Instead of the scary, or creepy looking jack-o-lantern, I thought I would try something fun. What came out is more kind of weird (the mouth is kind of warped), but the kids seem to like it. Does anybody else have a jack-o-lantern that they want to share?

Here's ours:

We haven't done ours yet. I was thinking about wimping out and painting pumpkins this year BUT then I remembered making sugared roasted pumpkin seeds and decided maybe that makes it worth the mess. :p

Looks good
We normally wait till the 29th or 30th to carve ours
I'll post when its done

**admitting we haven’t picked our design yet**
thinking either riper, mad hatter, witch or cat

Cute. We haven't even bought ours yet. We plan on buying them tomorrow and carving them tomorrow night. Going to the pumpkin farm tomorrow. We waited until oldest DD came home to do it. She is arriving this afternoon for a one week visit.

Wait wait wait? Sugar roasted???? :listen:

I have my pen ready - recipe, please?

Painting can be fun too -but it doesnt take as long and you lose out on that whole 'experience' ( newspaper all over the floor, grimey fingers and the phone rings, finding a gob of goo off the paper) so it's not *as* fun - kwim?

It is pretty easy. Wash and dry your pumpkin seeds. Throw them in a bowl with an egg white. Add in a good amount of sugar to evenly coat all the seeds. You can also mix in some brown sugar to make them a little more caramelly. Cinnamon is good too to mix in if you want them to have that flavor. Spread them out on a baking sheet and bake at 350 until they are done. They will look bubbly and you will be able to tell the sugar and egg white is cooked. Just keep an eye on them because it won't take long.

YAY!

Hey - what is that in your signature? 'Your' Haunted Mansion? ___ EDITED: I clicked! SO COOL! Holy cow!!!

CR, if you want to make the seeds go further you can mix them with some nuts and sugar them all.

I love pumpkin carving. Every year I coordinate our pumpkins with our costumes. I can never find a stencil that I like so I do them freehand. I know they aren't the greatest, but they sure are fun to do.

These are from previous halloweens. We don't carve them until a few days before halloween, but I'd love to post them when we get them done too.

DS5 did this one. I drew a face and he just followed the lines. Made it easy for him.

DS10 did this one all on his own.

Did this one a couple of years ago when VMK was still around for a DIS contest they had.

DH did this one last year. I think he also did his freehand.

And last, but first. My first ever attempt at carving freehand and what got me hooked on pumpkin carving. Tink is blowing pixie dust so the sparkle goes around the pumpkin. I have so many more, but alas I do not want to be a thread hog. Thx for looking at my pics! ;)

millipie..those are fantastic!! You are very talented!!

We won't carve ours until next week so I'll enjoy everyone else's on this thread until then.

Thanks! I really have fun carving them every year. It's almost therapeudic. (to me at least)

Those are great

How do you do all that detail work??? Do you use a jigsaw or something? I can barely get the traditional triangle eyes cut out.

I hear ya. It took me forever to cut out that goofy thing I made. I don't think I would have the patience to even attempt as something as intricate as those incredible designs.

Here are ours!

When I first tried carving (tinkerbell) I didn't have any carving tools so I used a knife. When I realized I liked doing it, I bought a pirate's book just so I could get the carving kit that comes with it. I like the carving tools for big cuts, but I use a pairing knife for the details. I know some people use power tools though, but I'm scared of those things. :scared: This year I'm going to try the shading technique. I used it once before when I carved my DS, but I kind of messed up on that. You can't tell much in the pic, but in the light it looks a mess.

That is so cool! Pumpkins so aren't my thing.
