and second he thought it might be nice to see the fall decorations for once instead of the Christmas decorations. We decided that the first week in October would work best for us and we typically like to make our stays over an eight day period, leaving on late Friday afternoon and checking out early the following Sunday morning.

The next thought process brought us to our dining plan options, we knew for SURE that we did not want the QSDP, as we must have AT LEAST one sit down meal a day, we use that time to unwind and talk about the day’s events and activities. We volleyed back and forth about the Regular dining plan versus the Deluxe Dining plan, but we ultimately decided to go all out and do the deluxe plan. We do like to make our typical sit down meal a later dinner seating, but we are a HUGE fan of early breakfasts, and we figured the cost of adding a second sit down meal (breakfast) for three people for a minimum of 4 days, the Deluxe dining plan really was the way to go. Add to the fact that we always buy new resort mugs and we love so many of the snack options, Deluxe just made sense for us.

Tickets were a no brainer, because we are planning a family reunion at WDW for some time in February, 2012, which meant AP’s would work best for us. We like the Premium Annual Passes, because, although we don’t frequent the water parks, we do like DisneyQuest and we DO NOT like blackout dates!

So, with our resort decided, our dates agreed upon, dining plan decided and tickets discussed, I contacted the travel agent with those dates, resort options and ticket and dining plan needs, and waited for the painful email with the grand total! It wasn’t as awful as I expected and within a day or so, I had confirmed the reservation and made the deposit! WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!

:cool1:  :dance3:

Coming up next…. Cast introductions and some photos and planning strategies!

Subbing! Sounds like y'all are going to have a great trip! Boardwalk is next on my list of deluxes to try! I can't wait to read all about your plans! And you are not alone in starting ptrs and not finishing them. I think I am the queen of abandoned ptrs.
Good luck keeping up with this one, because I am excited to read it!

I apologize to my ONE reader, this new business is exploding with success right in front of me and although I am thrilled, I am also completely overloaded right now! Anyhow, here we go!!!

CAST INTRODUCTIONS

The cast for this trip is as it almost always is, myself, DD (11) and DH. We like our little family trips and enjoy the quality time we get to spend together!

Without further ado, here are the intros!

First, myself – Mande – 35 year old mom and wife. I am a business owner and it is a start up business, so my hands are beyond full right now. I enjoy reading, obsessively planning Disney trips and playing on my Ipad, to which DH has declared I have a serious addiction! Other than that, I just enjoy spending time with my family! My favorite ride is probably a close tie between Splash Mountain or Tower of Terror, while my favorite all around park is Epcot! My favorite sit down restaurant is Le Cellier and counter service would be the Yakitori House in Epcot. My favorite WDW snack is probably the Dole Whip, with Goofy’s Candy Company chocolate dipped pretzels running a close second. My favorite older Disney movie is Lion King and my favorite newer Disney Movie is Finding Nemo. I have been traveling to WDW since the age of 10. We started going while I was treating at Shands Medical Center and we went religiously, twice a year, until somewhere around my 19th birthday. We typically stayed at Fort Wilderness since my grandparents had a motorhome, but there were a few “special” trips where we stayed at the Contemporary.

Sorry, but I am always BEHIND the camera, so I can't find a pic of me, I will keep searching and add one later if I can find one!

Second is DH – Bill – 38 year old dad and husband. He is a partner in this business and he does the actual “work” while I actually “run” the company! His hobbies include watching UFC fights, building remote control cars and riding electric scooters with DD. He is typically very much a homebody except when the chance for a WDW trip comes up and then he wants to go, go, go! His first trip to WDW was with me and he was hooked from that first walk down Main Street USA! He said he dreamed of going there as a boy, but he never could have imagined the greatness that was WDW, and he still talks about that feeling he had the first time he saw the Castle! He is very much wrapped around DD’s tiny little pinky finger and everything in his life revolves around making her happy! I would venture to say his favorite ride is probably Rock N Roller Coaster, with Tower running a close second. His favorite park is AK, with Epcot coming in a REALLY close second. His favorite sit down restaurant is San Angel Inn and his favorite counter service is Pecos Bills. I do believe his favorite WDW snack would be the fudge on Main Street. I am not 100% certain on his favorite Disney movie, but I would venture a guess that it is probably Toy Story (all of them), as he watches them all the time with DD! He says his favorite part of a WDW trip is waking up that first morning of vacation and knowing that you have the whole vacation before you, I agree, there really is NO better feeling!

