Lense used most at WDW

I was wondering if anyone has a favorite lens they use at Disney. We are getting a new SLR before our trip and I want to make sure I have a lens that will be suitable for Disney. (Note we do not have kids just me and DH right now, kids will come later)

Have a great day!

The lens I used most of the time I was there last was my Tamron 17-50mm F2.8. I also used a 50mm F1.8 for dark rides and Spectromagic, as well as a 55-250 mainly at animal kindom on the Safari.

The lens that seems to stay on my camera the most when I go is my Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens (but it is heavy as lead and isn't very comfortable to wear around your neck all day). And a wide angle lens will definitely come in handy at WDW (I think more so than a telephoto lens).

I would agree with the above comment about wide lens being handier. I think I use the 18-55 IS kit as much as any lens I have, with the exception of the Safari at AK and maybe a show at DS, but for that, you'd need a pretty fast zoom, last year I rented a 70-200 IS 2.8L for those shows. And my 50 1.8 for some of the rides.

Ditto on the wide-angle...it comes in so much more handy than you even think of. As someone who frequents the parks very often each year, I took photos for years with advanced P&S models that were usually around 36mm equivelent at the widest. Though I had great fun and took tens of thousands of photos, only the purchase of a DSLR and access to a wider lens has made me realize how many photos I couldn't take before. With an 18mm wide end (1.5x sensor crop = 27mm), I can now shoot entire building facades, whereas before I could back up right to the wall or fence and still couldn't squeeze the buildings in.

If you can afford it, I heartily recommend an all-purpose wide to tele zoom. The convenience of not having to change lenses for virtually any photographic situation is hard to beat. I predominantly use an 18-250mm zoom, which gives me wide angle to super-tele in one small package, and I can shoot wildlife at AK to wide scenes at HS, action shots to night shots...all with one lens.

I still bring other lenses along, and use them on occasion in the parks - my 50mm F1.7 gets used for low light photography and ride photography sometimes - but generally the 18-250 is the perfect Disney lens, and gets used 98% of the time.

My 18-200 probably stays on the camera the most. Next would now be the 10.5 then the 70-200 when I am feeling strong or going to AK. It is a bear to carry around but it is an amazing lens. I also know I can beat off anyone that wants to take me on!!! LOL. It is interesting the attention I attract with that lens. It has the same outward focal length at the 18-200 but because of the size, I get many comments on it. It is funny to me that I do. Then would come the 50 1.8. Particularly when it is great flower season, I also take the 60 mm macro just because.

I guess the bottom line is to have what you need when you need it?!

Thank you all so much! We purchased the Nikon D90 yesterday with 2 Kit lenses. the18-105mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR and the 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G IF-ED which is also VR.

We spent a good amount of time last night getting acquainted with our new camera. We not have 19 days to get even closer before our vacation! We plan to take it out this weekend and really have some fun!

Congrats! You're doing the right thing by getting familiar with it before your trip. Have fun!

You did good! The 18-105 will be a great walk-around lens for WDW. Remember to take your manual with you! A few years ago, I had purchased my D80 a few weeks before we went to WDW. While I was waiting for shows or parades to start, I would look over the manual to be sure I had all my settings the way I wanted them for that show or parade.

Canon 24 70 2.8 L is my standard lens, However I can't wait to see what I can do with my new 15mm Fisheye on an upcoming trip!

I'm a prime guy who quite often is limited to 1-handed operation (while holding a child in the other). I've had great success with just a 24mm f2.8 prime.

Very rarely I'd pull out my kit lens when I needed wide angle (18mm).
