Let's design a new Kids' Menu

CS:
grilled cheese

mini cheeseburgers/hamburgers like the ones my kid's school cafeteria serves. They are just the right size and are prepacked

cheese sticks, cups of yogurt, individual fruits like mandarin oranges, applesauce etc.....maybe have a meal where you can pick 3 or 4 items from a list to make your own.

I am so glad to see others find the kids menu less than desirable. We are going for our first time in May and will be on the DP, but primarily because it makes since with several character meals. However we have already discussed getting appetizers, salads, etc. and letting our daughter eat off our plate.
* mandarin oranges or even more fruit variety - melon in season, fruit cups
* grilled cheese, quesadillas (cheese or chicken), mini tacos, shrimp, pasta with choice of sauce and toppings, pizza with choice of topping - this is a great way to get kids to eat vegetables.
* anything off the adult menu - smaller serving.

The only way to encourage kids to eat better is to offer the variety. To the above poster - yes I would pay a couple dollars more.

Grilled cheese made with American cheese- thats all we ask for in our family

we searched high and low throughout the parks and were so excited when we found out that Rose and Crown had them on the lunch menu....only to find out when the waitress brought it out that it was made with Cheddar cheese ...ewwww:scared1:  :sad1: - anyhow we finally found it at the hotel of all places- we were staying at the All Star Sports so my DS who was 7 at the time was thrilled:banana:  :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2: :cool1: :cool1: :dance3:

More fresh meat offerings, rather than processed stuff. My son would love grilled chicken, pork and steak. And, freshly carved whole turkey breast would be lovely. For sides steamed rice, broccoli and fresh corn.

Absolutely, and my son has loved tossed salad since he was 3. He also loves every type of soup. Making those items available along with the other 5 standard foods (grilled cheese, nuggets, pizza, mac & cheese & PB & J, Yikes!) would make a lot of sense and I would pay more for those choices.

CS: Fruit, grilled chicken strips, veggies, pita bread
TS: Grilled chicken, meat, fish kabobs, rice, veggies, baked potatoes

:

This is exactly the sort of kid's menu that was instituted property-wide (at least in every restaurant controlled by Disney) a couple of years ago - only that one went so far as to restrict desserts to fruit, applesauce or sugar-free gelatin. It was changed back to the "typical" children's foods due to guest complaints.

And I'd guess as long as kids' meals cost only $10 a night on the dining plan, you are not going to see a lot of expensive fresh ingredients used.

How hard is it to have kid's burgers available at Pecos Bill's, etc.?

At last report, Pecos Bills did have a hamburger on the kids' menu.

A low cost change I'd like to see made is more salads and other fruit/veggie options made available, rather than just the carrots & dip and apples. I mean, this is Florida, right? Why not melon, strawberries, orange slices, etc based on season?

That's why I hesitate to make any suggestions about main dishes for kids... What I'd like to see based on my own kids' taste wouldn't fly with many (most?) kids, and aside from the lack of decent desserts (it is vacation, after all - let 'em have ice cream!), my family *liked* those healthier kids meals they implemented for a while there.

I think there is also probably a difference between families staying on resorts and those just visiting the parks, as well as those who travel to WDW more often and those who only go once.

Since we stay at WDW, unless we go off-site (which we felt we had to twice on our last trip) we are stuck with the menu. My kid can't eat just nuggets and hot dogs for a whole week. At some point, she'd be willing to eat anything else, even if it's really healthy food. :rotfl:

My very picky DD would love to have pepperoni pizza as a choice instead of plain cheese pizza. She also liked grilled cheese, different pastas, ham sandwiches..... And I agree with everyone that kids should be offered smaller portions of what is on the regular menu.

Grilled cheese
Cheese sticks- not the deep fried kind- string cheese kind
noodles with butter
brocolli- in a sauce (like terriyaki)
Rice!
mini steaks
Grilled pork chops(little ones)
Make your own pizza toppings- including VEGGIES!
Strawberries as a side choice
or even as a dessert option.