Finally is DD (11) – we call her HayJay. She is the most amazing and wonderful child that any parent could ever ask for. I joke all of the time that she was never a child, she went straight from infant to “grown up” overnight. Anyone who meets her calls her an “old soul”; she is just wise beyond her years. She is in 5th grade and her claim to fame is never having made anything below an A, EVER! She is in the gifted and talented program at her school and has been since third grade. While I know the gifted and talented thing is a sore subject of the DIS, I really have to tell you, I haven’t met another child her age, or older that is quite as intelligent as she is. I am not saying that because she is mine, she really is amazing! Even with being an “old soul”, she is still a little girl at heart and she LOVES traveling to WDW, it is her favorite place on earth! She is my co-conspirator…errrmmmm, I mean planner ;) and we have a wonderful time planning every minute detail! When she isn’t helping me plan, she is reading, drawing (usually Disney related things) or riding her scooter with DH. She took her very first trip to WDW at the ripe old age of 5 months and has been going ever since, and has, on a few occasions gone without dear old mom and dad! Her favorite park is Epcot and her favorite ride is SpaceShip Earth. Her favorite sit down restaurant is 50’s Prime Time Café and her favorite counter service is Yakitori House. Her favorite older Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast and her favorite newer Disney movie is probably a tie between Finding Nemo (she can quote nearly the entire movie) and the Toy Story series.

And just for grins, here are the furry folks who won't be joining us, but staying with grandma and grandpa instead!

Lolly - At almost 11 years old, she is the matriarch of our furry family! She is a pekingese, but did not come from a line of pekingese who had been bred and inbred to create the show quality puppies. We got her when DD was just 6 months old and her birthday is in just a few days, May 8th.

IMG_1153-1.jpg

Snowball - She is 2nd in line and tried REAL hard to be the matriarch, but Lolly held that position long before she came along! She is Maine Coone/some other long haired breed and she will be 6 in October.

IMG_1155-1.jpg

Nala - She is the newest member of our family and she was a stray, whom we rescued, got "fixed" and got her shots. We don't know her breed, but she has a "bob tail" and has recently decided that she enjoys being outside more than inside, so, we just put a tiny doggy door in the screen door of the porch and she can come and go as she pleases.

IMG_0923-1.jpg

We also have Lucy, who is actually my ex bosses dog. My ex boss is getting a divorce and said he didn't want her anymore :confused3 , but his soon to be ex does want her. Ex Wife is living in a condo with her brother who is allergic and asthmatic, so she can't have her right now. I guess we are "fostering" her for now, but she has quickly become a member of our family. She is a 3 year old yellow lab, and is just a little too active (hear hyper) to catch a good photo. I will try and find one and post it later.

FAMILY DISNEY HISTORY - Like I said in my first post, DH and I started taking our own trips the year we were married in September 1998. We pretty much went two times a year, except the year DD was born (December 1999), typically around May and then again in November or December. When DD came along, we continued this tradition of going twice a year until we moved from Panama City Beach to Palm Harbor, Florida (only 1.5 hours from WDW). At that point, we were pretty much going every other weekend, with at least two longer trips per year. Now we are back in Panama City Beach and as I said in my first post, up until now, extra finances have been at a minimum, so trips to Disney had to be put on the back burner and we haven’t gone since May, 2009.

I will try and come up with a few old Disney photos to post later.

Although WDW is our main source of travel entertainment, we have taken trips out west, the Dakotas (Rushmore and such), and frequently travel to Key West. We also do a lot of “mini trips” to semi local areas for camping and such. We have trips in mind for the future, to Washington state (DH’s parents live there now), Washington DC and NYC and hopefully a trip to Anaheim to visit the “Original”! But, for now, WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!

THE START OF THE OBSESSIVE PLANNING!

THE START OF THE OBSESSIVE PLANNING!

