Lesson learned. Need more days in Disney!!! Aug 2010 (NEW 1/20-COMPLETE)

We have a Wii and the kids are all over 8 soooo mmmmm!!!

If they're used to playing games where they have to fight scary monsters or have to navigate dark worlds, then this would be appropriate for them. The story in the game as it progresses is pretty sad. But there are plenty of really cute cartoony scenes as you play the game and reveal more of the story.

I mean, the backstory of this game is that Yen Sid, the sorceror from Sorceror Mickey created a world for forgotten things like characters and attractions. It was a dream world where they could live in peace, but Mickey comes by and accidently ruins it.

The world is run by Oswald, Mickey's half brother who is super jealous that Mickey is so popular, so he tries to recreate Mickey's life as his own in this world. Because of what Mickey accidently did, the world Oswald lives in becomes a very dark and gloomy place and Oswald is pretty bitter and angry towards Mickey.

Depending on your actions in the game, Oswald will either befriend you (playing as Mickey), or continue to resent you.

I think there are definitely a lot of things that would need to be explained to a kid while playing this game. I don't recommend kids playing this game by themselves.

Also, this is a one player game. So only one person can be Mickey at anytime. But it's more fun to play with more people around so they can help you catch clues or to navigate the maps.

So cute, Andrew got a grown up game and bought a video game! My DS27 did the same thing when he first moved out and started working full time.

It is a sad day when Mickey is in a gruesome monster movie :sad2: I'm not sure where to get the cartoons. I'm sure you can order them. I have "Steamboat Willie" as my ringtone, though!:thumbsup2

I bought Epic Mickey as a Christmas present, so will have to wait a few more weeks to try it out. Uh oh, I just realized that I don't have any ears :earsboy: to wear while I play it.

Young men and their gaming consoles :confused3

It's not so much gruesome as it is creepy. So very creepy. One of your boss fights is with the Clock face in IASW and it just brings back images of killer clowns....seriously....it's pretty creepy.

Oh wow, steamboat Willie as the ringtone? Awesome! I guess I need to do some more research on the old cartoons.

Oh, they're going to love it! There are so many "insider" bits that only fans would get.

No ears? None at all? From all your trips to WDW, not even one little one???? :scared1:

Yay for the new job! That Queen's degree paid off after all!;)

I'm looking forward to trying out Epic Mickey, Santa is bringing it to Erich for Christmas. ;)

I have more time for the Dis now that classes are over for the semester, just got two exams to worry about! I'm taking advantage of the break and started my new PTR! ;)

May 2011 - Flowers and Star Wars and Harry, oh my!

Thanks for the review. I had also read the review off AllEars. Originally I thought it was going to be another fluffy Mickey game like the one I had for SNES (which was a LONG time ago). It's apparent that Disney has finally stepped up their gaming curve. It sounds like a really interesting game. I like how they've made it so dark. Yes, it's not as child friendly but being an adult and liking Disney, finding something without all the fluff and pixie dust in a video game that sells for $50 is something I can go for. That being said, I still want to get Donkey Kong Country before Epic Mickey only because Donkey Kong Country was a staple game back in the days of SNES.

Howdy from Texas...

Loved your trip report title and started reading, but all the pictures are Xs! What's up? I love seeing other people's pictures!

edit: Nevermind - I think it's my work computer - I'll look at it when I get home!

My boyfriend rented Epic Mickey for me and I got it yesterday in the mail. :) It's pretty cool but I am not a good gamer so I was having trouble with the controls. I was having a hard time making the jumps too lol. I'll give it a couple of more tries but I will wait for my bf to come over so I can watch him cruise through the levels before I return it. I get frustrated easily, especially when it comes to video games I can't play. I hope I can figure this one out because I like it!

Oh honey, I've already subscribed! And actually, the company he's working for really liked Queens students, so yaay!

Yeah, my classes are over too, but I have an exam on monday that I really should be studying for....instead of Dis-ing.....

We got Donkey Kong Country too! It's such a nostalgic game from my childhood. Just watching those bananas float to one side of the screen as you collect them, aaah, memories.

Yeah, I didn't think Epic Mickey would be this dark either. I knew the premise, but the whole place is really grim and the music can get kind of creepy. The only place that is actually colourful is Ostown. At the same time though, there are so many cute and wonderful things to look at and to find. It's just so much fun!

