Let the Prom Drama CONTINUE . . . . . . . .

From what you have told us about your son, he will make his decision and he will be fine with it. You, like me will be more worried about him missing out on an "experience" but we are girls! Experiences of this sort mean more to us!

We do not have a prom after party but we do have one on graduation night and DS is very undecided as to whether or not he is going to go.

I hear you! I think you have identified a big part of it. They are not our little boys anymore and at the same time adult hood is not something they get to fully put into practice yet, they are in adolescent limbo! My DS is also chomping at the bit to be off to college, to be a grown up, to begin the next phase of his ADULT life. He has had it with high school and its attached drama. Then there is always the testosterone factor - they have way more of it than they know what to do with. I find myself saying to myself "resist, do not engage" .....
You are wise, Melissa. :goodvibes

Yeah, I think I'm feeling worse than DS is. And, for whatever reason, DH feels FAR worse about all of this. :confused3 I finally had to tell him to be quiet about it because while DH likes to "talk things out", sometimes he will talk a subject to death and this is one instance where I think he was starting to. :lmao:

Yeah, DS has had it with the high school "drama" and is very much looking forward to getting out of that place. And, for me, I'm looking forward to being finished with the public school administration and teachers (no personal bad experiences and I hope I don't offend you at all, Sheila  ). I finally started realizing about six months ago that it's really "all right" for DS and DD to grow up. If you have a good relationship with them, they never really "leave" you, and there is something very satisfying about watching them embark on their college paths and beyond. Plus, I will admit that it will be nice to have some "me" time, as well as some "couple" time. :)

You are lucky - last week my DH said 5 words to me from the time he walked in the door to the time he went to bed. He is kinda quiet. Here is how the evening went.

Honey, how was your day? Good (1)
How was your class? Interesting (2)
Then we sit down to dinner and he says: Pass the milk (3, 4 & 5) :lmao:

That was it, he wandered off to the computer, then went off to bed.

I actually said to him the other night. "Who am I going to talk to when DS goes to college?" His response: "You talk to your BFF and DD all the time. You could always call your Aunts, XX keeps you on the phone for hours":lmao: a really good friend of mine says I can talk to her DH since he never shuts up!
for me, I'm looking forward to being finished with the public school administration and teachers (no personal bad experiences and I hope I don't offend you at all, Sheila  ).
Oh I hear that! This morning I swung by DD's school to get her most recent report card. She left it in the envelope we have to sign and turned it back in just before she went off track. Now she, along with her teacher is off track until the first week of May and I need a current report card for the Charter School enrollment. I go into the office, I request her recent report card and they said "you have to get that from her teacher" I told them she was off track. They said there was nothing they could do, the report cards are kept on the teachers computers in the classrooms and only the teacher has the password. The lady in the office says, "well you can get it when she comes back". I said, "no, I need it this week" and she just looks at me and says, "she will get another one at the end of the year" (now what has that got to do with anything? I said "thank you" and turned and walked away before I said something nasty. Now what kind of BS is this? What if her teacher left, eloped, ran off to Europe and never came back! I'm not buying it, someone has to have access to report cards.

I'm just not quite there yet emotionally. I'm working on it.......of course with DD only cruising up on 10, the me time is still a long way off...............

I was talking to a former co-worker about this exact subject just the other day. His DD has graduated, has a teaching credential and has been teaching in CA for the past couple of years. She just moved back here (in with Mom and Dad) and is subbing until she "decides what direction to go in" meanwhile, his DS has been in and out of 3 different "art/performance/photography" schools and is currently back home also. So, as my former co-worker said to me "Don't worry, they come back" ;)

We went off to Freshman Advisory this past weekend. Okay, the math options made me dizzy. Now DS is no math whizz by any means and we are all confused. Thank goodness for advisors! DS is registered for the fall semester:cheer2: He is very excited and got quite an eyefull when he started seeing the dollars add up as he added classes. I think he finally had a little bit of college sticker shock.

