The time has come for me to share our plans on this board. I have enjoyed everyone else's planning so much, but felt I couldn't "officially" plan until our date was confirmed.

We are over the moon that we got our first choice of time/date/place...but let me start from the beginning!

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US - Me, Carol ( now 44) DF, Iain ( a little bit younger! ) We met at a friends New Years Eve Party in 97 and bought a house together in London two years later. We had Maddie in 2003 - she will be 4 1/2 at the time of the wedding. I also have a son from my first marriage who is 17. Deciding to get married was more of a mutual agreement than a proposal, we went to a friends wedding just before christmas and it got us thinking...

WHY WE CHOSE DISNEY FOR OUR WEDDING - Weddings here in the UK average about $40,000. As much as we wanted to get married, we just couldn't justify spending that ammount of money on one day, holding a party for lots of people you feel you just have to invite. So we started looking at combining getting married with the one big spend we have each year - our vacation! We initially looked at getting married on a cruise and searched Disney weddings as a long shot because we really thought the cost would be out of our league. We couldn't believe how reasonable the intimate wedding packages were and immeadiately decided that this is what we wanted to do.

We are DVC members and we are going to "pay" for accomodation for Iains Dad, Sister, Brother in law and their 2 children, apart from the 3 of us ( my son decided he didn't want to come away with us, which is a shame because I always sort of thought that if I married again he would give me away, but it's his desision ) these will be the only other members of the wedding party as my parents passed away just before I met Iain and Iain's Mum is also no longer with us.
We are really happy that both Iains Dad and Sister & family can make it. Apart from the wedding itself, it will be a really great holiday and Maddie is already excited about going on holiday with her cousins as well as being a bridesmaid.Thinking about the timing of our wedding , if we had rushed into getting married when I was expecting her, it would have denied her this chance to be a princess for a day and to see how much her mummy and daddy love each other:love:

THE ENGAGEMENT - OK, so we had already decided when and where we wanted to get married. We chose May 8th purely based on the length of our stay at WDW, avoiding the weekend. Sea Breeze Point was a no brainer because the Boardwalk is our DVC home resort, it's where we always stay, and we have walked past SBP so may times without realising it was a wedding venue ( I thought it was a bandstand:rolleyes: ) we wanted the 12 o clock slot because 10am is just too early to get ready for, 2pm will be siesta time time for half the wedding party( 18 month old, 70+ Dad and possibly the 2 four year olds!) and we thought it's more likely to rain at 4pm!!!

booking the date seemed a bit more tricky. We had already planned to cruise the Med this May and would be in Gilbratar on the 8th.So we said," wouldnt it be great if we could get a ring in (duty and tax free) Gilbraltar? " Iain phoned Disney a couple of days before we set sail just to clarify what time we should ring and spoke to Doreen. She was great, she said we didn't need to stress about phoning, she would log our first to third choice of venue/time straight away and at 8am EST on the 8th it would automatically upload to their system and she would email us to let us know what we had got.
Well, without a phone call to stress about ,we had a great day in Gib. Plenty of monkeys! and we found a ring that I loved. As soon as we got back on board, we checked for emails and there was one from Doreen with the contract as an attachment BUT we couldnt open the attachement with the rubbish internet connection on the ship, so we knew we had got something but we didnt know if we had got our first choice or not!!!
no worries, we emailed her again and after sorting Maddie out with a in room babysitter, we went for a meal at one of the speciality restaraunts to celebrate. I thought Iain would "officially" give me my ring during the meal but he didn't. After we finished we went up on deck just as the sun was setting and he got down on one knee and asked me..........of course I said yes LOL

I managed to grab someone to take a couple of shots of us. Here we are just after the ring finally went on my finger, and before the sun went down!
So now we are back home, we can really start planning. Actually, we did a fair bit before the date was official, including booking Randy Chapman, thanks to all the great things everyone has said about him on this board and seeing the beautiful photos he has taken.
More to follow........

Hi there. Loved reading your story so far and am looking forward to hearing all about your planning. Sorry to hear your son won't be with you in Florida - teenagers :confused3 :headache: We have a 21 year old son who hasn't been on vacation with us since he was 15! Says its a vacation for him here without us! :rotfl2:

Anyway, have fun planning. I can't see your photo though, just a little red cross!

Thanks mcarthur, yes it is a shame that my son won't be joining us. I hope he doesn't regret it after the event. He's not against us getting married or anything, but he can't see the point to anyone getting married. To him it's no big deal, so it's just like he's not comming on a regular holiday with us. We originally planned to get wed in the summer so it wouldn't interfere with school, but once he made his decision we changed our plans to May as the flights are much cheaper as you know! so of course, now he can't alter his mind because of school! to be honest although I will miss him, at least I won't hear him moaning about our plans being boring or him not wanting to wear what I want him to wear etc etc.

I'm sure every Bride out there has an idea in their head from the very beginning of how they want their wedding to be. Thats how it was for me. When we were on holiday last year we spent a couple of days in Ft Lauderdale and there was a wedding going on while we were there. The bride wore a traditional gown, but all the men in the wedding party wore Hawaiian type shirts and chinos, it just looked so tropical and laid back, both Iain and I were impressed.
Once we started to plan a "destination" wedding we knew instantly that was the look we wanted for our wedding. This is second time around for both of us and we want it to be as far removed from our original weddings as possible. Finding the Island Bouquet on the Disney wedding site with it's tropical green cybidium orchids, burgundy calla lillies and orange roses was the icing on the cake for me because the colours and look are perfect for what we were after.

