Hi. I am new to your boards. I think it's great that not only does this site talk about Disney but they specifically have a forum for camping. We will be camping at FW for the first time 12/24/08-1/2/09. We are soooooo excited. Last year we were fortunate enough to purchase our first pop-up and invest in the DVC. I love camping! It is the only time my DH will sit still. Our almost-teenage son loves to keep the fire going so I'm not sure what his hobby will be on this trip. I suppose this trip will be much different than Yogi Bear camping in Wisconsin though. We are hoping to utilize the marina and take advantage of nature.

For years I have envied the people camping at WDW during Christmas. Now I will be one of them. Unfortunately I waited too long to make my ressie and only got a partial hook up but at least we're in. I try three times a day to upgrade. We waited so long because we wanted to make ressies through DVC but that didn't quite work out because of everything being booked.

Anyhow, I'm so excited about December that I tend to forget that we will be at AKLV in June from the 8th to the 19th. Since we are going twice within a year we decided to go all out and get AP. Can't beat the DVC price on those.

We are limited when we can go to WDW now since I am a teacher and our son is in 7th grade. My DH, being a paramedic working 24/72 usually can make trades to accommodate.

Just wanted to introduce myself in case you start seeing a lot of weird posts from a stranger. I may be strange, especially to my students, but please don't consider me a stranger. When it gets closer to December I will post some specifics about us and maybe someone will come visit. We are limited to two loops in the partial hook-up so at least that narrows it down.

Nice to be here.

Just keep trying and I bet you will get the upgrade you want. You will love it at the fort. One time and we were addicted.

Kim

Welcome.

The Fort is wonderful. After you go once you will want to keep coming back for more.

We love camping too. Funny, it is the only way I can keep my husband from working on stuff. If we are at home he doesn't relax he is just constantly doing something. Camping is the only time he really relaxes. (other then cruising but we can't go on a cruise once a month or more).

Keep trying to upgrade your site. You should be able to eventually.

Welcome to the boards.

You will find we all have our little quirks, don't worry about being strange! Don't give up on the preferred site. As it gets closer people will cancel as their plans don't work out like they planned.

Welcome! Once you start checking in here..you will be addicted. A nice bunch of folks! :thumbsup2 I'm sure if you keep checking daily you will be able to secure your site preference.

Hi.

Nice to be here.

Hi Kim :wave2: I will be there next Christmas as well with my 3 kids who by then will be 14 (dd) 12 (dd) and 7 (ds). There are quite a few of us going and we are hoping to meet up at some point for a cocktail hour :cool1:

Is your pop up one with a black tank ?? If not I wouldn't worry about only having a partial site. The comfort stations are very nice for bathrooms and showers. And it's my understanding that the pop up/tent campers use the toilets to dump their gray water.

Hi Kim it's so nice to meet you, I've always wanted to camp at FW at Christmas time but haven't gotten the chance yet. I will probably in a couple of years.

We use to have a pop-up but as we got bigger :rolleyes1 we had to get a tt.
My son-in-law is also a paramedic and my dd is a 911 operater so I know how crazy the hours can be.

Have fun planning, that's half the fun..lol. pirate:

No black tank for us. You are all so nice here. Shannone, I would be careful and keep an eye on your DDs since our DS will be 13 at that time. Cocktail hour sounds appealing. In fact, we have been having cocktail hour here for the last 2 hours. It's a snow day and we have done absolutely nothing productive today except the cocktail hour. BTW our son is about 5 foot 8 with blue eyes and light brown hair. He enjoys basketball, soccer and theater (he actually have performed in plays for about 4 years). You might want to warn your DDs.

Just what I needed to hear Kim, thanks !! :scared1: Life in becoming increasingly scary as the girls get older. And my DH is starting to freak out. He convienantly forgets that we met when we were 14 and started dating at 16. If he had his way the girls would be locked up until they were 30 !! :rotfl:

You used DVC in your post did you use points for your FW stay? We just booked SSR for 12/28-1/3 I really like to stay @FW but it is also nice to stay in the DVC resorts, The wife wants to try to get into the WL @ the 7 month window but I told her not to get her hopes up. Enjoy your trip maybe I'll take a walk thru FW to get my camping fix while there.

I may be strange......

Strange??? Okay, lemme see.... you're in Chicago, you're enjoying a snow day, you're having an all-day happy hour (with Kungaloosh, of course), you're anxiously anticipating a trip to FtW at the end of the year.... strange??? Nope, pretty normal in my books!!!

Anyone who creatively turns a snow day into an all-day happy hour is automatically a member of the "Fort Wild Klub"!!! (Feisty, Ornery, Road Travelers, Willfully Imbibling Libations, Draughts, Kungaloosh, Liberally, Until Blitzed)

Welcome to the Klub, Kim!!!

Tell Chad I'm right there with him. My dd is only 10 but I know it's just a matter of time before boys are going to be in the picture. Why didn't I wish for a boy.:worship: :worship: :worship:

Hi kmurawski had welcome to the boards, I also saw you were using DVC. We have been a DVC member for about 4 years now and I find it very hard to get a reservation at the Fort using DVC. Just wondering if you or anyone else is having any luck using DVC for the Fort. If I had it my way I would sell our 310 DVC points and just make cash ressies since I have to make cash ressies most of the time anymore and now since they are charging a $95 per ressie per ressie change I really don't see the value of it for the Fort anymore.

Sorry I'm done with my DVC rant,
Chris

No luck on using DVC at FW. That's OK though. We're quite happy using the points at AKLV. Then we just have to go back twice as often!

Just wanted to shout HOWDY from probably one of the more eccentric members of the forum. Let me know if you need instructions in mixing Kungaloosh (the unofficial drink of FW), making bars of soap from leftover nibbins in the shower, training your dog to poop at will or any of the other things I am known for here on the Camping forum.

KUNGALOOSH!

Welcome Kim! We'll be at the fort on Dec 20 - 30 (hoping to extend),2008 with our 16 year old twins...the most handsome young man and most beautiful daughter...did I mention they are perfect?

Keep trying for the upgrade ressie. It will happen.

I'm not one of the eccentric ones on the board...I just stay confused but in my confusion, I haven't lost the addiction to the boards. :worship:

Welcome Kim. It looks like there are going to be a number of us down there at the same time.

If he had his way the girls would be locked up until they were 30 !! :rotfl:

And that is a problem because... ... ...?

I would absolutely love the Kungaloosh instructions. More importantly I would really like the training your dog to poop instructions. Could you change that to pee though. We have 3 dogs. The Australian Shepherd and Greyhound are no problem but the Bichon just pees at will. I am open to suggestions!