Our weekend weather was beautiful - almost 80 - we are not holding our breaths, this is N. NV the weather teases us. We figure since prom is this weekend that it will snow!

Sheila:
How are you doing?
Has the school board lynched the idiot yet? Is DD winding down in school? Does she come home for the summer? How is the inlaw situation coming along?

I finally did it - I fired my housekeeper this morning. We have had the same lady for about 9 years. She has never been the best but she was reliable and trustworthy until she go a male assistant. Recently all the Xanax and Vicodine in our house disappeared. (we didn't have alot, just a few of the V's and I do have an RX for Xanax for when I fly which is often) Now, I know I have people in and out of my house all the time but the drugs are in the kitchen cabinet and unless DS is selling them on the corner ;) then I have a problem. I did notify her of the missing drugs, I did not accuse. I asked her how well she knew her assistant etc. This was about 4 months ago. Then DS informs me that his expensive razor and several packages of blades are missing. That was the last straw. We had been putting up with sub par work the last couple of years because we had had her so long etc. BTW - I did not get into all the issues I feel that I warned her once over the missing drugs. I told her that the upcoming college expenses were more than we anticipated and that we were going to have to cut out some of our household expenses. This was all on her answering machine - she never answers her phone, she just returns calls.

Now the bigger issue! Who is going to keep the health dept. at bay????:scared:

Okay - off to lunch with DS, off to mail my tax extension......

Have a great day!

Awoke to it snowing this morning :headache:

Good morning! It sounds like both of you have been busy.

Sandy, I assure you, no offense here. I have to deal with some of these people even more than you do, and some days I want to bang my head on my desk.

Melissa, I think you made the right choice about your cleaning help. That's what's really kept me from hiring somebody myself.

It's been an eventful week. We had a board meeting last Tuesday night. I was there from 5 - 10:30 p.m. (no that's not a typo). It was wild. The Supt. did NOT get to hire the woman from Memphis (yes, he recommended her again). He also did NOT get to move the people around that he wanted to move around (administrators). There were lots of other things - an impassioned speech of support from one of his constituents basically telling the school board (not very tactfully either) that they had better start getting along with him, or "other actions will be taken". :rolleyes1 Unfortunately for his constituents, the school board did not appear to be either threatened or impressed.

In the course of the meeting, he made the mistake of recommending one of the individuals that he was trying to move for a position that I have held in the past. The position is a teacher pay position, but the salary that he recommended her at was not teacher pay. (She didn't want to be moved, and the board didn't let him.)

Once I saw the salary, I emailed him and requested that position at that salary (she and I have the same years experience and the same certificate). I have held that position and am currently certified for it (unlike library where I'm having to take classes).

He had upped the salary to try to get her to go quietly, but that's irrelevant. That was the salary he recommended. I don't see how he's going to get out of it.

Anyway, I emailed him Wednesday morning, and texted him telling him that I had sent the email and for him to please review it. He responded with OK. I heard nothing. Thursday afternoon (just before I left), I emailed and requested a meeting to discuss the issue since he had not responded. Would you believe that I still have not gotten a response? It looks like I'm headed to the school board next.

Sheila:
We should rename this thread: As the worm squirms!
A 5 1/2 Hr. Board Meeting! Oh dear! Glad to hear the school board is holding their ground and not bowing to the intimidation.
Can you just apply for the position instead of having to do the library job? If he is trying to get someone hired for it then the position exists, right?

How long is idiots term???

Sandy:
Any new fishies??????? I don't know why I always forget to ask.

Gotta run ladies, wanted to say Hey!

The position is open due to someone retiring. It's at the Vo-Tech where my office is now, and I wouldn't even have to move my office. If I were given this position, I wouldn't be librarian (and I wouldn't have to keep taking these courses to get certified - 21 hours in all, but 9 of them would be next fall which is a lot while trying to work too).

I also found out today that two of the board members' (2 of the 3 who are standing up to him) cars were keyed during the meeting Monday night. Sounds like high class folks, huh? :sad2:

(ETA: I had to move my . For some reason it was up by my Good Morning! It kinda looked like I was mad ya'll were having a good morning ;).)

