Lesson learned. Need more days in Disney!!! Aug 2010 (NEW 1/20-COMPLETE)

Looked like fun times at DHS despite the rain Yuki.

Mmmm, that turkey foccacia sandwich looks good. And, to be honest, I'm not exactly sure where Starring Rolls is either.

Congrats on the new job!

I GOT A KEURIG FOR CHRISTMAS!!! The B70 model. Costco had a great deal on it. It was $179 CAD for that model, plus the reusable filter and 60 K-Cups. I mean, the model itself already costs $189 with 12 K-Cups. So Canadians, if you've been wanting it, I recommend you get it.

Because I have a day off, I will be updating!! Trying to get this done soon so I'll have time to just catch up on all those TRs and PTRs I'm terribly behind on. So sorry for not keeping up!!! Work has taken a toll on me. I'm at different venues everyday on my feet, so no computer to just browse during work (like so many of you, you know who you are).

Congrats on the new job!

Thanks Glen! Starring Rolls is such a tiny little place, but has a decent sized little courtyard outside of it with tables. It's on the left when you head onto Sunset.

Chapter 34a. Day 7 pt.3- Farewell to Hollywood

It was still drizzling when we decided to try the Lights!Motors!Action! show. We had no idea whether there would still be a show, but the gates weren't closed so we headed in anyways. Boy, that theatre is HUGE. It was also all dripping wet, even though there's a roof over the benches. We carefully made our way up the stairs and found a space in front of the stage. Good thing we brought those towels! We were able to wipe up a dry seat for ourselves. It was also pretty cold because it had been so wet.

This was our view.
DSC01006.jpg

Ok, so not that much in the center.

We didn't take any pictures because it's hard to convey the show in still photos. So....Andrew took a BUNCH of videos on his camera!

We were very surprised and SO IMPRESSED with this show! I mean not only was it a lot of fun, but they did it with all that rain everywhere! I love the part when they film the "movie" and then show it to us. That's so cool. I didn't know what to expect in this show, but I will definitely be coming back to watch.

As the show wore on, it got drier and drier. After the show, we explored the Streets of America some more now that it stopped raining. This is the part of the parks I didn't go to on my first trip. Always something to discover! Also, we never found Pixar Place...

Love how Disney does this.
DSC01008.jpg

Hey, how did we get to the West Coast?
DSC01009.jpg

Backlot Tour was another first for the both of us. The standby time was 25mins but I assumed it would be like all other Disney rides where the wait is actually less than that.

Not for the Backlot Tour. A 25min wait is a 25min wait. My feet were hurting so bad!! Lesson number 23. I need better footwear..

It was pretty interesting. Favourite part is actually before we board the trams when you go through the props warehouse. So much to look at! If my feet weren't hurting so much, I would've spent more time there.

I was also careful to place Andrew on the far left when we got on the tram. I knew what to expect at Catastrophe Canyon, which made watching Andrew's reaction even better! He actually jumped away from the side, hahaha.

My favourite work room is definitely the one with the costumes. I want to go on a tour that takes me back there.

I love this piano. I'm a huge POTC fan, so why wouldn't I? I also really love Davy Jones.
DSC01012.jpg

Um, not sure why Andrew took this photo. It's too blurry for me to read the plaque.
DSC01014.jpg

Right across from the exit was the Honey, I shrunk the kids! playset. Being the 6 year old that I am, we had to go in. It was so much fun exploring every little thing! My favourite part is the dog's nose. I was a little too big for the slide, so I left that for the kiddies.

And then I came across this ant looking for a fight.
DSC01015.jpg

Bring it on, I can take you!
DSC01016.jpg

That's right, succumb to my might!
DSC01017.jpg

What the?
DSC01018.jpg

You brought back-up! That's not fair!

And so, we ran for it.

All the way to San Fran.
DSC01019.jpg

Oh hey, I found the Indiana Jones notes! It was one little line. "Went to catch 3:15 Indy show". Very smart of me.
DSC01020.jpg

It was still pretty early in the day, but we had planned a few days ago to drop by DtD one last time before our trip was over. So instead of trying our luck at Animation Academy or Voyage of the Little Mermaid again, we headed straight for our favourite ride, TOT.

The wait time was only 5mins!!! At 5pm!!! On a Fantasmic night!! I think the rain drove some people out. Just an example that even rain can't ruin Disney.

"5th ride of the trip! Won't be the last" is what I wrote down right before we got into the elevator.

We actually asked to be in the front because we've been in the back on our last 4 rides.
DSC01023.jpg

We couldn't figure out which pose to do. This is what happened.

On our 6th ride, there were only 2 other people in line with us! But then more people showed up. Would've been KILLER if we got the elevator to ourselves.
DSC01028.jpg

Hmmm, very curious indeed.

