Let's Talk Shoes, Please!

Hi all,
Last two trips I wore Teva Mush flip flops and felt very comfortable all day wearing them. Is this still the go-to flip flop for most people?

Also, my sons are 12 and 14. Are sneakers the best option for them or will flip flops be best since we are traveling in July? They wore crocs at the World when they were little, but I know they won't wear them now.

If it worked for you in the past, wear 'em again.

I'd have both sneakers and flip flops for your boys. They can switch if the sneakers get soaked.

I hate tennis shoes. My feet are more uncomfortable in them than anything else. That said, as I've gotten older I need more support on my feet. I went to the store to buy/try on a pair of Vionic flip flops but they.didn't have the color I wanted and I felt like the bottom was really flat. The sales lady recommended Sole flip flops and I love them. That was 2014 and I still wear them everyday remotely possible from March to November. They still look brand new too.
As far as your boys, my DH wouldn't be caught dead in traditional Crocs but he's been wearing nothing but Crocs Santa Cruz style for 2, 8 day visits. He's never had a problem. They have the comfy crocs inside but they are canvas on the outside. They dry quickly too so no need to worry about wet feet. He now has multiple pairs and wears them every single day for work, I mean every single day.

Last trip (In 2015) I tried Skechers GoWalks. I had no problems with my feet other than the usual walking pain at the end of the day. NO blisters, etc. BUT-by the end of the trip my ankles and feet had swollen to twice their normal size. I don't know if this was lack of support that you'd get with a good sneaker or what, but I could barely get them onto my feet by the last day. I know a lot of people wear GoWalks to the parks and have no problems at all, but my experience was so bad that This year I'm wearing my good (and broken in, that's so important) sneakers.

We usually bring sneakers and flip flops for the kids, depending on our plans for the day. Sneakers for park days, flip flops/sandals for laid back or water park days. Flip flops don't take up much room in the suitcase

I am definitely in a minority, but I don't like flip flops for going on rides. Moving walkways, ride vehicles, and bare toes make me nervous. Some sandals have closed toes (Keene?).

Moot point for me since I stick to my New Balance sneakers.

My kids both wear Teva flip flops when we go to the parks. I wear Fit Flops. We do travel with sneakers, just in case, but rarely have we ever worn them. Daughter and I have the Skecher GoWalks and the boys have adidas.

On my last trip I wore Chacos sandals. They were perfect for me. They had awesome arch support and the soles were thick enough to keep my feet protected from the hot pavement. I wear a size 8 women's, but a big kid size 6 fit me. The big kid styles are much cheaper than the adult styles. If you have a fair complexion, don't forget to put sunscreen on your exposed feet. I repented of my forgetting this after the first day.

I also love Chacos. Great combination of comfort and ease. They give stability like a sneaker but they won't stay soaked from water rides or mid-afternoon rain showers. They can be pricey but they last forever and come in so many different colors.

Will their flip-flips stay on while riding a coaster? I'm trying to think if there are any rides in WDW they might come off on. Definitely some dangling feet rides at Universal/IoA, but maybe not at WDW? But flip-flops might be nice for water rides.

I love my Teva Mush. I was thinking about trying my Oofos Oolala flip-flops next time (would bring the Mush as backup).

I purchased Keens for our second trip to Disney. I saw them all over the water parks on our first trip and heard good reviews of them on this Dis Boards so I gave them a try. What a god send!! They are cool as they are a sandal, they stay on like a shoe, and they have a molding cushion yet sturdy support that kinda wraps around the sole of your foot. They are water proof and provide traction. The kids all have a pair for the parks including water parks. I've had mine ever since. The kids have unfortunately outgrown theirs and I've had to replace them, but they are a solid investment.
We also carry our flip flops(I'm taking notes from here about the best flip flops to pack) to switch into for the evening to give our feet a well deserved change. We don't do as many rides in the evening so I'm not as concerned about them coming off.
I also second the sunscreen on the top of your feet. We ended up with tiger stripes because we neglected to apply anything from the ankle down.

we're sneakers on heavy walking days and open walking sandals on rainy or Kali days or leisure days!! Guess what ever has worked in the past, go with it - If it ain't broke

On our last trip I wore Sketchers Elite with lite foam and they were so comfortable UNTIL I developed a blister under my left ankle. It was so huge I had to visit a doctor upon our return home. In the meantime I switched to Crocs Patricia sandals and never had an issue the rest of the time at Walt Disney World.

Looks like I've got a list of shoes to check out on Amazon. Thanks everybody who's replied so far.

We wear sneaks, usually Nikes or New Balance for me. Pool days are Crocs. However, DH hates crocs--the look of them, and they don't seem to fit right. He's got a wide foot and flip flops don't seem to fit right, either. Can anyone recommend a poolside sandal-type thing for him? Thanks!

I love my Keen Newport H2's! They're very comfortable, give the breathability of a sandal, yet good toe protection. While they can get wet, they don't dry quite as fast as I would like though. I've heard it mentioned that a lot of people pack two pairs of shoes and alternate days, so I got a pair of Crocs Swiftwater Leather fishermen sandals as well. They have the same sole as traditional Crocs, but look much nicer. They also have a lot of mesh which should dry very quickly.

My family and I changed our shoes throughout the day and it really helped! We each took 2 to 3 pairs with us and swapped them in and out and it really helped save our feet. I didn't feel like hacking them off with a butter knife at the day which was definitely a step up from our previous trip. That many shoes can get bulky though, but we had a stroller to toss them in. I'd definitely carry at least 2 pairs, flip flops and then another pair. Plus flip flops would save your material shoes from being soaked by rain.

I used Keen sandals on our last trip and they were amazing! Walking in them felt like I was wearing a good pair of sneakers, but with the openess of sandals. In past trips I've worn nike and new balance sneakers, but after all the blisters, uncomfortable heat and soaked socks, I never again wear them in the parks. I will always wear a pair of Keens.

sketchers go walk are amazing, also i like some of under armour's running shows but they must have lots of ventilation to stay cool.

I love my Nike flip flops with the memory foam in them? I'm sure there is a fancy name for them, but I got with "my super comfy flipy flops" . I have worn my sketchers on days where my feets were achy and I knew that I wasn't going on any water rides.