But, you are getting straight A's! ;) I hope it works out. Any hope that it will? Would you take it at a lessor salary just to have it? Of course I agree go for the higher salary, afterall he started it!:rolleyes1

Sounds like the type of followers an idiot and coward would have.

Hey Dr. Doolittle,;) I have a rodent question for you. DD has 2 pet rats. Last night I noticed that one of them had a goopey eye - this morning the same eye is now gray and puffy (she usually has black eyes) it is really gross looking. Vet not in today - don't really want to rush to the ER vet and drop mega bucks on a rat. Any advice?

Here's the kicker (and it really burns me up). I've tried to play fair and be straight all the way through this. Because my job is actually being discontinued, my situation was different than the others. I found out today that the board wanted me to be Technology Coordinator (same or better pay), but he told them no, that I really wanted to go to the library. Yeah, right, I really WANTED a lower paying job. :headache:

As far as the rat goes, I do have some advice. This is what I always do. I keep antibiotic opthalmic ointment on hand because somebody (dog, cat, horse, somebody :rotfl2: ) comes up with an eye problem from time to time. I always try it before I take them to the vet (I have to be cost conscious considering the number I have). It almost always works.

Now, you say, but Sheila, I don't have any antibiotic opthalmic ointment. :confused3 AHA! I still may have an answer for you! When my gray cats that have the immune issues were little, I had to buy that stuff regularly from the vet (it has 3 different ones in it: Neo-Poly-Bac).

I started getting it at the drugstore because it was cheaper. My pharmacist told me that he would sell it to me as long as I wanted but that the stuff in the regular Neosporin tubes was the same as the stuff in the opthalmic ointment (just cheaper than the opthalmic stuff ;)). It saved me some money.

I always put it right inside the bottom eyelid to make sure it gets in good, but how much lid does a rat have???? Good luck!

Now, like any responsible individual, I'm going to tell you now that you should check with your own pharmacist to be sure. :thumbsup2

is it because he has a cronie he wants to put into the Tech position or is he wary of the fact that you are smart, see right thru him and being in the position of Tech Coordinator could jeopardize further mischief?

Thank you :worship: I actually have an RX eye drop (2 kinds since DD is prone to goopie eyes) as well as the anti-biotic ointment. I have Bacitracin (Poly-Bac w/o the Neo) - Then there are all the goodies from DH's cataract surgery!

I'll let you know how it goes and how much eyelid a rat has! I'm thinking not much, but poor Nibbles - that eye is just :scared1: Last night DD said "we might have to put her to sleep" at which time her brother pipes up with how silly it would be to take the $4 rat to the vet and then he proceeds to come up with ideas of his own on how to do the deed. He was being a beastly big brother and while not totally serious he was only half teasing...... :rolleyes1 It didn't seem to bother DD, she knows he is all bark and no bite.

Thanks again

Sheila:
Thanks so much for the rat advice! It is working. :cool1: Poor Nibbles, when I got home last night her eye looked like a huge zit (:scared: creepy, freaky gross) and she had developed a lump under her jaw which I am assuming is the infection. I didn't even bother with the lower level ointments, I went straight for the strong eye drops that we use on DD who is resistent to the less powerful drops. I did 4 applications last night (stayed up past midnight) and when I wandered out this morning at 4 the eye was clearing up, and by 8 this morning her eye is once again black and the puss blister is gone. She still has a lump so I will continue with the drops for several more days and then probably switch to an ointment just to be sure. My DH was amazed also at the difference. It never occurred to me to use human meds on the rat! Thank you, my DD says thanks also! As does my wallet and of course Nibbles.

Hey Girls!!! :goodvibes

Sheila, I hope that you're able to work you way into this position. It sounds like it's right up your alley. Your superintendant sounds like such a winner!! How on earth can he think he can maneuver things to his liking?!? Glad to hear that the School Board is giving him some significant pushback!!