On our last ride of the trip, we had a little girl that was unfortunately forced on the ride by her parents. Unlike the case with other kids where they come out loving it, this little girl was screaming, "Get me off! Get me off!" the whole ride. It was really hard to hear, the poor little thing.
DSC01031.jpg

In this pose, we pretended that Andrew's hat had flown off his head. It was such a cute idea! Too bad Andrew's hand is cut off in the photo.

Oh by the way, I'm not sure who else does this but after every ride where they take photos, we both RAN to the monitors to catch our picture so we could capture it. Does anybody else do this?

After our last ride of the trip, we grabbed a pulled pork sandwich from Fairfax and said a sad goodbye to Hollywood Studios. Farewell Hollywood. You gave us the excitement and adventure we were looking for. Until next time! We ate our sandwich on the empty bus back to Pop.

Back in our, we started packing up so we could spend more time at DtD on our last night in The World. To my surprise, I found $30 tucked away in the safe where I kept our passports! So what do you do when you find extra money at Disney? You spend it! Well, that's the first thing I thought of anyways.

It was dinner time, so the line was VERY long at Earl of Sandwich. All the seats inside were taken, but it was empty outside. Since it was such a beautiful night, we sat outside to eat and people watch. We bought the Italian to share and a coleslaw each. We really love that coleslaw.

DSC01033.jpg

Yeah, as you can see, I forgot to take a picture because digging in. Better late than never right? My verdict? D for DELICIOUS.

Continued in next post.

Chapter 34b. Day 7 pt.3- Last night on the (Down)town

Canadian thumbs up for the coleslaw!
DSC01036.jpg

We went to Basin for the 3rd time that trip and I bought some Calamine soap for the inexplicable rashes I sometimes get on my shoulders. Andrew finally picked up the almond soap he fell in love with on our first visit.

We sauntered through the Arribas store, just to see if there was anything I could get my mom on our next trip. She loves crystal figures and I love Disney, so it's like a present for me too haha.

This guy is so cool. We saw him on Main Street too.
DSC01037.jpg

These are so cute.
DSC01038.jpg

This...is huge. I would be so worried about it if I owned this.
DSC01039.jpg

I adored these.
DSC01040.jpg

Stitch!!! So cute!!!
DSC01041.jpg

This is definitely my favourite one in the store.
DSC01042.jpg

We walked around some more and left at 10pm. Took a bath and finished packing up before hitting the pillow. Saddest night ever. I had to face the fact that I was waking up to LEAVE DISNEY tomorrow.

Oddly, I wasn't as devastated as I thought I would be. I guess that's just how reassuring the idea of knowing I'd come back is.

Coming up next: Last post.

Chapter 35. Day 8- A fitting end to our great adventure

Even though this is our last day and we didn't go to any parks, we still had quite an eventful trip home.

We woke up at the very late hour of 8am. I booked an early afternoon flight so we would have time to "sleep in" and eat before DME comes to pick us up.

For the first time during our whole trip, we ate in the Everything Pop food court! I got the Kids' waffle combo (for the Mickey waffle, duh) and Andrew for the French toast platter. I love that the Kids combo comes with a drink and a snack.
DSC01044.jpg

DSC01046.jpg

Lo it was our last meal in WDW. It was a very somber experience. Man, I'm feeling down just remembering it. Maybe it was because I was in such an unhappy state but I didn't enjoy the waffle that much. Which is such a bummer because it was my first WDW Mickey waffle!

(Sad Story: You see that green Mickey crazy straw? I lost that soon after I came home. I've looked for it everywhere but have accepted that I won't be seeing it again. Can't wait to buy another one or two when I go back!)

DME was supposed to show up at 10:15am, but it showed up half an hour later.... Also, our bus was also the same bus Kelly (Kellybelly777) and her family was on! Our trips had pretty much the exact same dates. It was only after the trip when we both discovered that she saw me and Andrew pass by on our way to our seats. Wow...small world. ALSO, I can't believe we were SO CLOSE AND NEVER MET!!!! Oh cruel fate.

Checking in and customs were a breeze. We also found out our flight was suddenly leaving 25mins earlier. Good thing DME picks us up so early, we didn't have to wait long at the gate.

This brings us back to my first lesson Book all the flights of the same party, under one reservation!. The seating arrangements I made did not go through, so because I made the stupid mistake of booking separately, we were not seated together on both our return flights. It was a sadly uneventful flight to our connection. Not only was I not sitting with Andrew, my mp3 player ran out of power mid-flight.

Our connection was in JFK. Believe it or not, I was really looking forward to our connection here! I watched The Terminal for the first time just a couple of months before our trip and was really eager to see it. Initially, we had an hour till our next flight so we bought a steakhouse sandwich and croissant from Au non pain and sat down to eat and wait it out.
DSC01047.jpg

Then we found out our flight had been delayed 45mins so after we finished our food, we decided to take a stroll over to the main terminal. It was huge over there! Very pretty too. I'm not sure why we didn't take any pictures. It was practically a mall. It had a food court and lots of the stores you would expect in a high end mall.

