So, I see a lot of threads on here where age comes up as a point of conflict or contention. I thought it would be interesting to see the generational makeup of DISboards. Of course, we can't guarantee mass participation or accuracy- but remember- this is anonymous, so why lie? ;)

Please keep dialogue/conversation on this matter respectful and friendly in nature. There tends to be a lot of scapegoating and strong feelings on this matter, and it would be remiss of us to devolve away from civility. :) Remember that sarcasm does not translate through the screen well, and be patient with your fellow thread mates. :flower:

My "suspicion" as it were, is that this board has a higher population of Baby Boomers relative to the other corners of the internet that I frequent. I could be wrong! Regardless, some of the conversations here fascinate me, and I find the insight and dialogue on here to be very informative (and at points catatonically depressing).

The age brackets here are taken from generations.com - a company that speaks publicly about generational disconnects and how to improve understanding all around. If there's an interest, I have some content from this organization that I could share.

P.S.: I know we're all 29 forever in our hearts. :shamrock:

Gen X, BABY! WOOHOO!

I was actually at a really interesting talk recently, and the guy had everyone who was a millennial raise their hand, then baby boomers, then traditionalists. The he joked that there really aren't enough GenXers around to matter compared to millennials or boomers, so he doesn't bother calling on them. (He did, of course, and he was right - just a handful of hands compared to the other groups.)

Oh goodness, how I hate the "Gen X" term....ugh. But technically, if that's how they classify it, that's where I fall.

Now get off my lawn...I'm still young :D

So far there's a strong lead going for y'all! ;)

Generations, the company mentioned above, breaks out population this way:

Traditionalists-75 million
Baby Boomers-80 million
Generation X-60 million
Millenials-82 million
Generation Edge-61 million

I believe that is a global population figure.

Maybe DISboards is the Generation X stage!

Not that I put any stock in it, but I've also wondered about people's astrological signs on the Dis. Because while I don't believe that my horoscope is going to indicate how my day might go, I do think its a fun topic.
Ah, but if I do that thread I will need sun, ascendant, moon, venus, and mars to find any use out of it. ;)

Lol...way too out of my league there! I know I'm a taurus on the cusp (again, like the age thing) with a lot of scorpio stuff. That's all I've got.

Generations are marketting terms. Which is why nobody can agree on age ranges. For example, some people have Millennials going through 2002.

Are Generation Y and Millenials the same generation?

First I've seen about Generation X. I thought Millenials went way into the 2000+.

They can be, but the company I am using see them as a way to connect and improve communication and understanding across age gap. They have a set age range assigned based on studies, with no nefarious motive. Feel free to check them out for yourself-link above! :)