Hey Lisa! :welcome: I just checked my pictures and they look ok, so I hope it's just a computer problem for you. I've posted so many pictures!

I got some when I was 5...don't know where they ended up. They could very well be somewhere in my parents house.

Hahahaha.....a tiny 5 yr old ear hat on Glenn

Yeah, the controls are REAL tricky. And so is the game! Which is why I just watch Andrew play the game. It's like I'm playing it myself, but without the frustration. If you guys get stuck anywhere, I can give you some tips!

Epic Mickey! It's on my christmas list!!! I'm really hoping to get it!

You watching the game reminds me of my son. He loves to have someone watch him play. When he was a kid we kept having to tell him his friends didn't just want to watch, they wanted to play too.

Haha, that's so funny! I love to game, but when it comes to adventure-type games like Epic Mickey, it's just as much fun to watch.

Yuki, I was so excited when I saw your Epic Mickey post. This is a game I've been looking forward to for a year!! I had planned on getting it at launch but decided to save my money at hope I get it for christmas. :rolleyes1 Plus the week before I just spend major moola on a PS3 on black friday. Nice review of the game. Even if I don't get it for Christmas, I'm going to pick it up after. Can't wait to play the game.

Steve read a review of it on Kotaku and he's excited about it too. But he's always been a huge fan of the Kingdom Hearts games. When he got the most recent one for the PSP, I came home from work and he was all excited to tell me about the Cinderella level where you play with Jacque and Gus Gus to get the key to Cinderella. haha.

Gah!!! Yuki! I've been gone for a while.......well a long time. I still have your post card sitting on my desk at work.

I'm glad you had your vacation already! I just went to DL this past July for my 27th birthday. It was great!

I can't wait to read the rest of your TR! I want to go to Niagra Falls someday it's just kind of a far drive.....like yeah I'm on the West Coast over here. I hope if we move to move back to the East Coast and then it might be a little easier to do.

You and Andrew are sooooo cute!

The most exciting thing for me is Taiyou Con here in AZ I can't wait it'll be my first con in like years....

Dina! You made a new account! Did something happen to your old one?

I remember you telling me about your DL trip, I want to hear more!

Oh yes, I should finish that Mini-TR. Niagara Falls is really nice, but for a better view and probably a better time, you need to come over the border. The best time to come is during a weekday.

Oooh, first con in years! You must be so excited!

Yeah, Epic Mickey is highly recommended for seasoned gamers that also like Disney. Maybe it'll get Steve more excited for the trip! Or it may creep him out for it.....We've never played Kingdom Hearts but I've watched a bit of it and it looks fun.

Wow, a PS3! We're trying to convince Andrew's best friend to get one since we got a Wii. We all live about a couple of blocks away from each other so we spend a lot of time gaming together.

Catching up on all that I've missed!

I love all the outfits you have for your Duffy because my DFi got me my early Christmas present - a bear from Build a Bear Workshop! I'm really excited to have "Howie Wary Bear" keep me company during the week when I'm missing DFi. I also am excited because I might be able to get some Duffy costumes for him when we go in February! I actually have that green and white striped hoodie from BABW for my bear!

Ooo, that roped off area with the staircase in Italy looks so pretty! Could probably get some really pretty engagement or wedding photos there!

I love that you went crazy over the Gulden's spicy brown mustard. It is really good, isn't it? If you're in NY delis, they always use brown mustard. They don't give the yellow stuff from the bottles. Good mustards changes everything!

Haha, it's so funny when people think about fortune cookies when they think of Chinese culture. I have to tell them that they were made in California ... haha. I still like them though!

HAHA, I loved the Tom and "soup" thing!!! In 2008 when we spent time exploring the store, my dad was picking out all the Chinese name necklaces and saying that they weren't correct. I can't read Chinese, so I wouldn't know any better!

Those pictures of Andrew eating his sandwich at EoS should be used in an advertisement for the place! Haha, he makes it look so good. The Full Montagu is the one that my DFi also likes, I think. I'm a huge fan of the All American, which is turkey, cheddar cheese, cranberry, ranch, tomato, and lettuce. Perfect combo with that bread, in my opinion!
