Less Rooms or More People?

Something interesting has come up with free dining. In the moderate category all of the room are sold out except the cabins at FW. For the last few days, if I am lucky I can see a RR at POR and once a room at POFQ.

Last year we were lucky enough to get free dining. We had reservations at Pop Century but at the last minute (3 weeks before hand) decided to upgrade to POR. In the time from March to August I was online checking constantly about upgrading because we were wishy washy about it. There was not a time when there wasn't room available at POR, CBR, and CSR although POFQ was always sold out.

This year free dining has been out all of 13 days and the only thing available are the cabins. That got me thinking about whether it is that Disney released fewer rooms or if more people are taking advantage of the offer because it only lasts for a month.

Your thoughts?

It still depends on your dates. That last week is sold out, but I was able to get a room at POFQ for the 13-21....POR and CBR were also available that week.

There were no rooms available at FQ on the first day---I think I got the only one at 7am. Riverside had royal rooms yesterday, they must have sold out. I think that because they are also offering a decent room discount at the same time, that they may have allocated fewer rooms for free dining. If you go in as straight up no discounts all of the moderates have rooms.

You can always stay at POP or another value and just upgrade to regular dining. I think it comes to about $20.00 a day per person which is still a really good deal on dining if the dining plan works for you.

I decided early on that if free dining was not available I would go with the room discount and just pay for our meals. We have a tendency to over eat when we have free dining. We rarely eat dessert with lunch, and I would prefer an appetizer over dessert with dinner. We regularly look for dessert items that can be carried out and eaten later as a snack or saved for breakfast the next morning.

I was just curious as to the cause. We have a pool view room at POFQ and upgraded to deluxe dining.

So I'm not missing out on a room, just interested in the differences between this year and last.
