Your response can be for either a TS or CS restaurant (please specify) -- wonderful if you have a suggestion for a specific restaurant too. Or do you have a suggestion for a side?

Guidelines:
* try to keep within the current format ie. an entree plus 2 sides
* try to keep as cheap as current offerings eg. no lobster rolls
* no hot dogs, no chicken nuggets!

I'll compile the list here in the first post.

Not hot dogs, no chicken nuggets?! My kid ain't eatin! :rotfl:

CS: Fruit, grilled chicken strips, veggies, pita bread
TS: Grilled chicken, meat, fish kabobs, rice, veggies, baked potatoes

Drinks: Fresh fruit smoothies (with little to no sugar added)
Various milk options, 1%, 2%, non-fat, Rice Milk, Soy Milk

Let them go to town on dessert!

I would switch the dried out carrot sticks they serve now for fresh baby carrots. I would love to see watermelon at more resturants.

CS- carved turkey & cheese sandwiches with grapes and chips.
CS- multigrain crackers with slices of ham and cheese to create their own masterpiece. Of course with some fruit and a veggie.

My kids (expecially my son) doesnt love fried food. He would much prefer a good sandwich with a pickle and some pretzels over anything

My DD (4) loves the chicken ceasar salads at Disney which are, unfortunately, only on the adult menu (therefore needing an adult CS credit). It would be nice if they offered a kid size portion with fruit on the side. She would also love, love, love shrimp - that girl can eat the heck out of some shrimp!!

She would also like to see some broccoli as a side instead of cooked carrots and peas (which she loves also but which were the only veggies offered at any of the TS meals that we ate at in September, 2008). Also, for dessert, can Disney get more creative with something other than an ice cream sundae for kids? I mean LeCellier's chocolate "moose" is so cute - why can't Disney come up with a specialized kid's dessert for other TS restaurants?

My DD certainly is not looking forward to the dining options for our upcoming trip - pizza, hamburger, chicken fingers...blah, blah, blah!

CS or Dinner

Spaghetti with meatballs (my dd's favorite!)
other pasta style dishes
Kabobs, fruit kabobs, meat kabobs, veggie kabobs
Pizza
Sandwiches (a variety of or kids make your own)

TS

meat option, fish option, vegetable option, side option

I agree the kids menu's still need work!! Thankfully my DD is now 10 and can eat with us from the adult menu this year -- yayyyy! She might not agree when we get down there though....

I think that's a Canadian thing -- most of the restaurants we eat at have a signature Kid's dessert. Chefs can do a lot with gummy worms. :rotfl:

Let me also suggest vegetarian options...more fresh veggies with dips, grilled veggie plates, rice and veggie bowls, pasta with broccoli and lots more fresh fruit options. Even for a 5 yr old with a great appetite, cheese pizza for 5 days gets boring.

IN GENERAL...

  • Anything (within reason) on the adult menu should be available on the kid's menu in a smaller portion.
  • (goes with above) More variety in the kid's menu at each location, and across locations [i.e., why does every restaurant have pretty much the exact same kid's menu, with only minor variations?]
  • More middle-ground between meat and vegetarian options, i.e., more cheese and/or yogurt meals.
  • Kids are on vacation too. Let them have fun without fussing too much about "healthy"; but provide healthy options for those who want it.

IN SPECIFIC (based on online menus, which can be inaccurate)

  • No fish and chips kid's meal at Rose & Crown (TS)?
  • How hard is it to have kid's burgers available at Pecos Bill's, etc.?

I'm going to start compiling the list tonight -- keep the ideas coming!

My suggestions (all CS, since that is where we have the most problems finding something DD likes -- we mostly do buffets for TS meals):

Entrees:
chicken quesadillas -- half the size of the adult entree at AS Resorts -- and cut into triangles (less messy that way)
macaroni casserole -- they use the Stouffers mac and cheese, why not the mac casserole too
steak and mashed potatoes -- DD loves the pub style steak at Steak and Stein -- tender enough to eat with a fork

Sides:
Oranges or orange slices -- this is Florida, right? The apple slices and apple sauce are pretty bland compared to the ones we have at home
Fresh berries -- whatever is in season at the time
Yogurt

For those of you looking for spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, or turkey dinner, try the food courts at the AS Resorts. But I agree these items should be on the menus at other CS locations. :cool1:

mandarin oranges & other citrus fruits would be nice
ooh, yogurt - good one
applesauce or apple slices (my kids love McD apple slices)
mashed potatoes at more places (are there any at all, but buffets anyway)
piece of fresh fruit, like a banana (big hit with my daughter)

I agree with sandwiches/sub - my son loves ham & cheese sandwiches for lunch at preschool

REAL PB sandwiches - but I understand why that's not an option due to food allergies - my kids don't like Uncrustables.

ITA -- my kids detest being relegated to chicken nugget/pb&j plates. DD would much rather have an appy-sized portion of mussels for her dinner. DS would love a "junior sized" steak. This is why we tend to gravitate towards buffets because the kids can enjoy what the grownups are having.

So, yes: kids fish & chips at R&C/or fish at CHH; kids terryaki steak at Tokyo/Teppan; kids burgers ANYWHERE...

also: what about an entree salad (chef salad, for example) for kids? Mine would enjoy that (though, admittedly, my kids are weird). Soup would be great option for kids too, at least they can get it as an appy on the DDP at some places.

If I think of more, I'll post.

Our kids are great eaters and ate what ever we did. Thankfully when they were kids the offerings at Disney were not so limited.

Why in the world can they not offer most of the same things that are on the adult menu but in smaller portion sizes?

That is all I would like for any future grandchildren or for my nieces children when they visit with me.

Oranges or orange slices -- this is Florida, right?

Funny story: we were in Disney for my birthday in May of '07. Our first night, we had dinner at the Big River bar/grill/brewery place at the BW. We tried the flight of beer samples and I selected this nice wheat beer. When it came, I thought "this could use a slice of orange" so I flagged the waiter down and asked him. He said "we don't have any oranges.":rotfl:

I couldn't believe that they didn't have oranges in Florida! The citrus farmers probably make more money shipping them out of state, I guess.

Build your own sandwiches - they wouldn't actually do the building, but they would do the choosing of items to be on the bread like a pick one cheese, one meat, with option of lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc. and a choice of condiments (speaking of which, choice of type of bread - wholegrain in both white and wheat at least)

Fruit and cheese plates, or fruit and yogurt

Soups - more than one variety if possible

Salads - again of the build your own type with dressing available on the side.

Pastas - adults have a build your own, why shouldn't the kids (smaller portion of course and maybe not as many options but at least option of sauces such as marinara, alfredo, etc. and with or without meat)

Junior burgers, chicken sandwiches (with limited black pepper), etc.

grilled chicken with white rice and steamed veggies

At the CS restaurants I would have
1. Grilled chicken tenders
2. Grilled cheese sandwich
3. Slice of cheese pizza
4. If they would offer the mickey waffle DD would be a happy girl:)

Sides: 1 piece of fresh fruit, applesauce (the good kind like Motts), or crackers and cheese or yogurt. Milk, apple or orange juice as a drink option.

I recall when they had the mickey ear meals. They were great:)

Keep the current kids' menus, but give kids an option to get most (or any) of the adult meals at a smaller size and lower cost. There just seems to be a ridiculous amount of monotony when it comes to kids' food at Disney, which can be easily solved at any location by opening up the adult options in smaller portions for the kiddos.

I want to eat off of most of these kids menus myself. I'm just curious, are you all willing to pay more for these items? More for the child's meal plan credits? I see a lot of items I, as a cafeteria manager, think would be more expensive to provide than the current options.
