less expensive "mineral" makeup

Has anyone tried brands of "mineral" makeup that is not one of those expensive ones? In the CVS sale flyer for this week both the Loreal and Milani brands are featured. I would like to try the mineral stuff, but don't want to spend a lot of money until I try it out. Also, a friend of mine said she thinks that CVS has one of those love it or bring it back makeup policies. You know, if you buy something and it is just wrong you can bring it back and get your money back? Has anyone done that or is she thinking about another place, like Walgreens or Rite Aid? I never get the right shade on the first try.

I know there are people that swear by Bare Minerals, and I totally respect that (when I find a makeup I like, I worship at the alter), but I tried Everyday Minerals awhile back when there was a link here and I love it! The best thing (and the thing that hooked me) is that you can get up to 2 free sample kits. You only have to pay the shipping, which is less than $5 (I can't remember how much exactly). Their prices are reasonable and shipping is really fast. The website is www.everydayminerals.com.

I do know that Avon has a new one that is coming out. I haven't tried it yet but I think I will. I think it is 8.00 and they have that mineral veil and warmth also. I love that you can send Avon back if you don't like it so no money wasted

I really wanted to try it out so one of the sales reps that worked there did a make over on me! I never looked so made up! I thought this stuff was suppose to look natural? The sales lady told me to walk around the mall for a while and let my natural oils blend with it! What??? I couldnt wait to get home and wash my face. My cleansing clothes were so caked with that make up, I swear I wouldnt wear it if you payed me to. Iam going to stick with Aveda.. . The cheaper ones probably work just as well..

I wore BE for a long time before running out once about a year ago. Since I can't get it local I went to Target and bought the physicians formula stuff that is like BE. I haven't bought BE for foundation since! It's about $9 and lasts about two times longer.

That was my experience with Bare Minerals. The color that the Ulta saleswoman put on me was all wrong. I've found that the best way to put on the mineral makeup is right after I put on moisturizer, before my skin has totally absorbed it and then my skin looks flawless and smooth, otherwise, it accentuates any lines in my face. People have commented on how pretty my skin is even without makeup...if only they saw me first thing in the morning!

I sell it ordered one as a demo, made the mistake of ordering too dark a shade...think you're better off going with as close to your skin tone or even a shade lighter.

I was thinking you could use it as a bronzer powder - nope!

Rather messy with all that tapping off of extra powder too

I have a sample kit from Everyday Minerals. I don't wear makeup often but this works nicely for me. I have hypersensitive skin and rosacea, so a lot of products irritate my skin. This doesn't. It takes some practice to get it to look right, though!

I've been using the L'oreal version since it came out. Actually, I just bought some more two days ago at Target -- it was $12.54. I did notice that almost every brand they carried was now offering a mineral version. I, picked another brand up, and put it back -- why try something else when the L'oreal is working great. It does not break my face out. It seems to me that it lasts a very long time -- the last time I bought some was in November -- so that's about 5 months.


I wanted to add that L'oreal has the match system -- you pull a card out over your wrist -- the shade that disappears is the shade you get--- very easy -- and it works!

I use the Loreal version. It lasts forever and gives good coverage. I like it b/c unlike liquid foundation I don't feel so "made up" and it just feels cleaner. As a disclaimer I am 23 and have no major skin issues, so I can't speak to how well it would work if you have problem skin. That being said when I do get a break out it does well evening out the color.

Well- - I'm not 23 (won't say how old I am) and I can say this that the L'Oreal does not break my face out --- I can't say which worked to cure a case of adult onset post-pregnancy acne- - the L'Oreal or taking 1000 mg Vitamin C a day -- but one of them worked. I really think the sheerer coverage helps against promoting break outs. As an older person with dark circles (heredity), it does a good job of covering.

I agree that it "feels cleaner." I love it.

This has been a very helpful thread for me, as I have also been wanting to try the mineral makeup. I went straight to everydayminerals.com and ordered a free sample kit. It cost only 3.67 for shipping. It was hard picking the foundation colors, but I think I did okay. Thanks for the info!