After confirming the reservation and making the deposit, DD and I started our, to quote DH, ridiculously obsessive planning. I have purchased Tour Guide Mike a few times in the past and although we consider ourselves experts at navigating and planning our park days, I decided that we would purchase it again and use his strategies and tour guides. I started plugging in dates and favorite rides and favorite dining spots and Tour Guide Mike started clocking away. Soon enough, I had the least busy park days, park hours, show, parade and fireworks schedule and we started planning our dining options.

So, the park days are (as of this moment) to be as follows:

Friday, September 30 – No park as we will be arriving later in the evening, and we like to start at the parks early in the morning, when we are fully rested. So, with that in mind, we are going to hid DTD and our first dining spot will be at Raglan Road, late that evening, after we have checked in and unpacked. We are hoping to get to bed at a decent hour (which at Disney is 11 p.m. for us!).

Saturday, October 1st – We will hit the ground running today, with a visit to DH’s favorite, Animal Kingdom. We have an early morning ADR at Tusker House, and we will plan on being at AK all day and we will hit all of our favorites. We booked a late evening dinner at Boma, so we will catch the bus from AK to AKL after park closing and then roam the grounds of AKL before our ADR. Again, we will get to bed pretty early this night.

Sunday, October 2nd – Another fairly early morning today, with an early ADR at ‘Ohana for breakfast. We will visit MK today, take a short midday break and return for a few attractions and a dinner ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern and then close the park.

Monday, October 3rd – This is a favorite day for all of us, because we ALL LOVE Epcot! We will start with an early morning ADR at Akershus (DD is 11 and won’t admit it now, but she loves princess meals!) and then a fairly early dinner seating at Le Cellier! In all of our years of traveling to WDW, DH has NEVER experienced this restaurant, although DD and I have and we LOVE it. I have a feeling after this visit, this will be a new favorite table service for DH!

Tuesday, October 4th – This is a day that is kind of mixed for us, although we do like several of the attractions at DHS and we enjoy the shows, we get so mixed up and turned around at this park, we sometimes dread visiting this park! Anyhow, the day will start early with a breakfast ADR at Cape May Café and will end with dinner at 50’s Prime Time Café’. This is another sit down that DH hasn’t experienced, but DD and I both REALLY enjoy it and being the comedian that he is, DH will probably have a blast with the “Aunts” and “Uncles”!

Wednesday, October 5th – This will be a fairly busy day and our first day of park hopping. We traditionally do not park hop, because, for us, it just makes more sense to stay at the same park all day. Today, we will start with an early morning breakfast at ADR at Captain’s Grille, a visit to Epcot, with a fairly early dinner ADR at Teppan Edo. We are hoping (fingers and toes crossed) that after the ADR, we can hop the monorail to MK and catch MSEP and Wishes. It will involve a bit of rushing, but I think we can do it!

Thursday, October 6th – This will be another AK day, but we will take it easy and leave right after our early dinner ADR. We will start the day with breakfast at Rainforest Café, hit a few of our favorites and then have a late lunch, early dinner at Yak and Yeti. We will spend the remainder of the day by the pool or just hanging at the Boardwalk.

Friday, October 7th – Our final full day at WDW. :sad1: We will start with an early morning ADR at Kona Café, head over to MK and visit our favorites one more time, we will probably park hop over to Epcot, to do a few of our favorites and then catch the monorail back to TTC and then to Contemporary for our late ADR at Chef Mickeys.

Saturday, October 8th – Time to go home. We won’t leave TOO early and will probably stop at DTD on our way out for a few final souvenirs. We will likely stop somewhere around Gainesville for lunch/dinner at Cracker Barrel and a quick “visit” to Shands. And then back home, with one day of rest before its back to the “grind”!

We are pretty meticulous planners (as you might be able to see), but this is NOTHING as far as planning is concerned. DD and I are already discussing how to minimize our packing this year! I have also purchased RideMax and I sincerely hope it works out for us! I have never used it before, but I have heard decent reviews, and although we don’t normally plan our days down to the very second, I think having a RideMax plan will help maximize the attractions we will get to visit!