We made it back to our gate to find out our flight had arrived early! The clerks were actually calling our names but we couldn't tell because they were pronouncing them wrong. After listening carefully, we found out we were the last 2 passengers to board! Oops!

We quickly ran onto the tiny little jet, where they told us they didn't have space for our carry-ons so they needed to store it. There were only 3 seats in a full aisle. Talk about a close call, we almost missed our flight back home!

On another note, we flew over Lake Ontario and I saw Toronto's coastline which I found to be pretty cool and exciting. We landed and actually walked out onto the tarmac where we picked up our carry-ons. Definitely an experience to remember.

We landed right on time and my uncle picked us up. Talk about an adventure to end an adventure!

Coming up next: Concluding musings

Looks like you had a fun last day at Disney, Yuki. Still sad your trip is over.

I had to LOL when you wrote about your name being pronounced wrongly. Same thing happened to us one time and we nearly missed our flight too.
We always have to have our hand luggage stowed underneath the cabin on the connecting flight home from Frankfurt - it is pretty cool to have it handed to you once you get off the plane! ;)

And now that you have a job I think it is time you start planning your next trip! :goodvibes

YOU NEVER FOUND PIXAR PLACE?!!? SO YOU NEVER WENT ON TOY STORY MANIA??!! HOW CAN THIS BE!!!

Yuki. This needs to be the first thing you do on your next trip. You just need to get to Disney and RUN there. Trust me, it's life changing experience, that ride. Honestly, now that it's there, I can't imagine Disney without it. Walk up to the hat, hang a right, go down the steps, make a left and boom... PIXAR PLACE! Oh man, if we do Girls of the DIS I'm pretty sure we're gonna be there like 90% of the time LOL.

LOL your poses on ToT cracked me up!

Well, it was a wonderful trip report Yuki!! Can't wait for your next one. :wizard:

I am SO SORRY everybody for my absence from here!

You all know that I got that job. Well...I was so excited about my first post-school job that I didn't stop to think about what kind of job it was. I think I told you it was commission-only. Well, it turns out I can't do that kind of job. Standing at a table in a different store everyday, asking people for money. It just wasn't right for me.

So, after battling that for a couple of weeks, I left. And have been chasing my paychecks for about 2 weeks now too...A lot has gone on and I'm trying to get a good steady job asap before my parents leave for China for GOOD, because I'll be expected to look after my sibs on my wage.

I'm putting up my last update and saying some last words.

Looks like you had a fun last day at Disney, Yuki. Still sad your trip is over.

I'm really sad my TR is over. I'm thinking of starting my 2013 PTR anyways, even though nothing has been confirmed!

Haha, do they really? I'm glad we weren't the only ones! But then, I'm really used to people getting our names wrong, so I should've seen it coming!

Yeah, it was SO COOL to have our luggage there on the tarmac, waiting for us. The jet was VERY tiny.

I NEVER WENT ON TOY STORY MANIA! It was down the whole week we were there. Like, it went down the day before we got there, and went back up the day after we left. Something was keeping us from going on that ride. I knew about this, so didn't really go looking for Pixar Place. I guess this gives me someplace new to discover on my next trip!

Haha, for sure we're going to be there all the time. I love posing on ToT. It's definitely one of the reasons that make that ride so much fun.

Chapter 36. Lesson number 24

It's that time. The time I've been dreading. The time I've been trying to avoid. It's time to say goodbye (to this TR).

Gosh, I sound like I'm saying goodbye to the DIS! Which is impossible ofcourse, I can't keep away from you guys.

First thing's first, THANK YOU everybody for joining me in my great adventure!!! And more than just that, THANK YOU for being my friends! It would not have been nearly as fun retelling my story without such wonderful people to share it with, so THANK YOU for reading along and for ALL YOUR wonderful comments! You guys are what made my TR so much fun to write. :grouphug:

This trip was ripe with firsts. My first week-long trip with Andrew. My first week-long trip without any of my family members. My first time organizing a trip completely on my own (that's not true, I had help from the DIS). My first time on a WHOLE SLEW of rides. My first time seeing MK's rope drop. My first time being in a Disney parade! My first time staying on Disney property. I could go on, really.

It was also the first time I ever "took it easy" on a trip. I grew up in a commando family lead by my commando mom. Waking up at 7am in the morning every day was expected! For the first time ever, I traveled to a place I KNEW I would be returning to. And that one little knowledge made ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

The grandest lesson and the last one of this TR is Lesson number 24. Don't ever let my desire to do EVERYTHING get in the way of me enjoying myself. As much as I want to do as much as possible and make the most of my trip, I need to remember not to let that stop me from doing nothing at all, if that would make the trip better. I need to remember to give myself time to let loose and at the same time, not plan for it.

Thank you so much my friends for following along through the ups and downs that went on IRL. Thanks for listening to my rants and my tandems and all my mini-TRs.

I'll be back soon with a PTR for August 2013! With no solid plans, it'll truly be a rollercoaster PTR. See you guys there!

Catch y'all later!

Yuki