I'm very sorry about the keying of cars - how stupid are these folks?

I am in awe of you two - Dr. Doolittles- both of you. Healing rats! :worship:

Yes, Melissa, we did get more fish - two clownfish. One male, one female. The male's name is Nemo (original, huh?) and the female's is Marla (DS said that Nemo's dad's name is Marlon, so we used a variation on that). They are very cute, but they've been freaking us out because while the damselfishes "sleep" in the rocks at night, the clownfishes swim near the top of the tank all night. I verified on the internet yesterday that this is indeed normal behavior, but we were freaking out thinking that we were sold some psycotic fish!!! :lmao: We also put in two more corals - one looks like a small bunch of bright green flowers and the other looks like a brown potato chip!!

The lacrosse has been going well, although they lost 2 of their last 3 games to some really tough competition. They've got 3 regular season games left and should qualify for the state playoffs. The team is playing only "okay" right now, but hasn't really progressed in skill level. That needs to change if they're going to make it beyond the first state playoff game!! DS is doing well (yes I am hopelessly biased :) ), but they've moved him to defense and they need him in other areas as well. Guess we should have cloned him!!!

Melissa, I am sympathetic to your snow. We've had beautiful weather over the past few days, but we're supposed to get snow tomorrow. Then it's supposed to be 75 degree weather on Saturday. :confused3 Welcome to springtime in Colorado!!

Sheila, any more wedding updates? Inquiring minds want to know!!:rotfl:

Will write more later. Oh - this is Prom weekend, and I think DS is going skiing with one of his friends. They don't have school on Friday, and DS needs a nice break. Melissa, I hope that your DS and his girlfriend have a wonderful time!!! You need to make sure to tell us all about it and post some pics. :lovestruc

No, his constituents want this woman to stay in this job. She does a good job (although her salary is somewhat questionable, as I mentioned before). I did have a school board member tell me that she had seen this woman take credit for things that she was pretty sure I had done (I know of one pretty big thing for sure). It doesn't matter anyway though. His constituents want her, so he'll keep her.

Tell him that it's NOT a good idea to upset younger sisters. That could come back to get him big time sometime in the future! :rotfl2:

I'm so glad that she's better! :thumbsup2

Like I said, it almost always works for me. The only problem you may have is the lump under her jaw. If the infection has gotten into her bloodstream, it may have set up in the tissues and may require oral antibiotics. If you happened to have some of the liquid antibiotics (like amoxicillin) hanging around in your refrigerator, you might be able to go online and figure the dosage based on her weight. I've done that before with dogs and cats, but of course, a rat wouldn't weigh very much, so you'd have to be very careful about what you were doing (might even call your vet to ask for guidelines).

When you're the unofficial local humane society ;) , you have to be creative to be able to keep it up. :rotfl:

Glad to hear that the School Board is giving him some significant pushback!!

Me too (and very relieved).

I'm very sorry about the keying of cars - how stupid are these folks?

Apparently, pretty stupid... :sad2:

My husband wouldn't even be surprised. He would just shake his head... :rotfl:

Nemo sounds like our cat with most of her tail missing (when we found her, most of her tail was missing, and most of what was left had to be amputated). We named her Bobbie (as in bobtailed cat  ), also not too original.

The fish sound really interesting. I would enjoy watching them myself (and my cats would like it even better! :scared: DD's cat likes to stick his front paw down in the bath water, so he might be inclined to do a little "fishing" if we had them! :scared1: ).

I actually think we have things pretty well handled. DFi said that he things his mother is going to use the same lady for the reheasal dinner (it will be held there where the rehearsal is). She thought that would make things easy for them.

Will write more later. Oh - this is Prom weekend, and I think DS is going skiing with one of his friends. They don't have school on Friday, and DS needs a nice break. Just an update: I received an email from the Supt. telling me that he would "honor my request for a meeting" (DH said that he sure has an elevated opinion of himself.) He neglected to apologize for his lack of response for the past week. :rolleyes1

Nonetheless, he said I would hear from his receptionist by the day's end (I assumed with an appointment time). I stayed until 5 p.m. (I'm supposed to leave at 4 p.m.) and did not hear from her. I sent him a polite but straightforward message that pointed that fact out.

