Lets talk about the Sun Wheel

Does this ride scare anyone else to death!!! We went on it in October and I insisted that we go on the swinging side. When it does that big swoop from the left to ride I thought we were going to plumit into the water. Of course my 3 year olds loved it.

OMG That sounds scary!!! I also have 3 yr old twins but B/B. Can you explain a little more about this ride? Does one side swing and the other doesn't?? Thanks.

It is like a ferris wheel but there are "gandolahs" that swing and they go back and forth on the bar. Does not look that bad from a distance but wow!! Deep down inside I think I enjoyed it though.

LOL, but the Sun Wheel looks so innocent from down on the ground. Some people around here lately have called it a "cheap carnival ride". Tell that to the folks who dare ride in one of the sliding gondolas! It is anything but cheap and innocent.

I rode in one of the swinging gondalas and while I was not scared, I did feel sick to my stomach.

My 13 year old DD and her friend went on it for the first time last month. They were so scared and could not wait to get off of it!!!
They said what made it worse, is that there are no seatbelts and felt like they were going to slide out into neverland. So everytime we would walk by the ride, they would go on and on and on about how they would NEVER NEVER NEVER go on that ride again. It was really quite comical about all of their dramatics. Anyways, it made quite an impression on them. Needless to say...not a very good one.
PS I'm just glad I wasn't on it with them!

We rode in one of the swinging cars with me, dh, MIL (in her 70's), 7 year old and 3 year old. None of us were all the scared, but we all agreed it was a HUGE waste of time. The line didnt look long, but took over 45 minutes. We went around one time while they loaded the other cars, then one full time around after they were loaded, then they started the unloading process. It was over an hour of waiting and riding. Way too much for what the ride offered. Yes, it was pretty from up there- it was night and the lights on the water were pretty, but tht was about it.

The first time we got into one of those swinging cars, I was terrified (as were the kids). Especially when it first gets going. I mean, you are WAY up there, and then the thing starts sliding and I'm wondering what on Earth I was thinking getting on.

I keep riding, though. I get on, and pray for it to be over soon. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

We call it the "puke wheel." My sister mistakenly decided to go on a swinging car with us. She started turning green almost immediately when the swinging started. I sat there worried the whole time that she was going to lose it! Neither of us could wait to get off that thing, although my DH and 2 boys were loving it!

Next time we went back, I rode one of the stationary cars by myself. It was a much nicer experience and the line was shorter on that side!

Another ride that appears more innoccent than it is, is Mulholdand (sp?) Madness.

Looks like an easy little roller coaster, but when you whip around those corners, espcially on the side that faces the park, it seems impossible that those cars aren't just going to snap right off the track and plummet to the ground.

My Dh, DS(8) and DD (11) went on the Gondolas swinging ones and when they got off, my kids were hysterical crying and DH was white as a ghost..(and they are big roller coaster fantatics and love amusemnet rides)

my mom and I however, were the smart ones and rode the stationary ones!!

thanks for the warnings! We're going in a month and I wondered how much swinging went on, sounds like enough for us to use the stationary ones!

We went on it the first time this past June.My DS12 and DD5 would not go with us.My DH and DD10 went with me.My husband doesn't swear but you should have heard the words coming out of his mouth.My DD was shocked.I do swear sometimes and that was the proper place for swear words.

We went back in Oct with DD10 and Nephew18.We thought we would be a smart butt and take nephew on it.Well we were the first people on it and half way through loading it BREAKS DOWN.My nephew tries really hard to get it swing,but I beat the crap out of him.You know I love the TOT but I hate those swinging gandulas!They did give us Fast passes for anything in either park for our trouble.Actually they were like front of the line passes except for use at POTC.We used them for Aladin the show and right up front-Awesome.

You know everyone should have this wonderful experience.

My family loves rides...we go on all the roller coasters with no problems at all but we will NEVER go on the Sunwheel again! I can't recall ever being so motion sick! It ruined the rest of our day...live and learn!

It looked like it wasn't such a big deal but my goodness....all I wanted to do was kiss the ground when I got off!

I've not been on it before, and I do want to try it once, but I tell you right now that when I do. . .I am NOT getting on the swinging gondolas! I'd rather keep my lunch, thank you very much!

Swingin' Sunwheel... the only thing I don't LOVE about it, is the wait to ride.