THE DRESS - One of the first questions Iain asked me once we started planning was "what sort of dress do you want?" and I said straight away that I wanted an easy to pack floaty silk dress, similar to some I have for cruising from Monsoon ( no Monsoons in the US, but UK brides will know it well! ) but when I looked on their website, they had some beautiful bridal dresses so I changed my mind straight away. There was one dress I loved and although I had no intention of buying it yet, I phoned up to find how long it would stay current for. The girl I spoke to was really helpful but she said " it won't be restocked, if you want it, buy it now!"
so I did - the only problem is I want to lose a whole lot of weight before the wedding so I had to guess what size to buy. so ladies, I am stating it here - I WILL BE A SIZE UK14 ( US 12?) BY THE WEDDING!!!!:scared: . Anyhow, heres the dress

Having decided on my dress, next to plan was everyone else's attire! As previously mentioned, Iain wants to go tropical and has decided on a Tommy Bahama silk shirt in a burnt orange colour together with beige/neutral chinos, no palm trees or anything!, just plain. To fit in with our colour scheme we would like to get similar shirts in a burgundy colour for brother in law, Dad and nephew ( age 4 ) and get them all to wear beige trousers too. We are going to Vero Beach this November and have a whole list of things we want to get while we are there, including the shirts.
The 2 little bridemaids/flower girls, our Daughter Maddie ( 4 ) and our neice (19 months at the time of the wedding ) are having cute dresses I found on ebay! a lady will be making them for us once I give her the approximate sizes next January. Once I had paid for them, we had some concerns regarding how hot the satin bodice would be and now the dressmaker has kindly said she will substitute a light organza instead of which she sent me swatches. I can't wait to see these dresses made up, they have petals trapped inside layers of netting over the skirt.

Sister in law has proved a little more difficult, because she wanted something similar to mine with regard to the neckline ( neither of us wants to worry about strap marks as we will have been in Florida for little over a week at the time of the wedding!). I want her to choose something that she feels she can wear again, even if it needs to be shortened first, as long as it's burgundy, I don't mind what she chooses. We both liked a Alvina Valenta dress that looked pretty promising from the pictures, but after paying £35 ($70) to get a bridal shop to get it in to try on ( yes really! and it wasn't even the right colour! ) it wasn't what we expected. But, while looking at that dress we spotted another that I think may be "the one". watch this space!

My shoes are one of the other items we are hoping to get whilst in Florida. I have looked at every site I can find in the UK and didn't find anything I liked. I want something in a wide fit with not too pointy a toe. I also want my toes covered as I don't like them! I have found a stockist of these shoes in Vero Beach, so I think I will give them a ring a couple of months before we go and order them if I can

I wanted a tiara that matched my colour scheme, but couldnt find anything I liked, so I bought all the stuff and had a go at making my own. I'm really pleased with the results. See what you all think

can you see my hidden Mickey:)
I then started looking for something for the little bridesmaids, but again, nothing was quite right, so guess what? I made one! Here's Maddie modelling it.

The white looking flowers are really a pale lime green, it's just the flash reflecting off them. It turned out just what I wanted and I will make another one for our little neice, but not yet as I can't guess how big I will need it until nearer the time.

PLANNING A NEW ME
Well, I can't do anything about being an older bride without dabbling in time travel, but I can make sure I look the best I possibly can on the day. Here is my plan so far
weight - as I've already said, I WILL get into my wedding dress! I am currently a UK 18 ( US 14/16?) and need to be a UK 14 ( or less, I really don't mind having the dress taken in, LOL ) I have lost 19lb so far. It was 26lb until the cruise, but 7lb went back on with all the cocktails and 3 course meals , but I'm now trying to get back on course. I know that I need to increase my exercise/ activity, but I'm really not a gym person.
skin - call me paranoid, but I really don't want any more lines or wrinkles than I really have to for my photos. Randy is good, but there are limits:rolleyes: so I have started being really really good to my skin including using Boots beauty serum ( UK Brides will know, this is the stuff there has been so much hype about recently, but I started using it in January and I really think it's good! ) every night and morning.
teeth - I am on a mission to undo 40 years of tea drinking etc etc, I have been using whitening toothpastes for a couple of months now and had my teeth whitened at the spa while on the cruise. I think there's a bit of a difference.
Hands - I am trying to be good to my nails, but I confess to nibbling them from time to time. I am making sure I put a good hand cream on every night though.
If anyone can think of anything else I could or should be doing please share!

I would love to see a picture of you wearing the tiara. It looks beutiful btw. I can't believe weddings in the UK are so expensive; that would explain why there are so many UK brides on this board. Best of luck with your weight loss and keep us informed on your plans! :)

Thanks Iluffyou, I haven't any photos of me wearing the tiara at the moment. I bought a lot of tiara making bits to try out lots of styles, but once I tried this first one on I knew it was "the one"!

hi Carol,

love reading your planning journal! and your dress is lovely. I wouldn't worry so much about that older bridal thing - I'm 50 ( ) and getting married in october! just bought my shoes and undergarments for the wedding this weekend - great sales due to the holiday!! I went with beaded silver flip flop sandals...they look gorgeous and I will be comfortable!

best of luck - looking forward to more...:goodvibes

Thanks Michelle, I love the dress too! the photo doesn't do it justice, it is covered in little beads and has a floaty train at the back, falling from the empire line. I just hope it's not too heavy to take as hand luggage because I don't want to risk losing it in a case!
I'm not really worried about being an older bride, I just want to look the best I possibly can - trying my best to keep any wrinkles to a minium etc etc. I'm already used to being an "older"mum - Maddie turned out to be my surprise 40th birthday present and I thought I would feel so old on the maternity ward, but there were quite a few, shall we say, mature mums.
I shall be proud to wear my ears round the parks!