I may or may not hear from him tomorrow. At this point, it's starting to look like I need to obtain legal counsel and request a formal hearing (not sure they can do anything but not sure they can't either). There is no reason whatsoever for this to play out this way. :sad2:

How's Nibbles today?

Supt. managed to have his receptionist call me this morning. We meet Monday afternoon (like he couldn't make time before then  ).

We were out Monday, but I had to go to a meeting out of town, so I'm taking off tomorrow. Have a good weekend!

Sorry - payroll day - I hate weekly payroll!

Oh I can't wait for Tuesday morning for the catch up! He's stalling in an attempt to "be in control". weasel

Nibbles - thank you for asking - she seems to be getting better, the eye is less and less goopey and this morning no sign of puss. The lump under her jaw still has me concerned but I am keeping an eye on it. It is not getting bigger and may be shrinking, not sure I was in a hurry this morning. I don't have any antibiotics laying around but BFF next door does. Her DH has to take something before he can have dental work and so they have a stash. Now the question, how much to give her and how to give it to her? My DH suggested a pretzel with a little bit of peanut butter and maybe 1/4 of a pill crushed up once a day? What do you think?

Sandy:
The fish sound so pretty and I love the names and the reasoning behind them. When do your regular season lacross games finish up? Need to start rooting for you on a State level! :cheer2:

Well ladies, hate to type and run but today is a busy day.......I have a nail appt. and the Senior portraits are tonight:cool1:

http://www.rmca.org/Articles/dchart.htm Take a look at the chart and see if you can find the antibiotic that you have. You may be able to figure your dosage based on that. Be sure to figure the dosage carefully, so you don't give her too much. I would also check around with friends who have small children (it's not uncommon to have a little bit of the bubblegum medicine left in a fridge).

Hope this helps. Have a great day!

(And BTW, I agree with you that he's stalling for just that reason. I intend to go ahead and prepare a letter to request a hearing with the school board and have it with me. If the meeting goes the way I anticipate, I'll hand it to him before I leave - with copies to all school board members. I think he's still really mad at the school board and the fact that he's not getting his way and has decided to make an example out of me. Now we'll see how that goes.)

Thanks Sheila! I have been looking for the "pink stuff" just most friends kids are now tweens - teens. BFF has a toddler but he actually made it thru the winter without any pink stuff (he received tubes in his ears last fall)
Nibbles is looking better and better every day - the lump is not getting bigger and may be shrinking. Still keeping an eye on it - I may just cave and call the vet. I'll check the website with the drugs I can come up with and then decide. Thanks so much.

:headache: 'm so sorry that you are having so much trauma with your job and will keep my fingers crossed that it all works out. I think you are handling it the best way possible, hang in there

Pictures went well last night, I can't wait to see them!

In this mornings paper: Weekend Forecast, Lots of wind and possible snow! Of course, it's Prom! :headache:

I'm outta here soon, I promised DD lunch and an afternoon at the candle making place.
Everyone have a great weekend

If the meeting goes the way I anticipate, I'll hand it to him before I leave - with copies to all school board members. I think he's still really mad at the school board and the fact that he's not getting his way and has decided to make an example out of me. Now we'll see how that goes.)
I agree - he's stalling, hoping that you'll lose your nerve to go toe-to-toe with him!

I love your idea of having copies of your request for a hearing to hand to him and to all of the school board members!! :thumbsup2

Glad to hear that the pictures went well!!!!

Sorry about your forecast - I think we're supposed to be fairly warm.

Have fun with your DD today!!

We have two more regular season lacrosse games, next Thursday and Saturday. We SHOULD beat these teams rather handily, but as you know, if you're not prepared, the opposite can happen.

I hope your DS has a great time at the Prom!!!!
